Getting buy-in from senior players

1079

Delighted to see Brendan Rodgers is down to business at Lennoxtown, three weeks before the players return for preseason training. It’s interesting that he arranged an early opportunity to meet Scott Brown over a meal, and that this was made public.

Getting buy-in from senior players was one aspect of the job Ronny Deila allegedly didn’t achieve. The rights and wrongs of this can wait for Ronny’s autobiography, although you may wish to express an outsider’s opinion. All that matters to Brendan is that no one is able to speculate about the same issue on his watch.

There’s not much a manager can do three weeks before training starts than eat dinner with the captain, scout players and watch videos. I expect Brendan to have seen every minute of every Celtic game last season by the time players get back; there is lots to learn. In particular, what went wrong at the back to a team which broke defensive records in each of the previous two campaigns. You may wish to express an outsider’s opinion.

Those in the know warned us that blue collar crime is particularly difficult to prosecute, and so it’s transpired. Only Craig Whyte now faces trial in the Rangers fraud case, which saw remaining charges against Duff and Phelps’ administrators David Whitehouse and Paul Clark dropped at the High Court in Glasgow this morning. It’s far from a satisfactory outcome.

Good to hear the losing Scottish Cup final manager, who was left with some bears in Japanese forest for seven days by his parents, has been found safe and well, even if he has nothing to say for himself.

Is it not case that bits of rutherglen are in Glasgow.

While other bits are stuck in the last decade of the 17th century?

Re your trip from Germany to Italy.

I would highly recommend you take the train for your journey.

When we played Juve a few years back, I got train from Turin to Bologna to Munich, and the trip through the Tyrol region is fantastic.

If you go this route make sure you check Italian, Austrian & German rail companies for pricing as they all sell tickets for each other’s trains & prices vary considerably.

PS no idea where to go in Italy, but BRTH is a good man to ask

“So oppose appears to be enough to be sectarian, no ? :)”

No!- still no! They are two words with markedly different meanings.

Dislike is not the same as hate. Being neutral is not the same as being in favour or being in opposition. We discriminate via our use of language. I chose my words because I know what they mean. You have tried, very hard, to conflate opposition and dislike into being intolerant and bigoted and sectarian… and you have failed. The things you rail against on here does not lead anyone to a belief that you are bigoted against them or that you have sectarian attitudes towards them.

Also, Sectarianism should not be limited to religious matters, as the Judean people’s Front well know. That’s the kind of mistake the SNP are happy to make so that anglophobia remains outwith the charge sheet.

Now, just maybe, you are in opposition to the SFA and Sevco on Res 12 because you are a bigoted and sectarian so and so but it is equally plausible that you are pushing Res 12 because you believe firmly in the rule of fair and impartial administration, a more admirable stance and motivation.

Either way, whether your motivation is bigoted or principled, I’d still be proud to buy you a drink when the Resolution triumphs, even if it means drinking North of the river in Partick. I’ll overcome my bigotry and sectarianism about the Northside to pay you back for what you will achieve.

I’d recommend the campsites and mobile homes at Peschiera del Garda. It’s handy for the train station so you could take the wee fella to the theme park of Gardaland.

You are also well placed for the Roman(?) ruins at Sirmione (have to pay to get in). Sirmione also good for ice cream.

If you fancied windsurfing or hill walking the north of the lake at Riva is better but it is a longer drive back for a train or a drive to the airport. The lake is a lovely relaxing place in itself.

Don’t know if it’s still the same, but during my Uni days in the late 70’s, migration within Glasgow in the late 70’s was quite common East to West, and vice versa, but very rare over the river, North to South or South to North.

Of the total annual migration something approaching 90% was East/West and only 10% over the river.

I followed the same pattern during my 5 years in the City.

Started off staying with my wee Grannie and Grandad in Barlanark (great old ‘Tic stories, McGrory etc from my Grandad), then stayed in Cathedral Street, then a flat in Dowanhill, and finally a flat in Maryhill. All North of the River.
