Don’t book travel to Edinburgh, lobby for league merger

807

If you are missing your competitive football fix you’ll have devoured the fixture list this morning but it’s still over seven weeks until the first league game of the season, when the league flag will fly before we face Ross County (we will have played a Champions League qualifier five weeks from today).

Thereafter, due to the postponement of a home game to allow for a financially lucrative friendly, Celtic are on the road six times in nine league fixtures, so if our away form is anything like it was for much of last season, it’s likely we will be in the mix, instead of clear leaders, come the end of October.

After an absence of some time, Celtic have a local derby to look forward to.  They meet Partick Thistle at Firhill on 26th October with the return game at Celtic Park set for New Year’s Day.  We are scheduled for two trips to the Capital within a month but don’t go booking your flights for the Hearts game in September, just in case…..

Curious news today that Celtic director and BT chief executive, Ian Livingston, will leave the telecoms company after five years at the top to become Minister for Trade and Investment in the coalition government.  Livingston will serve from the House of Lords.  How about boosting the ailing Scottish football industry by lobbying for a merger with a neighbouring league?

Have you bought a ticket for Firday night’s Lions Roar event?  Join hundreds of Celtic fans and the Lisbon Lions to watch the Lisbon game and for a Q&A afterwards.

  3. Regarding great players, Pirlo, at time peerless. Not in the elite though.

You should have seen me at the 5’s last week!

The Buffon tackle, not a penalty according to the experts! BBJ being one.

He agrees with me though BTW, if the ref gives a pen. Buffon should be off.

Good to see us gettings bhoys in now, vital to have them in for pre season.

    +++++++

Or, according to the media house directed MSM, we’re panic buying in order to replace the players we’re selling!

  6. Watched game earlier – just saw replay and have to admit set-up by Nemayar for 2nd goal was class.

  7. Sipsini, he was a no bad keeper, never great, but an absolute plum of a man/human being.

Polite company restrains my comments on the flying pig.

Watching Savage and BBJ arguing on football is great, different opinions, passion, but mates and banter.

Before I turn in, I’ll add Boniek Blokhin and Prosinecki to the list.

    Nite all.

  9. Bara, Hristo Stoichkov is the player I meant, the man who told Stan to go play in a bigger league, but was a wonderful talent. Played for Barca. The main reason I watched Barca in the 90’s when I could. Great in the 90 and 94 world cups.

  10. Absolutely love Messi. He will go on to be crowned the best ever no dought. Diego Armando Maradona was quite simply unplayable. There is a free kick he scored for Napoli against Juve, best I have ever seen. Get in YouTube and check it out. 13 yards out he gets it over the wall and in to top corner. Nothing out of the ordinary you might think, but check the run up, there wasn’t one. He just flicked it. Amazing. Some if the stuff he produced in Naples was mind blowing. Think Napoli won the Scudetto twice and UEFA cup during his time there. The goal against Belgium in 86 was outstanding. Remember also he played in a time where defenders could kick 8 different colours out of you before getting a final warning. Can’t help but think what he could do now with the advancement in the game from rules to equipment. Obviously his off field life over shadowed his career but the man was a genius.

Can’t have Ecuador for WC – their admittedly impressive qualification campaign heavily based on a 6-1-0 home record with matches being played at altitude. They have only two points from 5 aways.

Unless altitude a factor next summer – which I doubt – I couldn’t have them

Re goalkeepers – Artur Boruc made three sensational saves in 5 mins in euro 2008 against joint hosts Austria including an outstanding 1 on 1. Asset management in hindsight would have been to take the 8-figure sums allegedly bandied about at the time

    Played in the Reserves.

We all travelled by buses to Balornock, Possil etc on our own. No teacher, no janny.

We were just 10 years old.

My name was pulled out of the sack for one of the two tickets issued to every Glasgow school for the Boys Gate at the Scotland V England game at Hampden, April 1962.

Got the bus from Castlemilk with the other winner Harry Teague to the game and came back on my own.

I was eleven by then and the attendance was 135,000.

    Maradona was a special individual.

That sort of make my point about Pele.

A team player in a team game.

And the goal in the WCF against Sweden at 17, showed individual quality.
