Don’t book travel to Edinburgh, lobby for league merger

807

If you are missing your competitive football fix you’ll have devoured the fixture list this morning but it’s still over seven weeks until the first league game of the season, when the league flag will fly before we face Ross County (we will have played a Champions League qualifier five weeks from today).

Thereafter, due to the postponement of a home game to allow for a financially lucrative friendly, Celtic are on the road six times in nine league fixtures, so if our away form is anything like it was for much of last season, it’s likely we will be in the mix, instead of clear leaders, come the end of October.

After an absence of some time, Celtic have a local derby to look forward to.  They meet Partick Thistle at Firhill on 26th October with the return game at Celtic Park set for New Year’s Day.  We are scheduled for two trips to the Capital within a month but don’t go booking your flights for the Hearts game in September, just in case…..

Curious news today that Celtic director and BT chief executive, Ian Livingston, will leave the telecoms company after five years at the top to become Minister for Trade and Investment in the coalition government.  Livingston will serve from the House of Lords.  How about boosting the ailing Scottish football industry by lobbying for a merger with a neighbouring league?

Have you bought a ticket for Firday night’s Lions Roar event?  Join hundreds of Celtic fans and the Lisbon Lions to watch the Lisbon game and for a Q&A afterwards.

    approx. £150,000

We have recently completed a survey of the all of the stand roofs at Ibrox and the results were not positive. As a result of many years of limited expenditure the roofs are now in a dilapidated state and in places have become unsafe to the point that contractors have indicated they may not be safe enough to continue working on. This was notified to the Exec Directors on 9 May (mail attached) and again included in the CAPEX list sent last month. Update

the roofs will clearly not get any better but continue to deteriorate

in the Broomloan (family) section feedback the “dirty” state of the roofs was noted and when asked if we could clean it we had to point out that you can’t clean rust!

  5. good morning my favourite people in celtic. , I must admit that the reaction of my post on fathers day was wonderful if not inspiring and it really means so much to me and for that I give you all a major group hug (huddle ) the testimonial I gave to my dad was inspired by a wee emotional me because to do the same for my old mum I feel would be playing to the crowd, i think I can leave that to mothers day if you get my drift? however I will give you one more eulogy of the most wonderful wee creature that in my humble opinion god saw fit to gift to me . After my motorbike accident in may 1981(Honda on a free..not for me) I had to undergo a further op in the December of that year I was discharged from Edinburgh royal the day before my 21st birthday my parents(who were both tea total )were informed that I could now drink in moderation, home I went in the knowledge that in six months the procedure that I had just endured would be happening again my walking was aided by a tripod ( the zimmer had been binned) and my broken wrist had healed ..dad asks”whit wid ye like fur yer 21st son”my answer (because in my seven month convalescence I had read up on them) “a boaxer dug” now as you are not aware my fathers all Christian and catholic attitudes to his fellow man, were exactly that he had no time for animals so to cries of there will be no animals in this hoose (I know and it wiz a wee hoose anywie) he went off to work . my birthday consisted of a few cards and visitors (bearing in mind my skull was opened from hairline to behind my ear.with stitches still in place) mum kept the visitors fed and watered and I thanked them for their good wishes and gifts (but internally felt like they were visiting a freak show)dad came back from work with a big,big bag we had dinner cake and candles songs, neighbours then the gifts pens watches gift sets etc then mum &dad give me their gift the bag contained the doggies danglers of a sheep skin coat all the big stars had one it was the football managers uniform the big collers were like eiderdown my memory now is a wee bit hazey but it went along the lines of ….”wheres ma dug,? ah don’t want this ahm no malcom Allison ah want a boaxer” next day dear old mum consoles me dad had spent a fortune nada nada nada the next week with Christmas fast approaching dad “whit are you wantin fur yer Christmas?” and me thinking Carlsberg don’t do petulance, but Charlie does.. ” ah still want a dug” dad god love him( and as I later found out was getting it in the ear from the whole world and they’re dugs ) says” son you are going to have at least one more brain op you walk with a tripod and its snowing how are you going to manage with a powerful boxer?” my answer to that I must be honest to this day gives me great shame my rant would have put j mac enroe to shame but bear in mind I was brain injured dad went off to test eyes and I played really shakey videos(remembering this is 1981 the remote was on a cord and this was top of the range £500 + ) at his lunch he phoned home relenting ,I could get ma dug……mother and I phoned everywhere naebody hid a boaxer dug I was going into panic mode(whit a big Jessie) mothers sayin well we can get it after Christmas….naw he(daddy)will change his mind its now or never every phone book paper etc no dug to be had next day(Christmas eve) the whole of Scotland is in whiteout i’m working on my dad…you’re not even going to consider changing your mind if I don’t get this dog for Christmas dad ..are you? well son you know a dogs not just for Christmas….what did that mean ? I was distraught (what it really meant was ,he was taking the p*ss) there was no internet then but I think directory enquiries was free so we called nationwide still no joy ..lunchtime came and dad mentions that he’ll be reading at midnight mass and that the pp wanted me to do the offertory (aye right wi a tripod,) the phone rings ,mother answers(out in the hall….off subject ,why did people have the phone in the freezing hall in those days?) she comes back to say someboadys goat a dug!!!!!!!!!!!! me and dad headed for strathaven from Stirlingshire in a whiteout arrives god knows how no mobiles or satnav in his wee allegro(remember them? horrible motors) out to a wee hut in a snow covered field the guy takes my dad aside (money talk) and I see my tiny, tiny wee brindle boxer for the first time she was shivering nerves or cold i’ll never know I picked her up kissed her and put her into my breast pocket(aye she was that wee) home to banknock as pleased as punch mum says” well where is it?” and as I bring her out of my breast pocket she pisses all over me.. she gets all the love and attention that you can imagine dad tells me that she is the runt of the litter and that she is only six weeks old but me well i’m all loved up we place towels round her as barriers right in front of the fire and head out to midnight mass I declined doing the offertory (just in case , imagine I fell doing it?) the priest mentioned the power of prayer with regards to the readers son (? he was a weird priest….he had a wig!!!) but the mass dragged I wanted ma dug back home into the warm hoose…..nae dug … where the …it didn,t take us long her wee bum was stickin oot fae all the other presents under the Christmas tree awwww Judy and I where inseperable we had great times and a wonderful bond I was walking unaided within months and she attended the hollandbushs (local)regularly as after a further three ops I got back to work she watched over my four kids as they grew up and even had the distinction of being called the mad fenien dug when she blue her top at the O.O in larkhall ( her brindle markings were”hooped” ) in her last day she wanderd at blochairn car boot sale the p a announced “could the owner of an old funny coloured boxer dog come to the office blah blah she wasn’t funny coloured she was 16 and grey…….mans best friend your dam right judy pup ..I salute you hh x

  7. TOM BOYD last night told Southampton to get real over Victor Wanyama.

SunSport exclusively revealed yesterday that the English side are in talks with Celtic over a potential £10million swoop for the highly-rated midfielder.

But Boyd insists the Kenyan is worth more than DOUBLE that as the Hoops brace themselves for a bidding war over their prized asset.

Celts legend Boyd still hasn’t given up hope of seeing Wanyama in the green and white next season — but he also knows that every player has their price.

He said: “I don’t think £10m would be enough for Victor Wanyama. I’d certainly be hoping for a lot more than that.

“Victor and Gary Hooper are the two I’d like to see stay, but Gary’s different in that he’s coming into the last year of his contract and there’s a risk he’ll leave for nothing at the end of that.

“Wanyama still has two years left on his contract. Neil Lennon said he wanted £25m for him and I’d go along with that. Why not? If the bidding is to start at £10m then there’s a lot of room for it to go up.”

While Lennon would undoubtedly agree with his former team-mate, chief executive Peter Lawwell may think differently.

A return to the Champions League would boost the coffers.

Lawwell still has to balance the books in an age where there’s simply no spare cash swilling about in Scottish football.

Boyd admitted: “Unfortunately the reality is that it would be hard to turn down bids like that, unless you make the Champions League every single year.

“You could do that, because the money you make for that would compensate for the transfer money you’d turn down.

“If that doesn’t happen, in the unfortunate position we’re in with Scottish football, we don’t have the billions that’s come into English football that allows for a sustainable business model.

“You’d have to look at these bids. That would be a reason to sell.”

Boyd played at the highest level for club and country so he find it hard to comprehend why players would consider giving up another crack at Europe’s elite for a relegation dogfight with the likes of Southampton.

Gary Hooper has also been linked with Hull City and — at an even lower level — Championship outfit Reading.

Boyd said: “There’s no comparison between the clubs. The Champions League is far, far better than the English Premier League.

“You get a lot of decent games in there, whereas I watched a lot of Premier League game last year and even the top teams in that were pretty poor.

“Financially the players would obviously get a massive boost, especially with the added income that’s come from the latest TV deal from this season and that might see the transfer fees and wages increase.

“That’s hard to compete with but in terms of playing for a massive club like Celtic, playing on the biggest stage in the Champions League — the best competition in football — there’s no contest.

“Celtic competed last year with some of the best. That’s a massive thing that you can’t take away from the club or the players.

“Hopefully that’s an attraction for the players to stay.

“All the big players will be staying here for the qualifiers. I’m sure of that. I’d be shocked if any of them were to leave before the final qualifier.

“Some might leave but hopefully making the Champions League will be the catalyst to keep some of these boys.”

Nowadays it’s the players who hold the power but Boyd doesn’t see any of the big hitters in the Celtic Park dressing room throwing the toys out of the pram like Luis Suarez at Liverpool and demanding a move in the short-term.

He said: “Gary Hooper’s the one exception given his contract is running down, but the rest are obviously still under contract.

“There will be a lot decided by the final Champions League qualifier, whether some stay or go.

“Hopefully Celtic make the Champions League and they’re all still here to enhance these big nights at Celtic Park.”

This article could have been written by CQN Tom Boyd your a star

TOM BOYD was speaking after the presentation of a cheque for £7000 on behalf of the Celtic FC Foundation to the Glasgow Taxis Outing Fund for Sick Children, taking the club’s contribution to the cause to well over £100,000.

The papers in Holland saying the deal for Van Dijk will be completed today.

The deal is done apparently. Fee in the region of 2.5m. Few very minor things to be agreed between clubs. Player accepted contract.

    Hi,

To me it just shows the dilema P.Lawwell has got, does he sell, and bank the money,or keep the high value players, and hope we qualify, Who would be ceo.

  10. Lilys granpa

The sides hoping to buy Hoops won’t be playing in europe so Celtic can keep any offers on the table. Qualify and offer hooper the Cl and improved contract or fail and sell thus clawing back drop in income..

It is a very difficult job, players and their agents don’t have Celtic at first place in their priorities

Supporters put players on a pedestal that for some of them is completely unjustified

Between PL and Neil i trust the correct call can be made on for example if Hooper whilst waiting for his transfer in August would give his ALL for Celtic in C/L,
