Dedryck strolls past England

1089

Hot on the heels of a former Celtic player becoming the most expensive defender in transfer history, we watched Dedryck Boyata stroll through Belgium’s win against England last night.  I would be more animated on this subject if he was secured on a five year contract, but as he his current deal only has one year to go, such a high profile performance could reduce our options for the player.

How many of you thought we would be in this situation after the Ibrox game in March?  That day Brendan Rodgers said there was better to come from Dedryck.  He is still not the finished article, but he’s a key cog in a team who fancy their chances in Russia.

Stiliyan Petrov match worn Champions League shirt raffle

We have a very special raffle, which ends this afternoon! The shirt Stiliyan Petrov wore in Celtic’s 0-0 draw with Bayern Munich during our 2003 Champions League campaign is available. You can buy a ticket for £1 here on ebay.  Stan signed the shirt.

All proceeds go to the Stiliyan Petrov Foundation to aid research into leukaemia and cancer treatments.  Stiliyan’s recover from leukaemia shows us just how far treatments have come, but as our own CQN community knows too well, more progress is needed.  The draw will be made at Woodside Hotel, Aberdour, where the 14th annual CQN Open Golf Day is now underway.

Hope to see you later.

John51…Stuart Armstrong, that’s who! Yes, Brendan knew he was on his way and if you are suggesting Lewis Morgan will play the SA role, you may well be right. Two footed, likes to run at defenders, can score and, importantly, he has a level of confidence that appears to fall short of cockiness, just sincere belief in his own ability…I like that in a player….regards

    Great post.

Ps : Was talking to a family of ” ordinary ” Americans yesterday, and they were celebrating how many guns they owned. Yes Scotland has problems and we could do better, but this topic of conversation is alien to Scots and rightly so. Our problems pale into insignificance compared to this.

Nightmare scenario: Argentina 4-0 Croatia World Cup Final.

Talked to some Argentinians yesterday. This is their dream.

Why? because they cant take a beating. Bad losers. Cultural bigots and if their superb skills and street guile cant beat you they can always kick yer heed in if it comes to it.

The restore to another point didny work, I eventually managed to delete a heap of stuff and so far so good, my problem with restoring to the factory settings was that the disc driver wisny working so the computer couldn’t read the disc to restore it, for all I use the fecking thing for I am lothe to buy another one, but it’s nine now so maybes I should, never had a virus that when you close something it wouldn’t open again, a new one on me, couldn’t find it either.

Croatia for me, the Mrs reckons Belgium, as long as it’s no the brits, Brasil or Argentina I really arny bothered.

Celtic top priority is to get Boyata on a long term deal.. the vultures will be all over him after his World Cup displays.. if John Stones is 50m then Boyata is in same bracket. Celtic should be in his his hotel room Now with a contract offer ! #gettorussia

  14. Mahe, read your last post with interest.. I was recently in your native Belfast for the first time and, despite the undoubted and welcome societal change there, I felt an ever-present tension in the air. As a native Glaswegian, although now living in Dundee, I do not detect a similar feeling in Scotland nowadays, whilst readily acknowledging that it was prevalent in the 60s and 70s during my formative years. That is not to say that it has disappeared entirely, and there are certainly entrenched vestiges in some quarters. My view is that even those are on their last legs. HH

  15. DD, France for me (haven’t got going yet), but Croatia have looked good. See you tomorrow. HH

Heard last season that Boyata’s agent blanked requests to meet and discuss a new deal, we can’t do much more, offer a deal or sell him to the highest bidder.

I like Lewis Morgan’s whole demanour..as you say confidence just shy of cockiness..but he interviews well, seems really focused and has the look of a young guy who knows that he has just been handed the chance of a lifetime and will NOT waste it.

Scotland ??? I love where I live and I would say I am a proud Scot… there are bigots, racists and idiots in every country in the world so gie ma head piece :-)

If I win the lottery tomorrow would I leave Scotland … ffs I wouldn’t even leave Coatbrig

As for football/sport it’s as bent as a ten bob note at many levels, am happy for Celtic to keep being Celtic and as for that big dedryck, many fans/people bring up the 2-3 game when “10 men won the league” Brendan put Boyata in from the start for his first game in weeks/months he did mess up after a minute or two but then went on to help 10 men win the league 7 n counting

Like many others a bit gutted SA has gone to pastures new and I wish the bhoy all the best I have always said if the player wants to go … there’s the door

Lewis Morgan ? Never saw the bhoy but seemingly he caught Brendan’s eye when Jack Ross’s team gave us a game in the league cup ? If (& a big if) Lewis comes in and notches s few goals and fits into the team who knows it could be £7m in the bank and a young player who by all accounts is confident about getting a starting jersey…. I wish Lewis all the very best as well

  24. Things have worked out perfectly for Boyata’s agent. They stalled on the contract offer and by chance Dedryk got his opportunity at the WC due to injuries. Now the pound signs are in the agents eyes as he will be hawking his player to all EPL Clubs and beyond. He wont be short of offers now and as such will be offski as we will definitely cash in with one one year left on the current contract.

    Friesdorfer,

    Thanks for the reply .

Although I havent lived there for many years now there has been great strides made.

I do find it strange you say you felt an atmosphere,,,I guess it depends where you are I suppose but I believe it tends to be younger ones hit downtown and older ones hit their locals.

I really dont want to denigrate Scotland and it will win me few friends on the blog but I simply call it as I see it,

The last bastion of sectarianism where the lodges rule and theres an entrenched mindset among the majority of the population that Timmy is second class.

Being one who has moved about and lived in a few different countries its hard to accept it still goes on in this day and age.

And it seems things will not be improving actually despite the fact we have never been soo affluent or educated or worldwide.

Many on here are proud to be Scottish and there I have zero problem at all nor could I but I would simply ask when is enough enough? Just going with it and keeping yourself to yourself wont help.

If its not getting better then its getting worse and I dont see anyone standing up to try to stop it.

Perhaps a blog that does not focus solely on football but also on the current events impacting those who support that football club would help.

Ideally this blog or another would lead the way in at least bringing to everyones attention who your mp is and how they have failed you,,,what lies they told and how you simply must vote them out,,and ideally the blog promote or give a platform to those who would replace them ,,,and maybe would get some answers from the prospective replacements about how they would ensure your rights are upheld and what changes they promise.

And then monitor them to keep pressure on so ideally they will live upto those promises they made.

Or promote one of our own as a candidate should anyone wish it and give them the platform to campaign on also.

Funny how people can experience things so differently ….

I get back to Glasgow about every 2 or 3 years …. until last September, I hadn’t been back to Belfast since I was a kid, and I dont remember going to Dublin (although apparently I did when I was young)…

I was impressed at how vibrant Dublin was …. and even more pleasantly surprised at how nice Belfast was … but, everytime I visit Glasgow, I get a bit sad at how downtrodden and angry the place seems … I would put that down not to the religious issues, but to the economic issues .. (which, I think, give rise to the religious issues)….

I know that when Liam was in Glasgow a few years ago with me, he, too, that there is an anger and an edge to the place ….

Not saying that I am right … just saying that was my experience ….
