Football’s ability to destroy the finest spreadsheets

492

I watched Liverpool lose their fifth consecutive home game in the EPL last night.  One of the best teams in Europe over the last four years, which famously benefits from fan motivation, sit seventh in the table and out of a European spot for next season.

Even on current form, Liverpool would destroy Celtic, but the parallels in the two clubs decline are clear.  Virgil van Dijk’s injury enforced absence at Anfield had as big an impact on Liverpool as Fraser Forster’s loss to Celtic.  Both sides lost significant numbers through injury and, if anything, Celtic fans have a greater reputation for encouraging their team than Liverpool’s.

Jurgen Klopp, the urbane football intellectual, looks lost.  We see unflattering bouts of temper as he struggles to understand where his Midas Touch went.  Jurgen is among the game’s very best; Neil Lennon should take comfort that what happened to him can happen to anyone.

You and I have often said that a team operating at 90% is unrecognisable from the same players at full tilt.  When one or two things go wrong at the margins, an entire edifice can crumble.  Watching Liverpool also suffer does not sweeten the pill, but it is a lesson that football can destroy even the finest spreadsheets.

    =====================

    Let me be clear

-dissent the boards decision, any way you wish.we all post freely on it.thats what Celtic is bout.

    – if you see it below my name it will be my view dont assume my view to then be broken down by your own counter.

The above post is a wee slur on our 9iar.The

slur being Celtic would not have done it if they had not been looking for the ba’oan the hedge or gettin pumped by Staunchousemuir after a stag night. chase yourself they conceived and rolled out as policy their own suicide note.we,Celtic had f… all to do wi that.they own it.

You attempt to differetiate BR from board as in he was failed in support.52-100m

it may be a trite ooint but said BR was a DD appointment.

BR was not supported as strongly i suppose that was after he let DD know of his offer from china.from that mo DD knew BR was off.

at a corporate level i can understand that.

Well its excitin times ahead.we go on.plenty of work to do, thats Celtic.tis been that way since we walked out St Marys Hall

  2. Provisional squad v Dundee Utd.

Scott Bain, Conor Hazard, Vasilis Barkas, Jonjoe Kenny, Anthony Ralston, Kristoffer Ajer, Stephen Welsh, Shane Duffy, Diego Laxalt, Scott Brown, Callum McGregor, Ismaila Soro, Ewan Henderson, David Turnbull, Ryan Christie, Mohamed Elyounoussi, Mikey Johnston, Odsonne Edouard, Albian Ajeti, Leigh Griffiths, Patryk Klimala and Adam Montgomery.

What a poor squad of players we have to choose from , why has it come to this.

  3. lets all do the huddle on

we have sleepwalked into suchba poor squad

picture the scenario – the new manager says to the new CEO – i need money for 10 first-team-ready players for the start of the season

what do you think the response will be?

because that is the minimum we need

    a state right enough

That same squad (with one or two tweaks) won the league last year. They were also capable of winning it this year as well but obviously didn’t.

    Whats your point

Struggling to work out how a “CLUB” that goes into administration isn’t the same entity as the fictitious “COMPANY” that was dealt the fate them liquidation. Or so we were told after the SFA, New Rangers, Press, Signatories of the most secret document ever i.e. 5 Way Agreement & of course Celtic (must have been involved) concocted the whole fucking con in the first place.

  6. myboysnowatim on

The bastards have sure crawled out from under their stones this year. Well I’ll never tire of telling them exactly what happened and they can dance around the facts all they like.

    CHEATS since 1998 (maybe before)

Not long ago perhaps even now, you’d have Celtic supporters with the mantra, that we were better than Rainjurz in every single position

    Denialism CSC

  8. I don’t believe BR ever did go to China, but let’s suppose that this conversation did happen.

Do you ever ask yourself why.

Could BR been trying to tell DD that he wanted more money

Could BR been trying to tell DD that he would rather move his family to China than work under the conditions he was being asked.

The truth of the matter is, we dont know, but what we do know, by all accounts is the conversation took place on the summer some7 months before his departure.

I dont belittle the 9, but do you honestly believe we would have won the 9 if the huns didn’t go tits up and do you not think that 15 in a row should have been our target with all the financial advantages we have.

PL has down sized at every opportunity, he has collected his bonus even when the club has failed.

As I said to if you are happy with the way things are run good for you.

To be honest you wont change my mind and I wont change yours and therefore we are just wasting time better spent elsewhere.

    I will leave with this.

We laughed at the huns, because they didn’t question their board.

We on the other hand are not allowed to question our board, even when we have irrefutable evidence of wrong doing.

Stay safe and at the end of the day, we all want what’s best for Celtic, its just that some have different views how to achieve this.

    Hail hail

‘Why are we not at full tilt paul67 ? Of all seasons to bugger up, why this one!’

    ###

I’d suggest that it is because without a league win this year the huns would have run out of funds, or any hope of access to funds, and would no longer be able to sustain a viable opposition to Celtic.

The man who owns and controls Celtic did not want that to happen. It did not happen.

    Draw your own conclusions.

massive clear-out required , players that don’t want to play for us , no goal keeper , no centre half’s or full backs no wingers do you want me to continue.

Forgot the Scottish Government who must have been part of preserving their sacred “part of the fabric of Scottish culture” and all that.

They were scared of rioting & public unrest – cowards – all of them.

  12. Ziggydoc – In the main I’ve only seen them in YouTube clips so I can’t say I’ve seen much of them. If I have time later I’ll post them.

I accept that there’s some in there who may be useless – I literally did it in a lunch break so not exactly rigorous scouting on my part. Some may be duds or just not good enough for us and I wouldn’t stake my mortgage on them all going on to great things.

I think what AT was looking for (and I’m happy for him to correct me if I am wrong) was to see if it was do-able. The £30m may be have been used as it’s what Lennon spent in his two years, so there may also be a bit of comparing too

  13. so the thousands that are currently gathering outside thems tip and breaking every covid 19 rule will be chased away , naw didn’t think so.

  14. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Nicola’s criticism pending.

When it comes it will be along the following lines.

“I’m frankly fed up [ half titter, frustrated smile ] talking about football getting its house in order”

“I implore every football fan, it could be anyone, Celtic fans [ always mention them first with negative stories whether involved or not ], Rangers fans, Anyone”

“I ask you [ ‘impassioned leader’ face straight to camera ] Please stop !”

  15. I don’t have an answer EL – why this year. If, when it was clear that there were issues with lennie/management and the team’s perfformance early on, there were no viable options for lennie’s replacement and nobody in the club wanted to make the decision, why did PL get the chop?

the refs gave them a helping hand, we collapased more than their wildest dreams could have imagined

  16. agree BACK TO BASICS – GLASS HALF FULL but she what’s to be part of the tartan army at humpden .

  17. The interview with John and David Turnbull was excellent listen.

Those who claim JK doesnt know what he is doing are way way off the mark.

If the guy doesnt remain at Celtic in some capacity, he will go on to be a success elsewhere.

    —————————————————————————————————————–

I would certainly hope so but we’ve been watching the game long enough to know what talking a good game or even being a good number two is no guarantee of later success. We’ll have to see. Maybe our new manager will retain him.

thought you could not appeal booking

I thought the same but it you can if the yellow card is for simulation.

  21. lets all do the huddle on

the huns had been gathering at the ground since 10am

so the cops knew the score

the teams wouldnt have been near the ground at that point so the police should have told both teams not to come near the stadium until the crowd was moved away

  22. I thought I had managed my disappointment about not winning the league quite well – I’ve had long enough to get my head round it after all.

However, the sight of their celebrations and hearing or reading about it is killing me!

  23. Clink\o/ 4x3 on

Any guesses on what time the penalty comes.

    I’ll say 55mins.

Cyber pint to whoever is closest

  24. Imagine 9 year of this!

Oh, most of us don’t have to.

I hope they win it soon. The damper the squib of their celebrations the better.

Half decent team in the EL to put them out. Maybe beat them in the league twice and the Scottish cup too. Anything to rain on their parade.

Mostly I will be ignoring them. Why would I let them have any influence on my mood? It us only ever the actions of celtic that can do that. I’m annoyed enough with that without letting Cheats FC and their brainless support base concern me.
