Effective players

366

We had a family conversation this will about the most effective Celtic players we have seen for each position, not necessarily the best there.

I went straight to Alan Thompson. Alan was a hard left-mid when he arrived from Aston Villa in 2000, who became a wing-back under Martin O’Neill. His contribution to that successful Celtic team is incredible. The winner against Barcelona, Champions League goals and so many against Rangers, tell a story, as do his assists.

He was loved by his manager and capped by England while at Celtic. Still, he had limits. He was slow to recover fitness after injury and did not have the finess of a McStay or Collins, not everyone “got it”.

David Turnbull is a different type of player but I see parallels. He is also a player managers rate. Lots more to come from David.

CQN etiquette — No moon howling would be a great place to start.

Where do you start with that?

Never been afflicted with that terrible disease.

I try to be more focused — pro Tory rabble rousers being a particular target.

  3. David’s goal at the weekend oozed class.

We are gonnae need every one of the squad if we are gonnae do what I hope we will.

Re-enacting the QSG would be guid too.

On the new bar; it says that the Kerrydale will be opened on a ‘seasonal basis’. Does that mean that we stay at the same capacity but have the Kerrydale as surge capacity for certain games?

As hun games are on early anyway, what ‘seasonal’ games are these? Still feels like a risk to go up for a pint and get turned away

I’ll stick to Drovers I think

Didier Agathe was great for a couple of years before injuries got to him.

Coneybhoy- aye, hopefully a bit more detail soon, and folk can plan their day better.

  7. Watched a Celtic blogger last night Hamish (?) who had an inside chat with the Celtic SLO and gave a few updates along the lines of :

    – We looked at a Celtic fanzone idea but the Council won’t grant an alchohol licence and it is felt that this was a showstopper profit-wise. Talks ongoing.

    – Extension of the standing area next season, not this.

    – Ticket exchange being investigated but nothing in place.

    – Concourse opening to allow at least facilities for early arrivals.

    – No discussions at all about the south stand being rebuilt.

His words – we’re reactive, tactical but no great strategic plan in place that seemed to be the case a few years ago with hotel, ticket office and museum.

    Holidays being booked.

  9. big wavy,

    Thank You for that update.

For some strange reason when I load up the Tube Hamish’s blog is always there.

    Always good content anyhow, IMO.

Everything Audrey White said is true.

Starmer is not only dishonest and unscrupulous, he’s also inept.

What preparation had he done before travelling to Liverpool? What sort of reception did he expect? What issues did he think would be raised about him personally, or the direction of the Labour Party under his leadership?

Goodwin said we weren’t prepared to sell Scales,so potentially he comes back with a seasons experience under his belt, left sided CBs like hen’s teeth just now….

  13. Ernie Lynch

Any thoughts as to who Labour could have as a leader and who could be realistically electable as Prime Minister ?

  14. What is the Starz on

    Bada

would love to see that happen for Scales.

Hopefully he does well for Aberdeen and gets his chance with Celtic next year

  15. Turnbull, superb footballer.Because he does not run around like a headless chicken, even more so.Links up beautifully.Lovely control.Good finisher. There will be games for certain players, and games for others.A 60 game season. All will be needed,Turnbull,Hatate,ORiley,Mooy,Calmac, another,I think will be added.

Pity we have not enough firepower up front. Courtesy of Hugh Kevin’s.

  16. DT is a smashing player but, based on what I have seen these last few months, I think O´Reilly will be a more important player for us.

The one I have no real idea about is Ideguchi. He has 15 caps for Japan so I assume there is a good player there but we have yet to see it and competition for central midfield is going to limit starts.

  17. There is no room for Sentimentality, do your best in training and Hopefully get a starting slot for the BEST CLUB on the Planet.

We will need the Squad to be as High Skilled/Prepared as possible.

  18. For Sunday, I think it will be similar to Norwich – didn’t take much thinking really!!

    Hart

    Juranovic CCV Welsh Taylor

    O’Riley McGregor Hatate (Turnbull)

Jota Kyogo(Giakomakis) Maeda (Abada and switch wings)

  19. On the Liz Truss thing,it’s a bind.

    Naw never,then again ,nah,then again,well,I have seen worse,h,mmm,after a few pints,maybe,figure is not too shabby,coupon not great,h,mmm,nah don’t be ridiculous.H,mmm.

The things that can tempt a man in the Ottoman Empire,or even Asia Minor, are plentiful.

  20. CB @2.01

    Seasonal basis — not sure.

Suggests that it might be for season tickets only.

I thought that the lounge that became the Kerrydale Bar was originally built to support the free pie seats in the JS Stand. The demand for Free Pie seats fell — from memory £1500 per season at the time — and so the lounge could be used for other stuff.

The New Bar would seem to be extra capacity for walk up customers.

Not sure if the Kerrydale Suite is taking walk up custom this season.

  21. BURNLEY78 on 26TH JULY 2022 2:29 PM

At this stage their best bet would probably be Burnham, but he might be unacceptable to those who run the Party (as to which see the Forde Report).

  22. An Tearmann,

You are the Biggest guy on the Gannet, I cannae wait to see our Hoops playing meaningful games.

Can you make the Pool game in Honolulu that BRRB has organised?

    I owe you a drink.

  23. PETEC on 26TH JULY 2022 2:31 PM

I’m hoping to see a marked improvement this season, and for that improvement to continue next season.

That would probably require a degree of flexibility in the playing style to cope with the better quality sides. AP did show signs last season of not being too dogmatic in adhering to Angeball when the need arose, so here’s hoping.
