You and I have been doing this long enough to remember this place in meltdown at the prospect of Celtic signing a player from another SPL club. Domestically sourced talent was regarded as unimaginative, cheap, even. Contrast this with the utter joy when we signed Koki Mizuno, who was full-on exotic, but built for finer things then competitive football.
At 29, Aberdeen’s Irish international midfielder, Jonny Hayes is certainly unimaginative, and may be comparatively cheap, but he’s also a low-risk option for Celtic, who will know what they could get (and what they will not get) from the player.
With Patrick Roberts due to report to Manchester City on his return from holiday, Celtic are short of options for right-mid, with the first Champions League qualifier only five weeks away. The manager will view this gap in his squad as an unnecessary risk to next season’s objectives.

…and still the Hayes debate rumbles on….the sun is shining in my back garden. Beer and cigar time whilst I count my blessings. HH
This team needs a Dubliner
Have we had
“I won’t be renewing, returning or spending etc if the board don’t show some ambition ” yet?
I mean come on we are two days into June and Sevco have already stolen a march on us by their top quality signings so far. Winning an invincible treble is so last week. What have Celtic done for us this week?
Good grief I thought yesterday was bad when Mr “expectation management” made his reappearance after posting so little for six months but today has been a belter.
Maybe all of those who “know” what Celtic intend to do in the transfer window should publish the minutes of the board meetings they must obviously attend.
Gooooood Evening CQN
Have we signed anybody yet :-)
I asked last night, is it only Kris and Eve who are out of contract ?
And who should we be looking to move on ? Other than Ciftci, Janko, Allen and GMS ?
Hayes a decent replacement for the 4 mentioned ? Creates plenty and has good defensive and mobility for a midfielder
And for me, a better option than a James Forrest who had a decent 3 months this year – first time this past 3 seasons
Hail Hail
Our first signing last season (Moussa) was on the 28th of June, Sinclair didn’t arrive till August. Patience.
I’ve said for a few days now. Hayes replaces GMS magic. Hayes replaces Paddy about so magic.
We do need depth in the position J.H. plays.
I’m happy to welcome J.H. if he signs but would hope for more automatic first team picks as the window progresses.
Auldheid.
You are correct, Celtic did progress to Champions league against the odds, we were 13/8 to qualify, so odds on not to.
Hail Hail
Should read, replaces Paddy not so magic.
Hail Hail
Staggering negativity about Hayes.
Do you think perhaps Brendan has done enough to, y’know, earn our trust for a wee bit?
As for Sevco. £1million for Dorans? Where is this money coming from? They lose money, have no credit facilities, and a chairman facing another expensive court ruling.
OWEN. Many howlers here with too many differing views , etc.
Evening, just back hols haven’t read back to tired.
Just popped on to say thanks to A STOR MHA CHROI for the links last night , played them when I came back full cut ps try the one tierney coming back from the hospital
Page 1& 2 ok. 7& 8 ! And still it goes on …..Calling Delaneys Dunky .
Please G , can you pass on some of those mind calming substances to a few on here . Pronto .Please .
My toupenceworth .
We require a strong squad . Repeat squad . Anyone who thinks Hayes is a direct replacement for P.Roberts ain’t paying attention .
In Brendan I trust .
Finally…..was Scott McDonald champions league class ?
It’s all about the team chaps . That’s eleven players chosen from a squad . Repeat . Squad.
Whit’s going on?
Jimmynotpaul, If you have the chance , watch or record this Sunday’s Junior Cup final at 4pm on BBC Alba.
It could be good viewing that’s all I’m saying.
Petershill beat Pollok 2 1 in the Central League cup semi final the other night.
I agree with your post at 7.50 .
If Brendan wants to sign a player, I trust his judgement. I remember being doubtful about Harry Hood and Steve Murray. They were great players and served us well. I reckon Jonny Hayes is in the same mould.
If we dont lose any 1st pick players, I am more confident of CL Group Stage participation. If we sign 2 or 3 “quality” or “star” players, we can maybe dream of last 16. That would be definite progress. The sad thing for me is that this is the furthest we could ever hope to reach. Anything further would require megabucks on transfers and wages. Not for us.
If I am correct, we haven’t signed anyone yet, and the transfer window isn’t open to allow us to, maybe there is a connection
MagnificentSeven
They are opening the window early, so wee Johnny can squeeze through without anybody noticing:)
HH
I’m assuming the que today wasn’t that big
Angelgabriel , well put .
One advantage Hayes has is e can use both his feet well and is a good crosser of the ball. I know we dont have a forward who is exceptional in the air but well measured crosses can connect with our players in the opposition box.
Clique?:-))))))(((
Fairhillbhoy, the queue at the Ticket Office was along London Road.
Someone posted a photo earlier , either on here or etims twitter.
Fairhillbhoy , I meant to say the queue was along London Road towards the bottom of the Celtic Way
All this talk about signings.
What about the fan’s café beside the superstore?
Remember Sevco have season ticket money burning a hole in their pockets. They will be keen to spend it on diddies before they need to pay any bills.

Cannae begin to imagine what this place would have been like when we signed Agathe!

Meep, meep Roadrunner
What a player. Centre forward at Hibs, purchased for £50k and converted to full back/winger. So much pace and what an engine.

Dallas Dallas 8.38 . Thanks . Btw , on the junior football , I’m led to believe Glenafton will emerge as winners in the cup final . According to some pals who take an interest or are involved in Junior fitba . HH

The bid for Dorrans is, IMHO, a smoke screen. Norwich won’t accept it and he won’t go to them for the wagers they could offer (probably no more than £10K a week).
It keeps the gullible happy enough to buy season tickets!

Normally I would have a degree of sympathy for a person fumbling and floundering so badly in a public speaking scenario (having first hand experience of bombing in a public speaking situation)…

Dallas.
That’s a bad result for Pollok, the Springburn loyalists are the division below Pollok.
Yes, I will record it, I fancy Glenafton to win it.
