Gerrard good appointment for club with short-term challenges

389

Newco have struggled for relevance this season, even among their own supporters, who have been increasingly disengaged.  They are an object of fun domestically and were not quoted outside of Scotland.  Now they are relevant.  They are being discussed in news programmes and by football commentators outside Scotland, and not because of an embarrassing defeat.

The appointment will ensure the renewal of thousands of season tickets that may otherwise not have been purchased, so for the first season, it will self-finance.  For a club with huge short-term challenges, this money he will bring in over the next six weeks makes the appointment of Steven Gerrard as manager a good one.  July’s Europa League qualifiers are a long way off.

This is true even though he has less experience than McCoist, McDowell, Warburton, Caixinha and Murty.  Gerrard has never taken charge of a full team of adults.  He will have no money to compete with Celtic and will need to pitch his tactical brain against Neil Lennon and Derek McInnes next season.  Results will be predictable, you can be assured of that.

Despite his warm welcome yesterday, he is, of course, another Celtic Brother.  This fact will visit him with the vitriol which became familiar during Murty and Caixinha’s reign soon enough.

All of this means we get to dismantle some fantasies next season, just as we did this season and last.  I see no downside.

I seem to remember a ‘rumour’ that he was ….eh…persuaded not to go to Chelsea !

  3. Not sure if this has been posted before, but this is the video Sevco made of Stevie Gee’s arrival at the Crumbledome.

Check out the cheap-as-chips M&S sarnies in the boardroom, Jimmy Bell’s barely concealed disdain at his new, RC gaffer, and Stevie’s “WTF” expression as he sees a portrait of Her Maj on the dressing room wall.

  4. Great players know how to be great coaches and by their incredible charm and presence other quality players will forget their wage demands and play for a fraction of their market value.

You only have to remember how great a coach Maradona was, oh wait, well what about Tony Adams, Roy Keane, Bobby Charlton, Henrik Larsson . . .

As someone once said you don’t need to have been a horse to be a jockey and very few horses make good jockeys.

I’ve always respected Stevie G as a fitba player….. I remember him early doors introducing himself with a wild challenge, he calmed doon after that. He was a Brilliant midfield player. I can see why the gullibillies are getting excited enough to renew, AGAIN.

  8. Hibs could win the League next Season if the Almighty decides.

I am not too fond of the arrogance about Celtic winning the League easily for the forseeable.

Jobo is very wise for his young years.

  9. In 1991 Tonya Harding became the first American woman figure skater to successfully perform a triple axel in competition. This involves jumping forwards with enough velocity to create time in the air for all the required rotations, before landing going backwards on a blade less than a 1/4 inch wide.

Sevco’s new manager couldnae even run on beautifully even turf, with studs in his boots, without goin’ up on his arse.

  10. PS Ms Harding, like Mister Gerrard, may have been ‘badly advised’ at times in the ole career.

  11. Notable that the The Rainjurz tactics board was devoid of markings.

As it is in Scotland just now Celtic fans of a certain vintage can travel all over Scotland on the buses following their team free gratis You might have to pay a £1 booking fee on certain long distance routes. There again you might just wish to sit in the pub all day following your team

Can someone enlighten me where the cash is coming from to pay Sevco’s new management team. We have been told for years about how they struggle from month to month just to keep the lights on yet we have this? Surely Gerrard would have checked the financial situation carefully before committing himself, he’s not that stupid?

In what way is that relevant as a response to my point?

    *

“I’m trying very hard to think of a response other than an obvious GIRUY. After all,you really deserve no less. But,turns out my Dad is entitled to a bus pass. Had it for a few years, since he’s 79yo.

It doesn’t entitle him to a bus to the stadium, old bean. Not at all,he still has a bit of a walk. Which at his age isn’t that easy”

    *

He’s not likely to watch it in the pub if he has a season ticket. He’s likely to find it difficult to make his way to the stadium, bus pass or not,if there is a one mile exclusion zone around the stadium.

  17. If Aberdeen don’t crap themselves next week and win against the Huns, they can finish no worse than third and only Hibs would have a chance to overtake them assuming we beat Aberdeen on the last day and Hibs beat the Huns.

Fourth for SEVCO is still on!

    Right ghuys.

Those who can, please put the clip up of that tube, Tom the commentator from Rangers TV. from today, which is doing the rounds on Twitter. E.Tims and Tam Sellick have uploaded it.

The parking ban will be a mega pain in the arse for everyone, but especially for guys like your Dad who could really do without the extra walking distance and time in the rain most weeks. The guy who sits next to me has two sticks he’ll never make it the extra distance.

I would guess that there will be 5000 cars looking for alternative parking outside of the no parking zone so it will be at least a mile and a half walk for most people. I have no idea where to start looking for parking next season.

We’re looking at going up on a bus from the Market Inn next year as an alternative, public transport around the stadium is hopeless, a 250 capacity train station at Dalmarnock with a train every twenty minutes, imagine the crush on the way back, or the bus (eventually) to central Glasgow or shank’s pony.

It seems like the council are saying its not their responsibility to provide transport that up to the passenger transport companies. Its a shockingly ill thought out scheme with no regard to how people can get to Celtic Park on public transport. It may be introduced around the bigot dome, when exactly?

Crap decision from a crap local council.

    Big Packy.

I’m delighted that Joan is recovering from her ordeal.

  23. Can The club not put on buses for supporters at certain points throughout a perimeter of Paradise? Surrounding areas?

You get on and pay £1, £2 or £3 whatever the cost to cover the driver and bus for the day, no profit involved? Price could reflect a one way or return?

    Only saying like
