Effective players

366

We had a family conversation this will about the most effective Celtic players we have seen for each position, not necessarily the best there.

I went straight to Alan Thompson. Alan was a hard left-mid when he arrived from Aston Villa in 2000, who became a wing-back under Martin O’Neill. His contribution to that successful Celtic team is incredible. The winner against Barcelona, Champions League goals and so many against Rangers, tell a story, as do his assists.

He was loved by his manager and capped by England while at Celtic. Still, he had limits. He was slow to recover fitness after injury and did not have the finess of a McStay or Collins, not everyone “got it”.

David Turnbull is a different type of player but I see parallels. He is also a player managers rate. Lots more to come from David.

My last post will be copied and pasted tomorrow in case Ernie has been put to bed.

Put to bed early for his jealousy.

    Well that’s a bit weird.

I think the cheap drink must have got to you.

Why would a Scottish nationalist think that someone living here, amongst the rural fastness of Scotland with all that has to offer, be envious of someone living in Turkey of all places?

  2. SCULLYBHOY on 27TH JULY 2022 8:20 AM

Appalling behaviour. I’m not entirely sure what it has to do with the constitutional situation though, other than that the chances are that those involved will of Ulster Scots heritage.

There’s been similar things happen in London.

Individuals are capable of dreadful depravity, and those in positions of authority are no different. There have been plenty of examples of that over the years, north and south of the border as elsewhere. To seek to make political capital from that isn’t appropriate. It’s almost like you are exploiting the victims to score a point.

  3. Sadly, it is something that needs to be publicized, and it is not simply something that just happens everywhere. It is the vicious anti-Catholic undertone that is something that has to be called out. The victim’s sister made that point, or are you saying she just wanted to score political points? It is you who have now decided to use it to try and score a political point – a bit like the stuff you went over about Celtic fans paying off a rapist if they went to the Celtic V Raith game.

BTW why are you telling Turkeybhoy that if he doesn’t like the regime in Turkey that he should go home. Sounds a bit like a certain song (?) sung by Sevco supporters, ‘### ####### #### why don’t you go home?’

Turkey is a totalitarian, repressive regime with an appalling contemporary and historic record of human rights abuses.

You’ve chosen to live there because it suits your lifestyle ,cheap drink seems to figure large in your thinking, maybe you’re skint or are addicted or dependant on alcohol, in which case you’d probably find it a struggle to live in Scotland what with the minimum pricing introduced by your SNP, so I suppose sympathy rather than scorn is the order of the day

What a horrible thing to post about someone you know absolutely nothing about. The above says more about you than it does about TURKEYBHOY.

I don’t know the guy beyond CQN, but I’d be inclined to guess that he lives in Turkey through the love of a woman rather than a love of alcohol or a preference for repressive regimes. And where do you get off assuming someone is skint? That comment certainly does smack of jealousy.

I would venture towards a big guess about you though if I may. Were you bullied at school?

  5. Politics — the need for progressive solutions in today’s complex world …

I will leave that till later — but still shocked at the lack of desire / cohesion / drive for political progress.

How easily it can be splintered and manipulated by the right / establishment.

Football — the horror story of the St N’s Glee club limps on.

Lowland League — we are too good for / it not the standard we need.

Well the B Team got beat last night by our friends in the south — BR.

Mot good — last season’s showing of the U18’s continues.

Change seems to be on the way — just at least 5 seasons too late.

We seem to have some talent — just a case that it is missing the desire / drive / ambition to succeed.

A bit like the CQN chapter of Progressive Politics …

Funny how stuff goes round in circles.

When he is challenged about his living arrangements — it is not a case of why doesn’t he go home TFOD2.1 anti-Irish nonsense throughout the ages — it is why doesn’t he come home?

Pull rather than push and totally different.

The more fundamental question that he needs to answer — is why did he ever go there in the first place?

And why does he think that his pro Nat political sympathies have any credibility whatsoever given that he won’t put his money where his mouth is and live amongst them?

Plus why does he find LT — Tory Leadership infamy — in any way attractive?

I do appreciate that she has a personal history of throwing it about like the Fijian egg-chasers Sevens team on speed but opportunity should never equal desire.

The above is one of the worst posts that I have ever read on this blog since it’s inception.

What an absolute despicable and disgraceful thing to write about another poster that you don’t know a thing about.

You really are shameful. Posts like the above are more suited on other blogs…maybe you are better off posting on them…..It would make this blog a lot more tolerable…the way it used to be.

EL and his Turkish ramblings — the worst post you have seen on here?

Well you must have lived a very sheltered CQN life.

We have had moon howling on here with the name of a convicted child abuser used to describe / denigrate posters on here so your comments / attitude does not ring true at any level.

So either your understanding is partial — if that is the case then wind yer neck in.

Or you consider EL’s ramblings worse than the use of the name of a known child abuser to shout down others on CQN — if that is the case then your value system is somewhat skewed.

AW was just acting up for the cameras / Tory press.

She was drunk on the sound of her own voice — attention seeker finding a stage.

Regarding her political past — she is a sloganeer who would rather win a few battles / knock a rough edge of Thatcherism than win the war and take responsibility for delivering progressive politics to the public.

It is all about betrayal to her — she will keep going until she finds it so that she can wallow in her own personal satisfaction that she is right and the rest of the population is wrong.

No matter where she started – she is now a complete muppet / Tory useful idiot.

Your first point has some merit but your second point is gibberish. I’ve never suggested he leave Turkey, let alone return to Scotland. I’m merely pointing out that someone who has chosen to live there is in no position to comment on events here with any level of moral, ethical or other authority.

TB cited the cheap drink as a reason for choosing to live in Turkey. The other was the weather. He seemed to think others would or should be envious of those two factors. Personally I doubt the cheap drink has anything to do with it. And the irony that the cost of alcohol in Scotland was raised by the party he supports seemed to have escaped him. Moreover given the state we were all in during the recent two day heat wave (TWO days) I can’t see the weather as being a particular attraction either.

He seems happy living there so that’s up to him, but his commentary on the political arrangements here reeks of hypocrisy.

  27. SAINT STIVS on 27TH JULY 2022 10:30 AM

Perhaps that would depend on the reason why someone choses not to attend Celtic games.

But to be clear it’s not a case of ‘a guy in turkey’. It’s someone who has chosen to leave Scotland because they would prefer to live in Turkey, notwithstanding its repressive and authoritarian political regime and appalling human rights record.

  28. but whats it got to do with you where a person chooses to live their lives (regardless of the regime in charge),

  29. B team / last night’s 11 — seems to be based around the 2004 group.

That would suggest that they were last season’s U18 who did not deliver.

No wonder we are in Paisley looking for MF’ers.

Hopefully the new coaches will help them move forward.

The only issue is that if we build the B Team around 2004’s — aged 18’ish — then the gap to the first team squad is looking very big.

How do we give our 20yr olds regular football in that environment?

Is sending them out on loan the best way forward / the only way forward?

I think that we need to play more football — down to bounce games / challenge matches — to keep the full roster playing competitive football.

Has the club in the recent past staged youth competitions — overseas invitations / big prize money?

It would generate publicity and get the youths into the spotlight of the full support and not just the St N’s Glee club.

QSG era — players sent out to the Juniors for a season at 17 / 18.

    Is that another way forward?

  30. aye, thats it put them out to the juniors, thats way better than b teams in a fourth division.

still on about the glee club,

    dearie me.
