Hibs are above Celtic for good reason

419

The next 19 days sees Celtic in action against Hearts twice, Leipzig twice, Hibs (tomorrow) and Dundee, the latter the only prosaic occasion among them.  How we negotiate this period will go a long way to determine our domestic and European season.

Brendan will almost certainly rest Tom Rogic after his midweek trip to Kuwait but with five days until we face Leipzig, I expect a full strength team for the visit of Neil Lennon’s side.

Hibs are above us in the league for a reason, they have lost only twice this season (once domestically and once in Europe) and have the best goal difference in the league.  They did very well home and away against us last season and Neil will ensure his team have no concerns about visiting Celtic Park this term.

The players know the scale of the challenge ahead, which should bring the best out of them.  A sneaky feeling we might end the weekend top of the league too.

    Anyone buzzin for tomorrow’s match?

This will be our toughest home league game this season. We need our Perth form from the off. Neil Lennon knows how to beat us. Hibs will be set up accordingly. This match is huge.

    Mon the Hoops!

  2. DD, Wee Leigh is unwell but I’m not too worried. We have plenty other potential goal scorers. I just hope they are fully up for it. I’m sure they will be. 60k at Celtic Park against NL and Hibs. You couldn’t ask for a better scenario.

Brendan Rodgers has revealed Leigh Griffiths is ill but could still play for Celtic against Hibs on Saturday.

The striker missed training on Friday after pulling out of the Scotland squad due to fitness issues.

    Love Jim’s Hymns you post.

Do you have a Hail Glorious Saint Patrick, dear Saint of our Isle video hymn. My favourite that I sang with gusto, when MacJay’s mum played it beautifully on the grand organ in Saint Paul’s Whiteinch.

Can’t wait for the game tomorrow, loved the battle of the greens ever since the early 70s when we beat them 6-2 and 6-3 in two finals IIRC. I was at both with my sisters.

Also lived in Edinburgh for 15 years so have a load of Leithie friends. Was at the game at Easter Road when that thug Souness sliced George McCluskey’s leg open.

Everybody I know is predicting goals but I think it’s going to be tight.

Only a foot would predict etc etc.

    Being a fool, I predict 2-1 us.

  15. DD,

Here is Shotts St. Patrick’s Brass band playing a march called Terry. It’s in 4 parts:

    Intoduction

    Hail Glorious St. Patrick

    Bass Solo

Terry my blue eyed Irish boy.

Not quite a hymn as such but a right good wee tune. They all love it when we all go to the seaside every June. About 5,000 of us. Giving it laldy in the main streets of Ayr and Burntisland. Some people call it the Catholic ‘Walk’

Stayed in Edina Place off Easter Road for 3 years mid 80s. Trainspotting era. Embra was more mental than Glesca then. Smack attacked Leith heavily. Sad to witness at the time.

*The Rev Ian Miller at Bonhill Parish Church was a die-hard Celtic supporter, it was he that traced Neilly McCallum’s grave in the parish cemetery. He has said that growing up in Kilbarchan he like his pals followed deidco until he was old enough to understand what their support was really like and so turned tae us. He is also a lifetime member of the CND which would go down nicely in an area formerly known as “Little Moscow”.

Bonhill Parish Church in the 50s had a minister there who it is reckoned paisley modeled himself on, a demagogue and brought the tangerine walks tae the Vale. The Rev Miller a good man apart fae supporting us is a breath of fresh air since then.

Incidentally if my memory serves me well there was an Icelandic minister who would fly in tae see us at one time.

Edinburgh was mental in the 80s. The smack problem was colossal. I stayed in Iona Street off Easter Road for 2 years around 1983 and it was easier to buy a £10 wrap than it was to get a pint of milk.

Also some of the worst football violence I ever saw – which is saying something – was around that wee metal bridge at the back of Easter Road.

The Hibs Casuals were a nasty, nasty lot.
