Duffy: “What goes on behind the scenes”

643

“Not many know what goes on behind the scenes”, Shane Duffy’s words on Instagram as he said his goodbyes to Celtic yesterday.  Arriving a year ago as a 28-year-old international with years of English Premiership experience, he looked like the ideal addition to the Celtic squad.

Whatever ailed Shane to prompt Brighton to move him on, a year in Glasgow, much of it in isolation away from family and his kids, did nothing to help.  His parting sentiment alludes to some of his challenges has endured off the park.

If footballers would only be machines, nothing like this would happen.  Competitions would resolve in a manner the aborted European Super League would approve.  Shane was physically fit and desperate to be a winner at Celtic but still came off the rails. You can bookmark him for a reflective piece when his career is over, I expect he will tell a familiar tale of the toll life’s pressures took.

Yip, still no news.  No, not a good sign.

Boris should do what the other great tories did, partition a country to protect their own self interest.

Let the tory borders maintain their union with england, and the rest of us have an independent scotland.

Worked for Irenald and India with no problems.

  4. and if Dumfries and Galloway was still part of the union, it would give the Loyalists somewhere to stay once Ireland is unified.

Hi Tim,hope you’re well, Howe’s stock was high for a couple of years, when keeping Bournemouth in the EPL comfortably, Arsenal and Everton at that time, would have possibly done better getting EH in ,than a Marco Silva

It isn’t, but don’t let the facts worry you.

Imagine for a minute that you are Nicola Sturgeon.

Would you really want to hold an independence referendum now, knowing that you would almost certainly lose?

The reality is that there isn’t going to be a referendum any time soon.

And the irony is that the more people like you demand one, and the more impatient you become, and the more vociferously you make your demands, the more difficult you make it for the cult leaders.

So more power to you. Keep pressurising them to do something they don’t want to do and will not do.

The problem though of course that in the meantime the things that really matter will continue to be ignored.

They’re more likely to move to Ayrshire, funnily enough, which is something of an SNP stronghold at the moment. Certainly that’s where they tend to go at he moment. Not many, if any, OO lodges in Shangri-La.

  14. Can’t say I’m overly fussed about EH as I stated weeks ago , he has done nothing except keep Bournemouth in the top league by the skin of there teeth . He has no european experience either .

What does bother me is the time it is taking to appoint a head coach , which screams out to me that lawell is still in charge of business , that being the case god help us , look at the state we are presently in , a huge chunk of that is down to him , he should have been sacked ages ago , takes out the club enough to pay a couple of quality players . What a blooming mess can’t see things changing anytime soon till he is gone ,

Personally think its a disgrace the SNP even thinking of

a referendum when there is still an ongoing pandemic

I am sure thousands of people have more worrying

things on their mind now than another referendum

On the possibility of Celtic having taken season ticket

To be fair the leadership have absolutely no intention of holding a referendum.

But they have to pretend otherwise to keep the dafties on side.

  25. If the basis of political argument is now defining a party by moments or opinions in history then, by that logic;

    The SNP doesn’t like Catholics.

The SNP doesn’t like anyone from Irish descent.

The SNP doesn’t like Celtic supporters.

And yet, anyone who opposes their constant campaigning on a Celtic blog gets demonised.

  26. The scottish people have voted snp and greens on a mandate to hold a referendum for independence.

The uk government should respect the will of the people of scotland. The stuff about not getting the vote because the last referendum was a once in a generation vote is silly soundbites and underplays multiple change issues from being forced out of the EU to the 500k to 1m people who are now able to vote and those no longer able to vote. We live in a democracy, the uk government’s undemocratic legislation that can be used to veto this undermine the equal partnership of the uk.

I listened to Michael Gove today on Andrew M and his arrogance in telling the scottish people what they voted for and against was breathtaking poor in taste. We are apparently not able to understand what we voted for ffs.

Leading Tory politician Michael Gove admits he would love Scotland to be given the chance to host this season’s Champions League Final.

But the Minister for the Cabinet Office believes Hampden Park would be a better choice than Rangers ‘ Ibrox Stadium to welcome Manchester City and Chelsea on May 29.

Talks remain ongoing with UEFA to settle on a venue with Istanbul added to the UK’s travel red list over the weekend which means no British-based supporters will be able to travel.

That has led to renewed talk over an alternative venue with several English stadiums putting themselves in the mix to host the biggest match in club football.

But Gove would like to see Scotland back on the big stage and earn their first Champions League Final since Real Madrid defeated Bayer Leverkusen in 2002.

Speaking on the Andrew Marr Show, he said: “Personally speaking, I wouldn’t mind if it were held here in Scotland. I wouldn’t mind if it were held at Hampden.
