I was at that game with a group of mates from Coatbridge and a neighbouring village called Airdrie. The rain was absolutely horizontal and driving into our faces in the Celtic End. We were soaked through to the skin as were the players. Visibility was very poor because of the rain and every drenched Celtic player looked the same with wet matted hair that looked black. I thought Harry Hood had a great game. I insisted he scored two and had one disallowed. My mate (Airdrie) argued vehemently that he had a poor game but scored one good goal. We arrived back in the Eagle Inn in the Brig to find that the bod Harry had scored 3 with a fourth disallowed. We had some laugh. I felt somewhat vindicated and my mate has never been allowed to live it down since. He’ll be reading this too. 🀣

To think some on here wanted McGregor hunted at the end of last season, the Bhoy is by far the best player in Scotland

    I agree πŸ‘†100%

  3. Great result and performance today.

Especially considering how I felt, pre-match, that we were up against it –

    Taylor’s 1st game after long absence;

    only 2nd game back for Starfelt, Rogic & Forrest;

    starting with the ineffective Johnston in place of Jota;

    Turnbull playing hot & cold lately;

doubts about playing TR & DT in the same XI.

Given all the above, and knowing DU had beaten them earlier this season, I feared a long day.

But credit to the players/ coaches. We were rampant, that first half especially. Should have been at least 0-3 at HT.

Glad to see Ange’s post match chat, in saying he wants to see improvement week on week.

Thought Hart (minor brain freeze aside) done very well when called upon in 2nd half. CCV and Starfelt were pretty solid. Full backs defended well, and made themselves available going forward. Calmac the link man – whether he looks good or bad is often determined by how other midfielders play. If they’re on the ball, we look a good team. Today, Rogic was excellent. Kept possession, won most of his duels, etc and scored the kind of goal that only he could today. Turnbull still blows hot and cold for me, and I’d be tempted to start Bitton instead, to give DT a rest. Forrest and Johnston were passengers today. JF just back from injury, and MJ not a regular player, so some slack allowed. But I don’t see MJ as anything other than last resort for a wide slot. JF another who frustrates (like DT) by playing hot & cold. Can be a match winner, but more often frustrating to watch.

Kyogo has the energy needed to tire/work opposing CH’s. As Ange says, when his team mates get up to his level he’ll be more effective.

Good use of subs today by Ange. Took TR and GT off at right time. Both Bitton and Scales done well when they came on. Great first goal for the young lad.

All in all, very happy today with the game.

Ps Crazy that Butcher can’t get retrospective red card (because he was booked). Ref should have shown red at the time.

And, like many, I too find the songbook cringeworthy. Yes, I used to sing these songs in my younger days. But I know (in my mind) that they belong in past times, and I’d like to move on. Maybe it’s because I’m over 50 now?

Why do we live our lives through through the lens of their actions?

Forget about them — we are us / they are a permanent embarrassment and an occasional disgrace.

Only the hard of thinking would respond to them.

*I too was at the game, in the enclosure opposite where the teams came out and we all thought Harry was poor but Kenny having scored a hat trick and one chalked off was immense, it wasn’t until we got on the Lomond CSC bus that we found out it was the opposite.

  8. Yesterday I watched Man City, now I’ve always liked them going back tae Famous Five player Bobby Johnstone, former POW Bert Trautman who allegedly played in the FA Cup Final with a broken neck and a young deep lying centre called Don Revie right up tae the fabulous side of the 70s managed by the Big Mhan’s pal Joe Mercer who just loved us.

The way they played the ball about at a fast pace had me thinking this is the way Ange wants us tae play, the only difference was the quality, not just on the pitch, but the bench especially IMHO the best midfielder in the country, Kevin DeBruyne.

Watching our game this morning I noticed the similarity again. In what could have been a difficult game after Thursday night we were really purring.

Now as some of you may know I’m a practicing Catholic and a member of the KoC and do a bit of volunteering work up at the pineapple. This morning I was asked to go up and assist at the first Mass, 09:00, especially with the social distancing.

I only live 5 minutes away so figured leaving about 8:40 (1:40 parkheid time) should be enough time for me tae get there and hoping for a good lead as with time added on it might be a bit tight.

At 2-0 I’m a bit nervous then when big Liam slotted home his peach of a goal off I went.

Imagine my dismay when I came home and logged back in again, no we didn’t lose any goals but instead of discussing another exquisite performance all the talk was of our singing repertoire, especially a tune that I had never heard before until about 25 year or so ago.

Personally I prefer the line β€œwhen the sun has come tae rest and yer haun is up her vest”, however that would now be deemed sexist and the β€œme too” mob would be after us.

As for the Lisbon Lions and/or the Quality Street Gang being offended, don’t think so as we didnae sing it then, the only song I thought was a bit dodgy was β€œOn The One Road” with the line about soon there’ll be no ken dodds at all” and yet I never heard any hue and cry about it back then.

In fact I was more urinated off with changing it from Dublin, Galway, Cork and Donegal tae Dublin Belfast Cork and Donegal as around hauf of Dumbarton have a Galway DNA.

As for being sectarian, gimme a break, even the β€œand when the music stops eff king billy and john knox”, as the former was bankrolled by the Vatican, and the latter was a demagogue no different from paisley and one of the reason sectarianism thrives north of the border, isnae sectarian, political mibbees.

I once asked a supporter who rarely misses a game home and away after a particular rebel fest at swinecastle about songs like TBOTOB and Aiden McAnespie and his response was these songs were particularly aired at certain grounds including hades, rugby park, dens park, starks park etc as these are grounds were we were NOT made very welcome.

So why Tannadice today, I personally think it’s in response tae the crawford allans of this country who are going out of their way tae target us.

He especially needs to be watched as he is supposed tae be on leave and yet took the time tae call intae the BBC tae discuss our apparent β€œoffside” goal.

The last head of the mitb tae dae that was the bonkle bigot who called snide tae completely lie for dougy dougy, that’s’ not what got him the tin tack but his disparaging of the Holy Father and even then it wasn’t Celtic FC that complained but the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland, and yet in his bigoted and sectarian way he is trying tae make us pay for it.

And to think that he applied for the General Manager position at our club, that would have indeed been the fox in the hen house.

On this anniversary of β€œwe’ve got someone twice as good we’ve got Harry Harry Hood”, I was at an opening day game at Boagheid, the calvinists were the visiting side and all they could sing was β€œJimmy Johnstone is a fairy eff the Pope and the Virgin Mary” and β€œeff yer Harry Harry Harry, Lou Macari, Kevin Barry”, not a peep in the SMSM about that although when the final whistle went they were glad of police protection when they made their way tae the Common tae find their parked buses had all their windaes panned in.

Now especially after that display the day that mob are scheidting themselves and the only way they can attack us is by having us fight among ourselves. Let’s not take the bait, and oh and I do have fun being an RC.

  10. BADA re Calum.

I was one who thought he looked depleted under Lenny and didn’t think he had personality to replace Broony.

Was also concerned he’d get like the Maestro and mibby never play at the best level he could.

He was great yesterday – quiet in the last game.

I earnestly hope he proves my doubt in him was very wrong and leads us in restoring our glory days.

Luckily he’ll have Ange’s steerage helping in that sense.

  11. lou macari wiz cliqued oot 94 = rfc 9 on

Callum needs to get some tattoos.

Then he’ll need to get a skinheid.

Then he needs to wear a T-shirt everywhere.

Then he needs to tackle a few huns in 50 50 areas.

And put those huns up in the air.

Then he needs to make the whole of hundom hate him.

Then he needs to get his arms sore by lifting all of those trophies.

Then he needs to get a MMA face for walking oot the tunnel.

Then he needs to walk oot the tunnel with Wee Jay the Tim.

And it dizny get any better than that.

  12. The hand of God on

After Thursday’s win against Hearts and the injuries we picked up I must admit I was worried about our Tannadice trip however when I saw our line up yesterday I was pleasantly surprised and confident of winning the match. What a superb performance, one of our best of the season,.Hopefully we can keep this level up until the winter break and stay within touching distance of ” rangers” and add some quality to our squad during the transfer window .Once we get our injured players back added to some new additions we could have a very strong team and very importantly a strong bench also allowing Ange to make changes during a game which doesn’t lead to a drop in standard and allows the team to keep pressing the opposition.

  13. Good morning all from a dark, wet and very cold Garngad.

Quad that Mrs Quad is a keeper, very well done to her.

    Great 3 points yesterday.

Now let’s complain about the referee and how he allowed that thug Butcher to stay on the park.

Against Hearts as well 1 of their players left the ground with a 2 footed tackle on Kyogo, a straight red in any other game. Soutar should have seen red for his physical assault on Kyogo.

How many games should our opposition be down to 10 or even 9 men this season for actual thuggery and assaults.

There is also an agenda now about Koyogos runs near enough everyone is discected trying to find him offside. Also saying he goes down to easy.

Ffs have they seen fat boy slim at the bigotdome.

    D :)

  14. What a team performance and what a personal display by Callum McGregor.

When a player sets such high standards it becomes very difficult to maintain on every occasion.

    HH, the journey continues.

  15. TONTINE TIM @ 12:36

I enjoyed reading you interesting post….in part.

You say “all the talk was of our singing repertoire, especially a tune that I had never heard before until about 25 year or so ago”.

We all of course have different views and you are entitled to yours, however I’m sure you would find that the overwhelming majority of Celtic supporters, like my family, friends & I, who have season tickets, find the resurgence of this ‘songbook’ to be repulsive. It happens on a smaller scale at Celtic Park but is frowned upon and usually dribbles away – unfortunately that is not the case ‘on the road’

Context is the key word here. In the world we live in now the stuff churned-out in Dundee is simply not acceptable. It allows the rest of us to be ‘tarred with the same brush’ as those who hate us and with whom we would never have any truck. It tarnishes & taints the vast Celtic support who don’t deserve it. I will support any measures that the club chooses to take to ‘weed it out’. If left unchecked it will fester and damage Celtic in the long-run. The perpetrators know this and don’t give a ****.

Celtic is a club open to all, but not those who wilfully undermine it

  16. Just an addendum – if an advisory had set out to discredit Celtic & the Celtic family, could it have done it any better than what transpired in Dundee and on national/international media via SKY?

  17. Great performance by the team yesterday

    Nit picking if I may:

Joe Hart is not good with his feet. Yesterday he almost cost us a goal out of absolutely nothing. Same thing in several other games.

I don’t fancy going into the sevco game with both MJ and JF in the team. We really need Jota badly for that game if Kyogo is to prosper.

McCarthy or Biton being up to speed for defensive midfield role for the sevco game would be a bonus allowing Calmac to play further forward?

  18. Turn your telly down you pompous prick

Vermin like you determining anything to do with the Celtic support.

Turn your telly down or better still go listen to that messed up prick you phone in all the time.

  20. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

From last night – well done to Mrs Quad on successfully completing a 50km run.

    Absolutely astounding.

Many years ago, I did a 50km run so can fully empathise with her.

Just about managed it without incident too …

… although the petrol tank warning light did come on a few kilometres from the end.

  21. Tontine Tim,

For once, I have to agree with JHB. The songbook that was broadcast world-wide yesterday is not only outdated; it is not only embarassing; it is simply wrong. And I have been a supporter for the best part of 70 years now. I know that is not as long as yourself but if we are ever to be accepted as Scottish we have to integrate rather than stand apart.

  22. Tom McLaughlin on

    CALL ME GERRY

Given all the above, and knowing DU had beaten them earlier this season, I feared a long day.

Dundee United didn’t beat Celtic this season. They drew at Celtic Park but haven’t beaten us.

  23. What is the logic behind a retrospective Red not bein allowed if the Match ref has given a yellow ( or a talking to?) ?

Surely the ref could honestly state that , from his angle, such and such an event looked like a yellow/talking to but seeing it on screen he realised a Red would have been correct?

  24. Tom McLaughlin on

    HOT SMOKED

What is the logic behind a retrospective Red not bein allowed if the Match ref has given a yellow ( or a talking to?) ? Surely the ref could honestly state that , from his angle, such and such an event looked like a yellow/talking to but seeing it on screen he realised a Red would have been correct?

    Good question.

The compliance officer is only allowed to intervene where the referee may not have seen an incident. By giving a yellow card he has shown that he did see the incident and has made his judgement.

The football authorities do not believe in changing the referee’s decision retrospectively as it is a dangerous road to walk. I tend to agree with that.

Only with the use of VAR can a referee’s decision be reversed and that is virtually instantaneous rather then 3 days later.

  25. PARKHEADCUMSALFORD on 6TH DECEMBER 2021 9:35 AM

I wouldn’t worry about the effect the songbook has on the vast untapped worldwide market of potential Celtic fans. The only people who have a scoobie about what is being sung are those already well versed in the subject and who will be committed one way or the other. People will hear the tunes, the enthusiasm will come across, the lyrics are unintelligible.

As for ‘if we are ever to be accepted as Scottish’, I don’t even know where to start with that.

  26. Thanks for that, Tom.I agree that the Authorities shouldn`t change the referee`s decision but I feel it would be acceptable for the Ref himself to change it but I can see that that, too could be `a dangerous road to walk`.

    Def off now.

  27. Hot Smoked – I hope you are well.

You would like to think that Referee’s would be punished severely for incompitance but then again its fair Caledonia.

  28. HOT SMOKED on 6TH DECEMBER 2021 9:44 AM

I think the idea is to give a degree of certainty and finality about proceedings, rather than endless revisiting after the event.

It’s valid enough idea but depends on a level playing field and lack of bias on the part of officials so its application is problematic in Scotland.
