There will be no mention of ‘Drama Queens’ from me, but those who were uncontrollably distressed by ‘defeats’ in meaningless friendlies will no doubt be delighted to lean a Celtic team largely staffed by undergraduates got the better of Brentford yesterday. The rest of us remain unmoved, although I was pleased Amido Balde received some encouragement.
As many of you will know, the LostBhoys have been broadcasting podcasts covering Celtic’s history in recent months. It has been an incredibly professional, informative and entertaining look at our club through the years. This weekend they broadcast a decade I helped them cover, 1950-1960.
It encapsulated a seminal period for Celtic. When the SFA ruled the club would face suspension if they continued to fly the Irish flag, we could have gone out of business, or forever been robbed of our heritage. The decade saw many of the great names in our history at Celtic Park: McGrory, Tully, Stein, Fallon, McNeill, Chalmers, Auld, Gribben and Hogan, as well as the ever-influential, Sir Robert Kelly, but to those at the time it looked like we were heading nowhere. Celtic lost more games in the 50s than in any other decade, but as we know, it’s darkest before the dawn….
There are great contributions from Charlie Gallacher and John Fallon, and Terry Dick, son of Glen Daly, who recorded The Celtic Son, told us how the song came into being (it was basically the work of Charlie Tully).
You can download this episode here but catch them all, you’ll be glad you did.
Two days until football returns to Celtic Park; can’t wait.

Yep. Also, wasn’t there rumblings about bonuses for CL Qualification?

Yeah – yer right M8
If I recall properly – after having demanded that – we pay the following seasons SB-money before the previous one had ended – knowing full well that – if the huns had won 10 iar – added to the fact that Fergus was dumping the management team who had won the fans their 1st league flag in 9 years – in preference for the retention of CEO Jock Brown ?!?!?
And yet, to this day there are still folk who canny / refuse to – understand why Fergus was booed on flag day ?

“I post on the three biggest Celtic sites but it’s extremely difficult to cause any mischief without outing yourself so I keep under the radar by posting regularly but uncontroversially.”
So the Gers bus was burnt to a cinder.
Do they get to keep the service history?

I don’t doubt Doncaster would have like some sort of “punishment” for Rangers gaining a sporting advantage. But he wanted them in the SPL.
Why would he have torn up a contract with Sky which had 2.5 years left to run and replaced it with one which required four “old firm” games? Was this not to put pressure on the other SPL teams (albeit it didn’t work!) to put a newco into the SPL?
I am happy to count myself amongst those who still cannot understand the shameful booing of one of the four most important people in the Club’s history, on the day the flag was raised for the first time in 10 long and sorry years.

I do recall your posts now and having re read Doncaster’s statement at the link it would seem that the SPL lawyer was not briefed by Doncaster and in fact has negated his statement.
The problem both the SFA and SPL have created through LNS is to undermine basic sporting integrity principles. Are the registration rules to be re written for example to reflect the Bryson interpretation? No chance as FIFA would point out their absurdity.
Have the SPL met as a Board and formally decided to accept LNS? Not to my knowledge because the UTT and article 5.1 (DOS notwithstanding) would make SPL/SPFL position, if LNS accepted as last word, untenable.
Have the SPL met to discuss tightening of their finance rules? If so why not tell us, it would be a form of reassurance that lessons had been learned.
What we have now is a governance vacuum at SFA and SPFL that is not beyond the wit of either to fill as Doncaster’s statement has demostrated, but certainly looks beyond their willingness and courage to do so.
In doing what they all did to rescue Rangers they have undermined the existence of the very industry that they all depend on for a living. By acting as if none of what we know to have happened, has happened they treat us like fools and anger at that simply will not go away.

I agree. I don’t think Wim was ever staying no matter what happened.

Agree totally with you on that one.
I shudder to think what would have happened if Fergus had decided it was not worth the hassle and buggered off to back to Canada.
God bless the bunnet!

DVLA are delighted to confirm that when new Ratners bus is unveiled, it will have all of the history of the original bus. “140 miles of unbroken history”

Agreed , Fergus should have been carried shoulder high around the ground, too many of the support fed the line spun by the MSM hook , line, and sinker that day.
Dick Byrne’s private guitar collection drew some attention from a local tree preservation group.
DBBIA
Agree, shameful.
But I have always wondered how many people actually booed that day. I was in the Jock Stein Stand and absolutely no one around me booed.
1,000 people booing out of a crowd of 60,000 would make a hell of a racket and it could well have been as low as that….
Albeit 1,000 misguided too many….
Ole Dick is excited at the prospect of bringin’ back the hairy mammoth from ole fossilised frozen DNA.
He thinks similar technology could rejuvenate the 10 /- notes in The Wallet.

Ditto, canny understand folk still trying to justify that day’s booing, some of our support will never be happy no matter what Celtic do..
There was a discussion on here some time ago about the five most important figures in the proud and glorious history of Celtic Football Club.
We all had our opinions, and my five were:
Brother Walfrid;
Willie Maley;
Jock Stein;
Jimmy Johnstone;
and…….
Fergus McCann.
HH!!
tully57- yes, and you get the bhoys who are booing the booers.
Anyways, I ‘d like to think if he came back now we would raise the ole roof.

I’m guessing that in true sevco style, the company will just buy a new bus, slap the old number plate on it and claim it is still the old bus.
And so it continues
I felt for the auld boy who Fergus let unveil the flag that day.
Fergus had a job to do to save the club he loved. He knew it wouldn’t be easy and he made mistakes. He never hid the fact he made mistakes. He went into a business he had never worked in before and the press coverage he got was shameful at times. He dealt with it all and got on with the job in hand. Every time I see our magnificient stadium I thank Fergus. Celtic would be nowhere near the club they are today without him.
We owe him a huge debt!

Find it shocking that this type of registration was allowed on a team bus.
The luxury vehicle was decked out in Rangers tartan and had the registration R1 WTP – a reference to the fans’ chant We Are The People.
Anybody have any idea when next season ticket installment comes out for the direct debit?
1st installment was out in June, is it august, september, october? or september,october, november for the next three installments?

I really couldn’t care less. It’s a diddy club and the bus was laughable. Shame it got torched really.

The Rangers’ fans seem to reckon that rival supporters had something to do with the fire.
Bit harsh on Dunfermline fans. isn’t it? Or did they mean Brechin?
