Howe, Falkirk with a grievance

368

You and I have seen enough of the football business to know that even when someone verbally commits to joining Celtic, we should assume nothing.  Eddie Howe wanted his next destination to be an English Premier League city, not Glasgow.  Right now, the Bat Signal is lighting the clouds, anyone who wants to secure English football’s best young manager had better make their move over the weekend.  This is how football works, so let’s not get carried away.

If he arrives, it will be an appointment at the higher end of expectations, compare and contrast to Man City youth coaches who have never been in charge of a dressing room full of adults.  Or even Roy the Intense.

Having filtered through so many possibilities in recent weeks, I can find fault with every one of them, even Brendan Rodgers, who is clearly the best manager in British football right now, did not get a tick in the box when it came to recruitment.  We will critically assess Howe if and when he becomes Celtic manager. For now, let’s just hope we get our man.

Falkirk are atop the third tier and nurse a grievance from a year ago, when they were pipped to promotion by 0.03 of a point per game average by Raith Rovers.  Tomorrow’s Scottish Cup tie has all the hallmarks of an underdog fully motivated against an inconsistent giant.  Some of us will remember a comparable freezing cold night 15 years ago when a young Falkirk striker, Anthony Stokes, scored at Celtic Park on his way to a penalty competition victory in the League Cup.  Let’s turn up prepared and hungry this time; I want the Scottish Cup.

Good points both – yep, we all need to put our adult/realist specs on IF he comes in.

To do the job right isn’t just a little 2-yr gig.

Along the way, the exBourne/Burn guy could get Euro experience to nicely embellish his CV.

But will he fall in love w what we love? Will his family love West of Scotch as much as the douce Saff Coast?

Will he withstand the abuse bound to come his way as soon as he rumbles the new club?

    We live in hope.

BTW on COVID; it can be beaten (as Aus and NZ kinda show) This week, been to football, movies and shoaps all with no mask needed. Keep the faith all.

The flying of the Union flag should be compulsory for all schools. If any pupils and teachers have concerns about this then surely they can be “educated” about what the flag actually represents. 🇬🇧 belongs to every single British person.

Enjoyed that clip this morning from 1966 game at Motherwell, that was a very young Peter McCloy in goals for Well

  11. In a slow less quick news day, I thought I would have a wee look back at the archives, in particular, winning the cup in may2019, and the appointment of Neil after the game.

If Ediie Howe, out of work, is the appointment now that most want, why did he barely get a mention in 2019, ?

I was struck by excellent analysis and comment from SFTB, mid page,

    IF he comes……

It’ll be interesting to see if his family come.

I’m really struck by how many top players and coaches (in football and rugby especially) are so far and so long parted from their partners & kids.

I agree that the rebuild will require sustained time to happen properly. Ironically, the more impressive EH’s progress, the greater the risk of a swifter departure, a la BR.

As for falling in love with Celtic, this is where the ‘football without fans’ quote does hold true. This season especially, I’ve been conscious of the fact that Celtic park is our Paradise only because we’ve experienced it full and crackling with anticipation. Empty, less so. Hamilton away, with Sainsbury’s as your backdrop, much less so.

Both governments have made an arse of it over here ,Toronto and Peel region have the most lockdown days in North America and in my opinion this new so called lockdown by Ford is not going to help. The people who need it the most are not getting it unless they listen to Dr. Brown.

Not be having a pint any time soon at the club. Got my first vax a week ago and #2 in 4 months.🏌🍻

  19. Tim Horton don’t be too quick tae blame the federal government, you’ll find that most of the provinces that are struggling have Tory premiers.

As for the latest stunt by the clown at Queens Park, it’s no a lockdown, just a shutdown. Unless he closes the schools it wullnae work.

It’s now pretty clear that breathing is the biggest cause of transmission for this sometimes-deadly, often-debilitating disease.

So unless you plan to hold your breath for the rest of your life or never meet anyone again in an indoor space, not taking the vaccine risks not only your life, but the lives of others.

I don’t want to get into a political argument with you as we differ on parties but the NDP leader is not what i would want to run my province, she would have Ontario broke same as the last one and Troooodo dont get me started on that corrupt regime never mind the balls up on Covid see GSK.
