If this is the acceptable standard, SFA are welcome to it

Our man on the inside, Charlie Green, seems to have upset a few people over the weekend.  Charlie was playing to the gallery with his “bigotry” comment; it is not credible that the 35 clubs who voted against providing Sevco access to an elevated league are demographic significantly different from those of Rangers (1872/3).  Although, there is a good chance that each of those 35 clubs will have a more mixed profile than the former club.

Green is still fending off interest from people with far greater pull with the Rangers (1872/3) support than he has (genuinely hope he succeeds here).  He needs to sell tens of thousands of tickets to prevent his new club slipping into the hands of one of the other consortiums still trying to buy a piece of the action.  I always caution Celtic from playing to the gallery, it delivers short term populism but is surely the alternative to a strategic plan. I am sure several clubs will express their alarm at these comments to the SFA.

Unfortunately, since the SFA failed to take action on either of Ally McCoist’s earlier inflammatory outbursts so they can expect more of the same from Green and others.

Attempts are being made to convince thousands of people a bigoted bogeyman has been out to get them.  99% of the target population will do no more than complain loudly but it’s the unpredictable >1% who exist in every community we should be concerned about.

To the best of my knowledge no Scottish club has ever accused others of bigotry, not even during ‘that’ 80 year period.  If this is the new acceptable standard, the SFA are welcome to it, but it will be better for all if we go elsewhere to play our football.  Our game has been potent for a century but it has now become dangerously unstable.

Let us go now, before this is whipped up any more.  Anyone wanting to hold Scottish football together in its current form has a lot of explaining to do.

THE SPL was last night on the brink of clinching a new £13million-a-season broadcast deal.

But it won’t be officially signed until just 24 hours before Saturday’s big kick-off. Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell was in London yesterday with SPL counterpart Neil Doncaster putting the finishing touches to the contract with Sky and ESPN bosses.

Talks were ongoing last night about the length of deal, with suggestions it might be five or SEVEN.

It’s understood Sky will show 30 matches per season and ESPN 35, with the new Rangers being shown live a minimum of 15 times in Division Three.

The SFL have negotiated a £1m deal for those rights, leaving around £12m to be shared among the Premier League clubs.

The proposal will now be put in front of the SPL chairmen at a meeting on Friday, where they are expected to vote it through on the same day that Charles Green’s new Gers are finally handed SFA membership.

I thought it was 3-4-2-1 (Hooper and Commons behind Brozek, replaced by Tony Watt). It changed towards the end, but for much of the game Paddy was central.

    Many Happy Returns, Sean.

You are the very epitome of that sometimes misused phrase, ‘Celtic Hero’.

In your case there is no exaggeration.

NOBODY in the club’s history gave more of himself, or gave it so selflessly.

You were a rock of a defender, & though you were no Jimmy McGrory, you gave everything you had when Sir Bob decided to make you a striker.

You put the supposed ‘hard men’ of the time firmly in their place as though you were swatting flies.

A hard man, a modest man, a gentle man, a respectful man.

    A special Celt.

    Thank You.

Is that why Goian was so rotten on Sunday? He could not see for the tears in his eyes.

  6. CelticWiki:

Sean’s Celtic story began quite literally, by an accident. The son of the Celtic legend Jimmy McMenemy (Joe McMenemy) saved Fallon’s sister, Lilly, from drowning at Lough Gill. Fallon invited Joe McMenemy back to his house and the Scot returned the compliment by sending Sean presents of a Celtic shirt and Willy Maley’s book “The Story of the Celtic”.

Sean Fallon started his football career with St. Mary’s Juniors and also played Gaelic football for Craobh Ruadh. He also played for McArthurs, Sligo Distillery and Longford Town before he arrived at the Showgrounds in 1947 to play for Sligo Rovers. He then joined Glenavon in the north before impressing Celtic F.C. with his performance for the Irish League against the League of Ireland.

Sean continued to play soccer in Ireland, eventually finding himself at Glenavon – where he finally succeeded in doing what he was aiming to do all along – impressing Celtic. He was signed and made his debut in the last game of the 1949-1950 season – when Celtic were still drawing themselves away from the doldrums which had almost saw them relegated. The following year, Sean had helped them to win The Scottish Cup in the McPhail Final against Motherwell. In 1952 he was made Captain of Celtic.

“I was just an ordinary player with a big heart and a fighting spirit to recommend me.” – Sean Fallon.

Don’t think so mate. Yes he was central for almost the entire game but, only in my opinion, he played that floating role behind the front two who were Hooper and Brozek with Commons on the left.

Again just my opinion but the reason that Commons appeared centrally at times was more to do with indiscipline than tactics, Lenny was out gesticulating with him on more than one occasion.

Sean Fallon, one of my dad’s favourites.

‘He once played with a broken leg, son’.

Possibly a slight exaggeration but still a good story.

He must have been amongst the hardest men to have played for the Club.

  9. So am I right in saying that The Rangers Football Club can only trace their history back to their founding company Sevco Scotland Limited.

THE Board is delighted to confirm that the official name of the company that owns Rangers is being changed to The Rangers Football Club Limited.

This process was completed following an Extraordinary General Meeting of ‘oldco’ shareholders today when procedures were approved that enable Sevco Scotland Limited to change its name to The Rangers Football Club Limited.

Charles Green, Chief Executive of The Rangers Football Club, said, “The process that took place today is the penultimate piece of the jigsaw that will see The Rangers Football Club move forward, with the transfer of SFA membership being the final piece.

“As every fan knows, Rangers is Rangers – it always has been and it always will be. The Club still has its 140 years of history and we are now embarking on the next 140 years.”

He broke his collar bone against Hearts (53-54). He was off for 20mns but came back on wearing a sling to complete the game. No subs in those days!

  11. hamiltontim

The game started with Ki and Ledley in the middle, Matthews and Izaguirre out wide in front of 3 defenders, Commons and Hooper behind Brozek. Paddy replaced Ki in the 41st minute. Lustig came on in the 77th minute and they went 4-4-2 with Paddy on the left, Hooper and Watt up front.

  14. so charlie green will have to explaine his comments to the sfa

they not even have full membership and they think they are back at the top after 1 game at brechin

what about the sevco fans behaviour at brechin ?

got chatting to two sevco fans at work

they said that all the spl teams will suffer and will miss their fans

and that the spl will be boring with a 1 horse race

just had to point out that the 2 horse buissness model did not work were 1 team defrauded the tax payer of over £100 million pounds just to even compete

and as for missing sevco fans ,most of the teams fans threatened to boycott their own stadiums if they played there

thus they did not even want to be in the same place as them ever

procceded to tell them their last 2 owners ran them into the ground and how

    long would it take charlie

Quite a few of the Arsenal blogs seem to be getting very excited about our Victor. £10 Million and a cut of any future transfer fees and they can have him. When you have only played one season and start talking about moving on, your heart is not going to be in it when push comes to shove.

    —————-

Sadly that is going to be the way of it more money and a better profile available down south, But we found him and I am sure there are gems out there waiting to be picked up. £10m would be a great return although if we get into the CL group would like the boy to stay for one more season. May even push his price up.

Although a different type of player would like to see what Ibrahim could do in a competitive game.

  16. I’m back in the country for my usual summer visit to see my familyand as 1 of my sons is now staying in Glagow (Parkhead) I went down for the weekend. We were able to go to the game. I havent been to Glasgow for many years.

I’ve come online at the last post so havent read before,so apologies if repeating subject.

We arrived 10 minutes before kick off as visiting a friend,we got into the match 5 minutes before half time. Bad enough for us but even worse for the many who had already bought their tickets and only had to pick them up.Would we have got in at all if the crowd had been larger as Celtic hoped and expected??

Disapointed and annoyed at the time but also delighted to have been and seen.

Not as annoyed as I am at Green’s rant and even more so at the Rangers “official” stating they would be back in a couple of years stronger and healthier with no debt unlike the rest (my words taken from red top),a truly disgraceful statement if correct.
