God love Packie Bonner, spend “£20m to £30m to bring those quality players the fans are desperate for”.
There are two opposing world views: one where people call for unaffordable money [those figures would be]to be spent because fans of a football club are “desperate”, the other where people want football clubs to spend what they can afford.
The latter group remember football’s crash-and-liquidate days – and learned the lessons. The former also remember the crash-and-liquidate days, but they are impervious to lessons.
We can debate what the size of an affordable spend is, but a couple of parameters have to be observed:
If it increases the cost base to such an extent that a reversal on the field would plunge the club into financial disarray, it’s unaffordable.
Players need to be appropriate for the environment – with neighbouring clubs earning £100m each season from TV deals, only players of a certain profile will play for a club with a considerably smaller wage bill (and turnover).
We live in a time when Scots Steven Naismith went for £8.5m (1 goal in 9 starts) and Ross McCormack went for £11m. These are common values for this calibre of player. We all want Celtic to improve, but that will not be achieved by spending unsuitable or unaffordable money. Packie, think back to Valentine’s Day 2012 and add a dose of perspective.
Get better at scouting, get fitter, improve the coaching – and spend everything you can afford, not any more. That’s the model for Celtic.

You like tearing apart a straw man, don’t you?
Where did I say the Jews were the first to settle Jerusalem?
Spouting soundbites like, “propaganda and lies,” might sound good in your head, but you are guilty of believing and repeating the same yourself.
You are deluding yourself if you think the “Palestinians” are the original inhabitants of the land there. They didn’t even identify as a national group until the 1960’s.
Oh bugger it’s only the zionists I appear to be annoying

Actions speak louder than words.
You should try it sometime.
Sandman, looks like you were right after all, well done corky :)
Give Palestine back to the cavemen!
But I’m no sure how godwins applies when mention is within context
If one of the reasons people didn’t fancy Ronny was his lack of ‘big club’ or European experience, then there are exactly the same issues with Hartley, Stubbs, McIntyre, etc.
Clear message from Paul, however, seems to be that it is full steam ahead for the Good ship Celtica on the same strategic course, but with a new First Mate (PT Lawwell remaining as Ship’s Captain).
That being the case, it might well be someone not too much on the current radar. I saw ABV mentioned by a couple on here – he may fit the bill if available / interested. Also some other notable Spanish / continental managers have been mentioned.
I’m hope there will be consideration outwith the usual ‘Celtic links’ candidates – that pool is small and limited. It is a big football world out there, and we need to be outward-looking – not stuck completely in the ‘Celtic-minded’ category of manager, no matter the need to sell SBs.
I’m only 50/50 as to whether we will be outward-looking – but I’d like another imaginative Ronny-type appointment (i.e. someone with a modern philosophy), only with much more experience and practicality.

That article today could have been written by PL himself. Maybe it was? This site is following the Lawell strategy. Full of crap, but if it brings in personal money then never mind the quality being fed to the viewers. This site sold its soul at the same time Lawell employed his sell at any cost. The link is obvious.
Like Celtic, the charity arm is commendable but has practically sod all to do with the CEO of the club, or the owner of this site.
Rant over…. And oot. Take care amigos.
First sign of interfering from Lawwell Keane will be on the M6,not for me

Absolutely brilliant!
Popped in – had a quick look – adios
I want almost anyone but Roy Keane.
Appointing him would be an absolute disaster. His record in England is no better than Tony Mowbray’s, and I don’t get the impression he was ever exactly popular with the people who played under him.
Not for me, I’m afraid.
Get these bloody scots out of here.

Article from Irish Times, May 25th 2009 on departure of WGS.
the story mentions ‘Rangers’ claiming 11.5m euro ‘bounty’ for qualifying to the Champions League by winning the title.
Possible new managers mentioned, Tony Mowbray, Owen Coyle, Mark McGee, Craig Levein, Neil Lennon, Mick McCarthy and David Moyes.
Seven years on seems you only have Brendan Rodgers, Michael O’Neill and Roy Keane as additional names.
DD, “Gordon leaves Celtic a better club both on and off the balance sheet.”
I wonder what effect the 11.5m would have made to the balance sheet?

*and seemingly the mhan we oul yins refer tae as the “Latter Day Christ” wisnae too popular with the players either.
The MSM and SFA would scheidt themselves if Roy was appointed.
No too bothered who the next manager is as long as they are allowed to control all footballing decisions are not simply a coach without authority put in place to coach the players given.

DD wanted Roy K before RD – but PL had his way and RK was sent packing
RD was shipped in with the “new world” message
RD’s quality was his ability to say yes Peter whatever you want Peter and when do you want it Peter
RK did brilliant with Sunderland for a season then the wheels came off
So like you Im nervous
But one quality that RK brings is his ability to tell it like t is – disruptive yes he has been
If DD wants him and he comes it could put PL in an awkward place !!
Also I don’t believe RK will come if he has to work under the PL rule book
I’m not sure I want RK but if he was appointed it speaks volumes to a change in the structure
Also I wonder what the current Irish lads think of him – I believe at Sunderland and Ipswich he was detested because of his aggressive style – perhaps MO’N and experience have calmed him ?? long shot

However
I see Steven McLean has his reward for stopping the treble last year.

PeterLawellQuicknews has a certain ring to it, don’t you think?
Just think in 5 years time and 102 “project buy” midfielders later, there could be a statue outside CP as well, to commemorate us winning 10AIR. First CEO to achieve this :-)

A full-on pisstake of the Scottish MSM’s continuing silence over the OffShore Game Report https://theclumpany.wordpress.com/2016/05/10/the-no-news-day/
we would never have had that semi-final “performance” against govan wanderers under Keano.
Ffs? Still talking about Isreal , Palastine, and the British empire? Feck this I’m outa here, HH, or are you not allowed to post HH now, the way these crackpots have been going on all day, you soon won’t be, amazing how Google makes everyone a smart arse :))
DAMO LENNON on…
I reckon you’re going to be disappointed then.
Not my first choice but he would get my backing, let’s hope the board will be same if it is so!

a new manager has to perform a miracle to get us ready for the europa league let alone CL
Will ther be another challenger

The main appeal of Keane seems to be that he was a great player for Man Utd and has a reputation for being a hard man.
I really don’t see those counting for anything. I just see no evidence in his managerial career to date that he is a good football manager.
Sorry about the above. I don’t usually make a habit of talking to myself :)

Received my renewal form today. If Scott Brown truly wrote the letter to us that arrived with the form, then he really has acquired the sense of who we are. Always thought he tried his best for us, even in these months when he has been turning out with an injury.
Just one thought, did he write the letter or did it come from our PR man who supports Hearts and who we hear little or nothing from? Indeed I am sure most of us would walk past him in the street and not know who he was? His department is one that I think should be overhauled. We have been silent for far too long.
Incidentally as serious as the Middle East situation is, I wish people on here would return to matters that effect the club. Let us have a peace treaty for the next week as we build up to the celebrations when the League Trophy will be presented.
Only one thing will spoil the day, viz., the appearance of Doncaster , or whatever his name is. After what the SFA/SPFL appear to have been involved I am surprised he will show his face.

I’ll back whoever is the Celtic manager, but I will be disappointed if it’s Roy Keane.
Sandman,
Was waiting for the hitler bomb, I thought the nazi bomb was well within context throughout the discussion, I’m pretty sure Godwin law was about including it without context.
Catman – seen that, disgusted but not surprised
Ellbhoy at 4.15 – among many historically and factually inaccurate posts today, that tops the lot.
Just plain wrong on almost every point.
And when it slips in to anti palestinian rhetoric it gets even worse.
A career as lead writer for the daily mail awaits you.
overseasbhoy on 10th May 2016 6:00 pm
I don’t think we can say that. Sunderland and Ipswich had plenty of performances like that under Roy Keane.
