Hayes, Koki Mizuno and the right-mid gap

1491

You and I have been doing this long enough to remember this place in meltdown at the prospect of Celtic signing a player from another SPL club. Domestically sourced talent was regarded as unimaginative, cheap, even. Contrast this with the utter joy when we signed Koki Mizuno, who was full-on exotic, but built for finer things then competitive football.

At 29, Aberdeen’s Irish international midfielder, Jonny Hayes is certainly unimaginative, and may be comparatively cheap, but he’s also a low-risk option for Celtic, who will know what they could get (and what they will not get) from the player.

With Patrick Roberts due to report to Manchester City on his return from holiday, Celtic are short of options for right-mid, with the first Champions League qualifier only five weeks away. The manager will view this gap in his squad as an unnecessary risk to next season’s objectives.

Jimmynotpaul, Tony would probably not be to impressed with losing the semi to the Springburn maroon balloons.

I tend to bump into him in the Kingsgate Retail Park in East Kilbride so hopefully I will see him soon.

One of the last times I met him, he told that our games he gets to he pays more attention to tactics and team formations rather than enjoying the game( he still wants us to win of course) to give him ideas for the future .

With all this Hayes talk i thought i would watch the Scottish Cup Final again to see what all the fuss is about. If any of you still have the match recorded can i suggest you watch the first half again and put Hayes on ‘player cam’. Seriously, he causes us a lot of problems as you will see, getting into dangerous areas and putting balls into the box, getting in behind full backs and pressing the game extremely well. He is very quick. There are a few instances where he does good work defensively too. Almost all of Aberdeen’s good work goes through him. His goal is very well taken.

In the second half he drifts out of it, which would coincide with his team doing likewise. The one big moment is when he dispossess McGregor. The work rate in the first instance is great, as for the slide rule pass i think he could have taken a bit off it but you can see he is trying to thread it through a gap and doesn’t want Brown to get it. Hayes and McLean are probably equally at fault.

Overall i was pleasantly surprised with his performance.

Wasn’t sure if my young boys were ready for weekly, but more importantly, night games. Had taken them to the odd league game or cup game here and there but they said they were ready for every 2nd week plus late nights mid-week.

4 1/2 hours queuing today and got us all tickets. The look on their faces was a bloody picture !
