Easy and important acts

620

The events of this week will be scant consolation to the bereaved of Hillsborough, but it is nonetheless important that football paid appropriate respects, as fans and clubs across England did this weekend.

When Celtic offered to host Liverpool for their first game after the tragedy they took a step to demonstrate solidarity with the people of that city.  In presenting a wreath on behalf of the Celtic Movement at Anfield today, Peter Lawwell carried on the spirit of that week.

It’s often the easy acts which are the most important.

Loved the Scottish Cup semi-finals. perfect result-performance combination which allowed Super Salary, Glib and Shameless, Newco and fans of every other club in Scottish football to take something from the first game.

  1. I’ve been fortunate to have seen some great gowfers

Nicklaus got it round better than anyone.

Watson had the best swing i ever saw.

    Woods and Seve were amazing.

But the very best was Mr Lee Trevino

who hit a shot while telling a joke.

  4. Serious question for golfers out there. I’ve not got a clue.

Last night I asked why those things with holes were called greens. Did my tele need adjusting?

Tonight, my question is: ” if you are on the green (or brown) can you putt with the flag in or must you take it out?”

Excellent post. My old man, in his 80’s now so seen the Lions, has always said there has never been and never will be a striker of McGrory’s goal scoring ability. He also speaks about Maleys achievement of 6 in a row as being up there with the Nine in a row in terms of the barriers he was against, MIB.

  8. Tom Molach –

If your ball’s off the green you can leave the flag in or take it out. If you’re on the green you taker it out or have somebody ‘tend’ it for you – i.e. it’s in when you putt but as soon as the ball’s on the way they take the flag out. If you’re on the green and leave the flag in then, if the ball hits it on the way in it counts as an extra stroke.

    I think….

If you are on the green the pin must be out

If you are off the green you have a choice

If you were any right minded person you would ask

yourself what a ridiculous game this is.

Trevino’s career was an amazing one — especially as he was only fully fit for just a few years of his pro career.

One of my all time sporting heroes.

Next time I’m in that situation in the Masters I’m going to blast the ball at the flag pole. I think I need to read the rule book.

  14. Evening all, the girls enjoyed the Dancing I’m Ice, but the lad who is the best fell, he got up and did it again, perfect. Good for him.

Indeed, being the age he is old age catching up, but when talking football it’s like a light just goes on, he loves his Spanish football, but when we start to chat about Celtic and he speaks about the olden days it’s amazing the recollection. He can recite team line ups from the 40’s and 50’s. And also talks about the great players from other Scottis clubs at the time as well.

A wealth of football knowledge and experience.

When i first saw Lee i was totally in awe of this

guy who had chipped in to win the Open.

I subsequently learned of the prejudice he had suffered.

To me and my generation Trevino was up there with

    Nicklaus, Player and Palmer.

But Lee told the best jokes

and chipped better than anyone who ever played the game.

  19. Firstly only interested in 1 Team – CELTIC

Ma Auld Da who is 78, ( and personally attended the games for over 50 years ) claims the best ever Celt was Jinky, and does mention other from before the Lions

For me, best ever Danny McGrain, true world Class, left or right back

Paul McStay, a real hero when we were struggling

    Hail Hail

  20. leftclicktic We are all Neil Lennon on

I loved Henrik, Kenny D and seen some of jinky but the player who made the biggest impression on me was Bobby Lennox.

  21. danny is unique among defenders.

big jock said that not only was he the best right back in britain. he was also the best left back.

    he was seldom wrong.

  22. leftclicktic We are all Neil Lennon on

    Ps

The “glib & shameless liar” King is back with statements so another brief period of bloody civil war will ensue over in Govan .

  23. Lennox is the most under rated of our greats

Lennox was much admired by his fellow professionals, such as the Manchester United and England legend Bobby Charlton who said of him

“ If I’d had Lennox in my team, I could have played forever. He was one of the best strikers I have ever seen

Alfredo Di Stefano of Real Madrid said of him,

“ The Scotsman who gave me the most trouble was Bobby Lennox of Celtic. My testimonial at the Bernabeu was against Celtic as, of course, they were the champions of Europe in 1967, and although I remember the Bernabeu rising to Jimmy Johnstone, I admired Lennox greatly.[9]
