Gang of 10 plan creates 41 winners and only one loser

983

Q. There will be 12 teams in the SPL next season.  How many do you think stand to gain from the redistribution of income proposed by the Gang of 10?

A. 11.

Q. There will be 30 teams in the SFL next season.  How many do you think stand to gain from the redistribution of income proposed by the Gang of 10?

A. 30.

Although TV and commercial money will be diluted, it is a sideshow compared to the real cash cow remaining in Scottish football, the gate money at Celtic Park.  The Gang of 10 refused to exclude this option from their proposed change in voting rights.

A 20% share of gate money doesn’t have sufficient support from SPL clubs, too many losers.  A 30% gate share only has one loser, everyone else wins, including the club who took 87 fans to a league game at Celtic Park last season.

This is nothing to do with Sevco, who are unlikely to pull a financially viable plan together (although the SPL and SFA are still trying).  You’re being asked to open your wallets and pay for the upkeep of 42 stadiums, squads, boards of directors and kit men.

This is not a viable plan.  It’s time for Scottish football to admit defeat.  Sport has been subverted for over a decade to the point there is nothing left.  We can keep Hampden and the national team going, but there is no viable league structure.  The sooner we accept this and move on the better.

again, I’ll buy a season ticket when I’m satisfied wihth boards actions.

Main point being “When I’M satisfied” no one else me.

If I decide to get one I’ll let you know.

  2. canamalar,

whats your view on how the board has handled the situation so far?

And quite rightly so, I thought they had met your criteria, obviously I’m mistaken. What would it take for you to start to financially support Celtic with the purchase of a ST?

All I can do is take people at their word.

The needles in the eyes comment I thought was just silly and childish,no matter who originated it.Not to say that it`s not offensive and totally unacceptable.

However, the part about “eating something fatty ” to someone who has recently recovered from an apparently serious illness really is the lowest kind of personal abuse.

The point for me,Kit,is that he copped that abuse because he stuck up for me.

You indeed have done the same for me in the past and I remember feeling that I hoped that wouldn`t compromise your frienships with others.

Thanks to canamalar for the updates.

May I be allowed to broach a subject that, to my knowledge, has not been raised? Specifically that of the Strachan era. The Strachan era, in light of the difficulties he faced from an unmasked enemy of cheating referees and unknown financial headwinds of covert dual contracts and brown envelopes, was an unmitigated success. What can anyone really say against the man considering the uphill battle he had to face? It puts his record up there with the best. Well done wee man.

So far they have done nothing, if you think different, you’ll excuse me if I ask for any example of that.

There are quite a few scenarios that can yet be played out and my decision will obviously depend on how I pervieve the action\inaction of the board.

  8. canamalar,

i agree with you regarding the boards action/inaction,

In other words, irrespective what they choose to do or not do, you will find some reason which will enable you to continue to choose not to financially support Celtic with money you have at your disposal……some “supporter” indeed ;-)

I am sure you have been on this site long enough to have seen debates about this very topic. It is debated regularly, passionately, and in forensic detail.

    Short answer: largely I agree.

Long answer: revolves around your use of the word “unmitigated” and involves tactical deployment of Aiden McGeady, signing policy, and persistence with gaming approach that had proven limited success.

For me, the most exciting moment of Strachan’s management was when he played Aiden in a sort of dropped no.10 role v ACM, to my mind one of AMcG;’s best performances for us. Never did it again. I wonder what sort of player he might have become if he played that role regularly…

…shite probably, as Trappatoni and his Spartak manager play him out wide, whereas I’m just a guy adding comments to a blog. They probably know a bit more than I do. I wonder what Alistair McCoist thinks.

There’s none so blind as those who wont see.

Donning tin hat but here goes anyway.

Maybe, just maybe, these proposed changes (relegate Rangers to Div1, fairer distribution of the tv revenue) arent such a bad idea (for what it’s worth I’m against any notion that home gates should be divied up ). I suppose it depends on how much revenue Celtic will lose in the short term. Where would that leave us? Up shit creek? There would and will have to be considerable downsizing in the short term so you can forget all about Euro Champs league glory nights for a while yet.

unless, you’re one of those types that happy for us to be cannon fodder?

Medium to long term if spectators return to football because there’s more competition and a better product is on show who’s to say that wont generate an even greater tv sponsorship deal (and other sponsorship spin offs) in the future?

It’s a difficult scenario because all these proposed changes are being rushed thru because of the Rangers predicament but regardless of that, I’m not so sure I want to see Rangers 2012 in Div 3 if it means x amount of clubs going to the wall (all be it due to their own fiscal mismanagement). What’s the sense in that exactly?

Okay so the dirty rotten cheatin huns get off lighter than the purist form of sporting integrity suggests. Don’t forget broadly speaking der hun are no better than dogs and as such even a dog deserves to be thrown a bone now and then.

    So with that in mind:

Relegate Rangers Newco to Div1( if der hun wants to believe they exist in some shape or form then fine they do exist, all the more reason to ridicule them forever more).

Strip them of their titles etc won whilst cheating.

Make them pay pack all the monies owed to every club and creditors before any history is transferred to Rangers Newco.

All charges brought against them last season are answerable, from sectarianism to bringing the game into disrepute and suitable punishment meted out accordingly.

I dont know about anyone else but despite being far from perfect that will do me. As an avid Irish Republican sympathiser I’m used to accepting comprimises and even shaking hands with the devil if need be. If it’s all in the name of progress then so be it.

Truth be told the game in Scotland is utter shite and if something can be done to help improve the situation I’m all ears. I’ve read Paul67 detailing the problems. He’s ahead of the game alright. But now that these problems are well documented what’s to be done?

Cutting our noses off just so that we cant smell der Hun isnt the answer. we have to be pragmatic. Let’s negotiate and comprimise for the good of Celtic and Scottish football in the long run. Change is needed, there’s no doubting it. If Der hun is the catalyst then at least there’s something good that can come out of their rotten corpse.

For years we have been paranoid, but now we know we were not paranoid enough.

Now, in the Celtic Spring, we know this level of cheating will never happen again.

Sevco might riggle into a better position than we hoped, but the overall outcome is still overwhelmingly in our favour.

    Our day has come.

McGeady was a brilliant player, no doubt about it.

Under WGS, during the latter period, McGeady acted like a spoilt wee brat too big for his boots. Spent most of his time on the park with his face trippin him especially at Strachans insistence that he should stay out wide.

  17. bjmac,

If Die Hunnen are parachuted into a second tier league after they have sat out a one year suspension of the SFA and start their new club playing in Div 1 in season 2013-2014, and they lose their titles during EBT dual contract era and they are knocked out of Europe for 3 years and they have their history recognised as nil, then will we be happy at that?

It vexes me that the chief medical officer and the professor are not in the photo.

I thought about you today as i listened to Judy Street on my ipod.

I am not surprised at your response.

Celtic have lacked a real visionary in the boardroom.

Someone who could have projected forward and realised early doors that NO RFC meant an end to the need for an 11-1 vote for change within the SPL .

Someone who when the first sniff of The Darnel’s carnage came about, started the moves of change.

The minute that UEFA changed the requirements and league seedings for CL automatic entry ,we should have been kicking doors all over England and Europe.

I scream for EPL football ,but the reality is no-one wants us,and we haven’t created an opportunity.

The board were counting on CL income ,and the goalposts have changed.

We can’t even count on keeping our own domestic gate income.

They know how to balance the books ,but creative thinking ,entreprenureial enterprise, has so far been sadly lacking.
