George Peat still casting shadow

1187

Predicting what is about to happen in Scottish football is a bit of an art.  We all realise that just about everyone has an agenda, so the first thing most of us do is ignore whatever overt line is being promoted by one or two sources of ill-repute, especially when they suggest that Sevco will definitely play football in the SFL First Division next season.

So far around 11 clubs have intimated they will vote against this proposal while only Stenhousmuir, the very club that stepped forward to give former SFA president George Peat a seat of the board after he completed his work with Airdrieoneans, have offered the Loyal support.

Apart from Stenhousmuir, only Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster seem keen on the idea of allowing Sevco to start their sporting life in two levels up from the bottom.

Ally McCoist spoke some wise words to online channel, Rangers TV (current ownership model unclear).  Having gained some first-hand managerial experience against Falkirk last season, McCoist knows that First Division football would give Sevco no guarantee of promotion.  He complained that he has only six first team players at the moment, although didn’t add “and they are rubbish”.

There is also the suspicion that Sevco are not shifting a lot of season tickets, income levels could be acutely low, and their potential fans appear to have no more appetite for a grubby accommodation than anyone else.  Apart from Stenhousmuir, Regan and Doncaster, of course.

McCoist addressed the prospect of additional punishments to be handed to Sevco for the misdemeanours of Rangers as a further reason to go straight to the bottom of the pile, however, he didn’t touch on the obvious point.

The only way Sevco are going to avoid penalties for Rangers EBT behaviour is if the former club is found to have acted correctly, or if Sevco make no claims to inherit Rangers club licence, name, badge or other unique identifiers.

Anyway, we have Inter Milan, Real Madrid and the Champions League qualifiers to look forward to. Bring them on!

yes 53 seen our Lurgan son lift the league title, his beloved Armagh lift the Sam Maguire and National league title and The Celts crowned European Champions and be Proud Celt.

If they are allowed into SFL is more appropriate and currently they’re not allowed.

  4. I was one of those who argued the toss with Lurgan53 about Stephen MacManus. I just didn’t think he was any good: I never, ever questioned his committment to Celtic. I simply thought Calderwood was the better of the two.

Through it all, I never ever thought that Lurgan53 was anything but a great Celtic mhan. I wasn’t aware of his illness but I did wonder why he hadn’t been posting lately. Thank God, he saw us win the League and thems go to the wall.

    May he rest in peace.

    Dear wigmeister,

If such unlikely history were to be made, it wouldn’t be “Rangers” who would be making it.

  9. Some words from big F

Goalkeeper Fraser Forster admitted that the opportunity of playing in Europe was “too good to turn down” in his move to Celtic.

The 24-year-old, who has been on loan at the Bhoys for two consecutive seasons, rejected interest from elsewhere to sign a four-year deal at Parkhead.

And the ex-Newcastle United stopper is delighted at guaranteed first-team football as well as the chance to star in the Champions League.

He told reporters: “Celtic as a football club speaks for itself.

“We have got the chance to play in Europe again which I’m delighted about. With the size of the club and the European chance, it was too good to turn down.

“Not many keepers get the chance to play in Europe.

“We did well last season as a squad so there was a bit of interest elsewhere but I always knew I would be back here.

“I think this is the right move at this point. I’ve progressed a lot in the last few years, it’s important I keep doing that and keep playing first-team football.”

Forster is not put off by Old Firm rivals Rangers newco’s absence from the Scottish Premier League next season after it was announced that 10 SPL clubs had voted against their application to join the league.

“Obviously the Old Firm games were big games but every game is a challenge in its own way. That, combined with Europe, should make for a good season,” he said.

“They were a big part of the SPL. But you have just got to look at the positives and move on”

Very sorry to hear about Lurgan 53 – RIP

On a more mundane topic – if Sevco end up in Div 3 – maybe we should loan Clyde a few players next season, just for a bit of mischief and to get Smudger sweating under his wig?

  14. I am so appalled by the continued acceptance of Orange Walks in 21st century Scotland. These ‘parades’ belong to the past. How is it still regarded as socially acceptable? So sad.

I was trying to explain it to my 11 yr old son last weekend as we were delayed while one slithered up the road in Redding, Falkirk. I ended up with ‘its a march of hate, based on antiquated ideas of superiority and triumphalism’. Then I saw his wee pal and his family at the roadside watching. FFS.

  15. Salmond will sort out Orange Walks.

By that I mean he’ll keep the marchers in step.

I have a boy the same age and he got excited when he saw a flutebon that I had happily just got in front of at a roundabout. He was in the back of the car and wearing a Celtic top. It was about 11 on a Saturday morning and little traffic so he wanted me to turn back so he could watch them and obviously when I said no he asked why?

Well i said ………… look you will understand when you are older

  19. Salmond would probably describe the walks as ‘a great colourful parades celebrating Scotland’s wonderful history and adding to our fantastic culture which is admired the world over etc etc etc…’
