Delighted and surprised of what I hear of the value of our new shirt sponsor, Dafabet, who become main sponsor, with their names on the front of the shirts, for the next four seasons. This is the best commercial deal every written in Scottish football. Pretty much all revenue channels have been inching south for years, so being able to deliver a sponsorship deal well ahead of anything we’ve achieved before is hopefully a sign things are turning.
Bringing commercial deals like this into the club is the equivalent of what Brian Quinn once called ‘free money’. It’s total margin, without any fulfilment cost, and doesn’t rely on the fans putting their hands in their pockets.

Offering Magners the shoulder position on the jersey is a ‘more free money’ opportunity. The Irish cider makers are also here for the next four seasons, extending their stay on the shirts to seven years. I’d never considered a back of the shirt sponsor, but it’s clearly a prime slot for TV coverage. And it also doesn’t rely on fans putting their hands in their pockets.
Magners ‘get’ Celtic. They understand what we’re about and our social mission. Impressively so, for such a large organisation. Really pleased they remain in place.

It reflects the paucity of thinking at Celtic Park when next season’s friendly matches are being sold ahead of season ticket renewals.

You see part of football is meeting your pals after the game and moaning and groaning and laughing and crying about the game and the players and the manager and the opposition and the ref etc.
Usually this is/was done in the pub.
In the modern cyber techno age CQN becomes a kind of cyber pub where people laugh and cry and joke and banter and threaten each other just like the real pub.
Ultimately if me or you come on here and say …I think our left full is useless or the manager hasnt a clue or that eejit we have up front couldnt buy a goal.
It makes no difference and has no influence on what happens on the pitch.
But some people get very upset at any criticism.
Anyway I hope to get behind the new manager fully

BRENDAN RODGERS has described the Celtic managerial vacancy as an opportunity for someone to go to one of the world’s iconic clubs after declaring himself ready to return to management.
The former Liverpool manager has been listed among the bookmakers’ favourites for the task of succeeding Ronny Deila when the Norwegian steps down at the end of the season. When the prospect of taking over at Parkhead was put to him, the Carnlough man said: “Well, it’s an incredible club, a club that family and everyone support.
“Obviously the league isn’t so competitive, but Celtic are one of the great iconic clubs in the world, a huge club. I think Ronny has done a great job there, it looks like they will go on and win the title, so that is two titles in-a-row.

When asked directly if he could be the man, Rodgers said: “At this moment of time, I’m just enjoying my time off and I’ll wait and see what offers come in and, at this moment, there is nothing concrete.

Meanwhile, Celtic have announced the “biggest ever shirt sponsorship deal in Scottish football history” after Dafabet was named the club’s new main sponsor in a four-year contract. The firm will replace Magners on the front of the Celtic strip next season, with the cider brand moving to the back of the jersey.
Chief executive Peter Lawwell said: “Celtic continues to be one of the world’s great football clubs and one which is delighted to attract such high-calibre associations.
“Partnerships such as the one we announce today allow us to look forward with confidence as we ensure Celtic maintains its position as the biggest and best in Scottish football.”

You are correct Denis O’Brien is not a director and I was ignoring, but not discounting, the shareholdings of Keane and Trainer both of whom are more “local” businessmen I believe.
My point was that Celtic have a host of shareholders/directors or others who are active in the International business community and who are available to call upon re business advice and initiatives in communications, marketing, broadcasting, advertisiing and so on.
In other words they are people who can help grow the brand beyond Scotland and even the UK in innovative ways.
Forrest Media is a very good company and I wiould hope that Celtic make full use of that connection.
Again, I stress that I don’t think the PLC model is the best model especially for Celtic Football Club, but if you are going to have a PLC then use the best assets within that structure and by God Celtic PLC is made up in part of some very very successful and bright business people and has a wide ranging, eager and immediate customer base who would back what the PLC has to offer …………… if they are offering the right thing, in the right way and for a common purpose which the support can clearly see and get behind.
