There will be no mention of ‘Drama Queens’ from me, but those who were uncontrollably distressed by ‘defeats’ in meaningless friendlies will no doubt be delighted to lean a Celtic team largely staffed by undergraduates got the better of Brentford yesterday. The rest of us remain unmoved, although I was pleased Amido Balde received some encouragement.
As many of you will know, the LostBhoys have been broadcasting podcasts covering Celtic’s history in recent months. It has been an incredibly professional, informative and entertaining look at our club through the years. This weekend they broadcast a decade I helped them cover, 1950-1960.
It encapsulated a seminal period for Celtic. When the SFA ruled the club would face suspension if they continued to fly the Irish flag, we could have gone out of business, or forever been robbed of our heritage. The decade saw many of the great names in our history at Celtic Park: McGrory, Tully, Stein, Fallon, McNeill, Chalmers, Auld, Gribben and Hogan, as well as the ever-influential, Sir Robert Kelly, but to those at the time it looked like we were heading nowhere. Celtic lost more games in the 50s than in any other decade, but as we know, it’s darkest before the dawn….
There are great contributions from Charlie Gallacher and John Fallon, and Terry Dick, son of Glen Daly, who recorded The Celtic Son, told us how the song came into being (it was basically the work of Charlie Tully).
You can download this episode here but catch them all, you’ll be glad you did.
Two days until football returns to Celtic Park; can’t wait.

Milan have won the EC/CL four times during the old lothario’s tenure.
Something Minty could only dream about.
He should have organised ‘bunga bunga’ parties, instead of laying on ‘succulent lamb and the finest claret’ dinners for Jabba and his cohorts.
Buona giornata!

Paradise Windfall is still the biggest half-time draw
By: Newsroom Staff on 22 Jul, 2013 11:37
THE Paradise Windfall is back for the new season and our first draw will take place at the Cliftonville match this Tuesday, July 23.
The Windfall has paid out a staggering total of over £3.125million to Celtic supporters on the pitch at half-time since it began.
We have made some changes to the draw for the coming season. Find out more details below:
What is the Jackpot prize for the coming season?
The top prize this season for SPL matches will be £12,000, which is still the largest jackpot in British football
Why has the prize reduced from last season?
Lotteries legislation requires us to ensure that a minimum of 20% of the proceeds are donated to Celtic Youth Development for all matches. The Paradise Windfall pays out a very high percentage in prize money, more than any other lottery of its kind, and against the background of the current economic climate it is necessary to slightly reduce the top prize to £12,000 in order to maintain the funds going to Youth Development.
Will the prize remain the same all season?
As the season progresses we will continually review the value of the top prize and increase the prize where possible.
With around £300,000 up for grabs over the course of the new season you could be one of our lucky winners celebrating on the hallowed turf of Paradise at half time
Remember to purchase your tickets from our sellers in yellow uniforms throughout the stadium – Good luck!
cheers green edge – ‘ve been wondering – have been seeing celtic ads everywhere – so it’s cookies !!

The old lothario was kinder to AC Milan than he was to Italia.. The latter got populist guff politics at enormous cost to itself . One of the biggest con tricks in history.

Nah – all kidding aside – he was booed and it was deserved imo.
Fergus very cleverly waited until Brian Dempsey and Matt McGlone’s
Celts for change group had won the hearts and minds of the Celtic support and put his dough on the table. When BD stood on the steps outside CP and declared……
……”The game is over – the rebels have won “….I thought that what I had been praying for was about to be delivered. How wrong I was.
Hardly two days had elapsed since BD’s announcement when the first crack appeared on the new crest. BD and Fergus wouldn’t be working together. I smelt a rat. The information that I got at the time was that – that the rebels did not agree with the appointment of TB as manager as he was too inexperienced – this proved to be correct.
I think that Fergus wanted someone – inexperienced – so that they could be bullied. imo
Fergus wanted to turn the Celtic View column of – Matt McGlone’s into a ‘pravda’ version of the old Celtic view under the previous regime. Matt McGlone a bigger Celt than Fegus McCann will ever be – resigned from the CV on a point of principal.
The rebels may well have won – but the wee tyrant from Canada wizny long in getting rid of them awe – eh ?

Fergus done the job. He had set a time of 5 years and delivered.
There is always changes when a new man takes over any business.
Fergus saved Celtic. That is a fact. If he fell out with a few people then so be it. It happens. The club is bigger than these men!

McCann on the attack over Celtic criticism
FERGUS McCANN, who has kept his counsel since stepping down last year as Celtic’s chief executive, last night hit out at his critics inside and outside Parkhead.
The Bermuda-based businessman has been credited even by his sternest detractors of his regime as having been instrumental in saving Celtic from bankruptcy and restoring them to financial health by supervising the most successful share issue in British football. In the year ending June 1999 he managed to increase turnover by 22 per cent and turned a £5.09 million profit in 1998 into a £6.75 million the following season, as well as transforming Parkhead into one of the most imposing stadiums in Europe.
He was implacably imposed to any involvement by Kenny Dalglish in the club, a policy which was overturned by the current chief executive, Allan MacDonald with consequences which have generally been perceived as damaging to the club. Dalglish was sacked in the summer after the disastrous managerial reign of his protege John Barnes and is now threatening court action.
McCann has been the subject of criticism in the Celtic View, the club’s official mouthpiece and this, in particular, appears to have stung him.
He broke his silence to issue a statement last night which read: “I have had my family’s privacy invaded and have had them endure false and damaging attacks on my reputation in the form of articles, interviews and other publications by various individuals connected with, or claiming to be supportive of Celtic.
“They have sought to take advantage of my absence and silence to advance their own agendas or indeed shift blame for their own failings.
“I am particularly disappointed that the club’s own publications have been used on occasion for this purpose, although I have received apologies for this from the Celtic board and assurances that this will not recur.
“My position is that, at this time, I shall continue to refrain from publicly responding to or dealing with the above as I feel it would not be in Celtic’s best overall interests.
“This is consistent with my practice during my time in Scotland where my reputation was at times distorted or even damaged while I took difficult decisions that were made for Celtic’s benefit.”

For me – Fergus’s most important victory was immediately after TB(RIP) had won the SCF in 1995 – to the backdrop of an ugly row between TB & Fegus and TB to his credit said he would work it out with the ‘president’ – had TB upped sticks and walked – FM er#e would have been oot the windy. imo
What would the fans reaction have been ?
Who would take the mangers job knowing full well that he would be working for a Canadian mad-vlad ?
