Extending Kenny deal should be high on agenda

287

The largest part of our rebuilding exercise in the summer will be along the back line.  The departures of Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Elhamed leave a requirement for two right backs, while Diego Laxalt’s loan will not be renewed.

Christopher Jullien will miss the start of the campaign and with no signs of Kristoffer Ajer extending his deal beyond next year I expect him to leave in the summer.  Shane Duffy will return to Brighton, leaving Stephen Welsh as the only recognised central defender ready to start the campaign.

We need two right backs and one left back, the latter to compete with Greg Taylor, and at least two central defenders.  Recruiting all these players in time for the qualifiers is a huge undertaking.  We could do worse than to put extending the deal for Jonjoe Kenny high on the new manager’s agenda.

That’s £30.19m in transfer fees, and likely we paid a fair bit on loan fees (Duffy’s loan fee is rumoured to be £2m alone).

We’ve recouped c£8m on Frimpong and ElHamed, leaving us with a £22m deficit. I expect Turnbull and Soro (and possibly Taylor) will make us a profit long-term, abut I can’t see u turning a profit on that group of players. So much for the fabled “eye for a player”

    SPIDEY101-thanks

I’m sure BR said he had the option of no striker or ballotelli

  5. don’t fall for the slippery G masquerade , all part of the agenda for us to believe they are not biased.

I think there has been a major overhaul of the squad since Klopp came in. What’s been amazing about Liverpool is some of the squad players they’ve sold for huge sums.

    Rhian Brewster – £23,500,000, Ki-Jana Hoever – £13,500,000, Benteke – £32m….

Look at some of these. Huge sums for players who would never get near the first eleven.

  7. Michael O’Neill really being talked up now as a potential Celtic manager. Probably just media speculation or is there no smoke without fire?

Didn’t Rodgers sign Borini too? He was pretty bad.

  9. Fairhill Bhoy – no worries. I think you were right. Rodgers wanted Alexis Sanchez to replace Suarez and got Ballotelli.

Rodger’s Liverpool career gets a hard time in my view. He got them to second, then lost Suarez (Barca); Sterling (Man City) and Sturridge (injury) and given Ballotelli, Rickie Lambert, Origi and Markovic to replace them – it’s no wonder his team rapidly went downhill!

That’s like us replacing Dembele with Klimala…oh…

  10. SAINT STIVS

I was only in primary school but i’m sure Marie Rua (Moira) was a bus conductress with the red buses (Western) that operated out of the Johnstone bus garage on Milikenpark Road. The garage is still there but I think it’s Mc Gills now. I remember her and my mother having conversations about Ireland as we headed to Saint Margaret’s for mass.

Make your mind up time…if Beaton does nothing, he’s a biased hun, if he red cards Gerrard, it’s all part of an agenda to show they’re not biased. Which is it?

I can’t remember the point either – I think it was in response to this –

    BSR-Nearly £300m is a lot of money.

What was the return from any sold.

Where any still involved winning the champions league and league

    —————————————————————————————————-

I think the point is, Liverpool’s transfer policy was much better after they got their fingers burnt from the Rodgers era.

I agree that he did well with Liverpool but doubts were creeping in about his ability to organise a defence. People remember the “slippy” game but the real damage was done when they blew a 3-0 lead against Palace.

  17. Weebobbycollins on

And if I were Beaton, I wouldn’t leave my pint on the bar whilst I go to the loo…not in that Bellshill pub.

  18. Fantastic first half of football in the Palace v Man U game,

undoubtedly the best league in the world.

Are you getting Newcastle and Sunderland confused?

Kenny Dalglish signed Henderson from Sunderland. Good signing that proved to be.

  20. Funnily enough, Rodgers wanted to sell Henderson to Fulham but the player refused to go.

  21. Around 7 million for Kenny.Nope.As TET used to say, take a look at the lower half of the Spanish league, full of good players, and very affordable.Belgium,France, loads of young good talent.Don’t get me started on the Slavic countries.

No harm to him,but Kenny is not the answer.Maybe his nationality strikes a cord with some.

  22. TURKEYBHOY on 3RD MARCH 2021 9:15 PM

Agreed. Can’t believe there aren’t better full-backs than Kenny for a fraction of that price.

  23. Watford won today to go level with second-placed Brentford in a game many said they had to win if the manager was to keep his job.

Wonder what point their owners would’ve relieved Lennon of his duties :/

  24. fairhill bhoy on

    GEEBEE1978-like I said I don’t google.

I did ask where Henderson the captain came from though

  25. !!Bada Bing!! on

WBC- it’s a charade, do you think that they will tell the SFA they don’t want Beaton? They will get a penalty against them as well before the season’s out.

  26. FAIRHILL BHOY on 3RD MARCH 2021 9:21 PM

    Why wouldn’t you use Google?

To be fair, I didn’t need Google to know Henderson was from Sunderland and not Newcastle 😉

  27. Cannae see what Kenny has done wrong since he arrived.

Don’t know his transfer value, but a lot of people no liking him…why?
