We had a family conversation this will about the most effective Celtic players we have seen for each position, not necessarily the best there.
I went straight to Alan Thompson. Alan was a hard left-mid when he arrived from Aston Villa in 2000, who became a wing-back under Martin O’Neill. His contribution to that successful Celtic team is incredible. The winner against Barcelona, Champions League goals and so many against Rangers, tell a story, as do his assists.
He was loved by his manager and capped by England while at Celtic. Still, he had limits. He was slow to recover fitness after injury and did not have the finess of a McStay or Collins, not everyone “got it”.
David Turnbull is a different type of player but I see parallels. He is also a player managers rate. Lots more to come from David.

Firstly, thanks for the football post. I’d probably say that O’Riley (free from the Rogic switch) is a starter and of course you missed out Maeda, who I think is a shoe-in now.
I think we’ll see this refresh itself by late Sept as we are still in the silly season. New joiners and others coming into the system more (Bernabei needs time but has the attributes to break the lines that Taylor just doesn;t have) and will Jenz dislodge Starfelt *who rightfully has the jersey).
Squad and depth taking shape (whihc is vital given what happened last December) but needs more time and investment and more windows too.

AP2 — I think we are two starters off being a balanced team.
We lack mobility and presence at CB — we need a new starter.
We lack defensive structure / cohesion in the MF — we might get away with better set up.
Although I would prefer a new starter to replace CMcG as the defensive pivot..
We did lack quality at LB — but GT is improving plus we have a new guy who is as raw as sushi but he might be a quick learner.
I think that AP is sniffing about a new AMF’er / No.10 and might let a starter go if the money is right — we seem to have sent out a RFP to some agents to see what he could get from selling one of the squad. Too many selling stories for it all to be just chance.
