Don’t book travel to Edinburgh, lobby for league merger

807

If you are missing your competitive football fix you’ll have devoured the fixture list this morning but it’s still over seven weeks until the first league game of the season, when the league flag will fly before we face Ross County (we will have played a Champions League qualifier five weeks from today).

Thereafter, due to the postponement of a home game to allow for a financially lucrative friendly, Celtic are on the road six times in nine league fixtures, so if our away form is anything like it was for much of last season, it’s likely we will be in the mix, instead of clear leaders, come the end of October.

After an absence of some time, Celtic have a local derby to look forward to.  They meet Partick Thistle at Firhill on 26th October with the return game at Celtic Park set for New Year’s Day.  We are scheduled for two trips to the Capital within a month but don’t go booking your flights for the Hearts game in September, just in case…..

Curious news today that Celtic director and BT chief executive, Ian Livingston, will leave the telecoms company after five years at the top to become Minister for Trade and Investment in the coalition government.  Livingston will serve from the House of Lords.  How about boosting the ailing Scottish football industry by lobbying for a merger with a neighbouring league?

Have you bought a ticket for Firday night’s Lions Roar event?  Join hundreds of Celtic fans and the Lisbon Lions to watch the Lisbon game and for a Q&A afterwards.

The ever reliable rags have him flying in for signing talks today.

  2. Morning CQN’ers,

While we can all justifiably debate all things football in the close season, let us reflect on our parallel achievments.

The club is run on a sound financial and moral basis. In times of austerity and a problematic Scottish system this is a clearly a fantastic result. The board and all connected with the Celtic family should take pride in this. Some contencious and sometimes unpopular decisions have been taken and this will continue to be the case.

Yesterday the Celtic FC foundation gave another £7.000 to the Glasgow Taxies outing fund for sick children. This is not a one off and over the years the clubs contribution to the cause has been well over £100.000.

The celtic family’s continued support for this cause and many other equally deserving causes should warrent immense satisfaction and pride.

For 125 years :This is who we are; This is what we are about. This is belonging.

    More than a football club.

    HH, Always in Celtic.

  3. Any player who isn’t signed up & committed to the club for the coming season should not play. If Hooper wants to leave then let him go for best price we can get. If that doesn’t happen before CL qualifiers begin he should be left out of team. A player who knows they are going won’t be fully committed and will have their minds on any impending moves.

Agree with what you say, except, I honestly can’t see us getting near 25m, not to say he’s not worth every penny, but I really can’t see it, I think our best bet would be selling ,and have sell on clauses. BTW you based in Salford?

Very sad news re James Gandolfini, especially the fact that he has left behind a 9 month-old child. RIP big man.

It will be a sore one for his Sopranos co-star Steve Van Zandt, who is currently touring with Bruce Springsteen.

  7. The big Dutch CH seems to be getting a lot of bigging-up on Celtic cyberspace so

going by that – I hope the big fella tics the box.

As for Gary Hooper – some folk on here and elsewhere saying that he would be easily replaced blah, blah etc….I don’t think that GH gets the amount of scoring chances that a Celtic striker should. imo

What I’ve yet to hear from any Cellic fan is – “…ah, did ye see awe they chances that GH missed ?” THAT’S the poingt – not enough chances getting made. imo

In Neil’s 1st season – Izzy was fantastic and created an astonishing amount of chances.

What a miss Izzy has been. imo

I think the Cellic team the noo – play with more fluency when – Broony and Forrest are in the team. Kris Commons seems to come into his own when those 2 are in the team. imo

The big Dutch bhoy will, by the vibes on Cellic cyberspace anyway – be a guid yin.

But….who will drop oot to accomodate him ? :)

Big Balde has got the feathers flying so far – ghood !!!

For what it’s worth, I agree with Kev’s viewpoints as they fairly accurately reflect my own. (except that guff he posted about Kevin Thomson. That’s when I realised he smoked something other than John Players)

you make a really good point about Gary Hooper not missing many chances .

Can’t think of a game when we were all saying ,if only hoops had stuck that chance away.

However plenty times the debate has been how he didn’t turn up .

I like him but he is frustrating. Good luck to him but like others have said these years with us will be his best

  19. twists n turns on

Gary Hooper has been good for the hoops, and make no mistake, the hoops have been good for Gary Hooper. It’s Scotland, it’s the SPL, so…..buy em low, sell em high.

If what comes in between is championship wins, cup wins, goals aplenty and progress in Europe, then who can complain?

  20. It ain’t half hot,

thanks but it seems even the estimable Bert K doesn’t know.

Thinks they divvy into North, Central and South but rules are not publicised.

    We shall see…

  21. If the msm are to be believed ( I know, I know ) that Big Vic is close to signing for Southampton what does that say for the bhoy’s ambition.

Jeezo it’s like moving to a fishing town to play for the local team when you compare playing at Celtic Park. I know the money is a big thing to these guys but ffs surely some pride as a footballer has to come into their thinking.

Same goes with Hooper, if that is the level that they will except get shot of them and take the cash Celtic. Seriously disillusioned with the ambition of these players if these stories are true.

    mighty tim

I made a point earlier re agents, and that move, if true, would suit his agent, especially if he moved on later to, an Arsenal say. They would be paying Southampton double what they would pay us, Win Win, for the agent!

    HH

  24. Our players only have to look at Henrik.

Stay with us improve every year, make loads of money become a legend then leave and become a legend elsewhere making even more money .

    or

Leave now and make lots of money and do reasonably well like Stan ,Aiden or Shaun or heid , ok maybe not like heid?

  25. So, apparently some Rangers fans see complaints against the BBC as part of a loyalist propaganda war…

Oh no the gummy bears are on the war path sorry the vanguard bears.

  26. I stress I’m not trying to be funny or snide here but, I appreciate the difficulty that, PL and the bored have got in trying to get players come here – especially now with the threat of some more clubs falling off the wall – I mean, for Celtic to have to qualify for the CL is a joke for a start but, if we do get there – that, in it’s self is a major achievement and, I’m going to say right here – right now that, I think if we get to the CL group stages – I hope we finish 3rd !

I say that because – we’re not ready for the KO-phase of the CL and I think we would get the benefit of a run in the Europa League. imo

    Only saying

I know mate it just grinds me that they are willing to take the chance that an even bigger deal will come along. If you are in their position what is gonna show your skills of to the big Euro teams, playing for Southampton, Reading, Hull etc or playing for The Hoops in the CL.

Hate the EPL and its mediocrity it is only about the money.

On the subject of money I need to go ” off oot” KevJ style to the dentist. Thought last week was last visit apparently another 2 visits, these guys really know how to lighten yer wallet.
