Impose a player on the manager or pay up

422

The Barton issue: it seems bizarre to suspend a player for four weeks after an incident, more so to extend that by a further week immediately before a clear-the-air meeting, but it’s not.

This has got nothing to do with the player. Whatever he did with a team-mate in the aftermath of our 5-1 win a month ago has nothing to do with his continuing suspension. Nor is the player’s subsequent charge for gambling on football.

I’m pretty sure it’s not even about money, or the player’s lack of ability. This is about the manager and his board. Who authorised his signing in the summer and on what basis was he employed? Warburton has played his hand by passing the issue up to his board. The board can try to impose the player on the manager, again, or they can find the money to make the problem go away.

Or maybe the manager will go instead.

  1. Why is there a lack of any real coverage of the bombing of a funeral in Sanaa in which at least 140 human beings were killed?

    Is it because

    A) Those killed aren’t from the correct side?

    B) Those responsible are from the correct side?

    C) The apparatus used in the attack could’ve came from the £3.3 billion worth of arms the UK has sold to Saudi Arabia since the conflict in Yemen began?

    D) All of the above?

I can’t imagine the coverage would have been the same if it had been 140 Americans or Brits or French or Germans who had lost their lives. And imagine the news if Russia had been responsible?

Maybe when we start reporting every loss of human life with the same attention we’ll know things are looking better.Until then it’s no more than a sick game and all sides (Yanks,Russians,Left,Right,Blue,Red) can go fuck themselves.

May the families of those affected by this atrocity, and the folk stuck in the middle of the ongoing carnage, find the strength to see them through. One love.

    Tontine Tim,

Thanks for the acknowledgement re John Jack.

Am I right in saying that he was our CH in the 4-4 cup tie v them at Celtic Park?

The game where Johnny Hubbard scored a last minute penalty equaliser and we beat them 2-0 in the replay.

I think Shearer virtually ended John Higgins’ career that afternoon.

  4. My friends in Celtic,

If taxi drivers really know everything, then the ” Rangers” v Celtic game will be moved from Hogmanay to the Monday night.

    We shall see.

If it does get moved into the New Year it will not be at the behest of the SFA, the SPFL, PoliceScotland or the Scottish government in Edinburgh, (whose leader incidentaly represents Govan), none of whom so much as raised any hint of opposition to the scheduling of the match.

Or Celtic Football Club for that matter.

  11. Babasonico @ 6.46pm: Re the Sanaa funeral atrocity.

I don’t buy newspapers anymore but my wife gets the (Irish) Mail on Sunday. Just had a quick glance through it and very few articles on international events. The continuing onslaught of Aleppo is featured on P.32 with much coverage of trivial news stories preceding it.

A sad reflection of the world we live in today.

Fair play to you for highlighting this.

  12. Bhoys, I too watched the Bbc news about strikes in Sanaa, absolutely horrific.

You may also want to take into account that it was the US Air Force, supported by the RAF who ended the ceasefire in Syria, by attacking and killing over 100 Syrian soldiers, before it was so much as three days old.

HUNDERBIRDS ARE GONE on 6TH OCTOBER 2016 10:21 PM

As I hauled my shivering carcass through the front door, I was stopped in my tracks by the luxurious and welcoming aroma of roasting Sumatran coffee beans. I sat at a table by the window, looking on to the façade of the famous stadium, bathed in the weak October sun.

“Usual?” Asked the young waiter, smiling at me.

“Please” I answered, returning his smile.

I rested my hands on the quality linen table cloth, as I warmed up and looked around. There was the usual kind of crowd in. Some fans, some locals, the old guy who always sat on his own, at the same seat. A group of women in their twenties were animated and hysterically laughing at something or other. Two serious looking bespectacled men, both wearing fawn coloured sweaters, were furiously concentrating on the chessmen laid out on the board before them, as they sipped their drinks.

The waiter returned with my order. Cortado Coffee, apple strudel, scented with cinnamon and a glass of Cognac. As I sipped the comforting coffee, I looked around at the images on the walls. They told the story of the club, my club, from heroes that were before my time, McGrory, Gallagher and Malley, through the Lisbon Lions that I watched on small black and white televisions, as a wide-eyed youngster, to today’s stars, carrying the flame for the Celtic support.

I felt at home in this place. My daughter arrived, weighed down with the trophies of her assault on the shops. It was great to see her. I ordered her Capuchino and well-fired roll and square sausage that she always had. She touched the replica European Cup that was on the shelf near our table.

    “For luck” she smiled.

The waiter approached us and WOO WAAH WOO WHAA WOO WHAA WOO………………..

………..WTF? Oh no, that’s the alarm. Got to get up for work and……….

……… OH NOOOOOO. IT WAS A DREAM. THEY HAVEN’T BUILT ALMORE’S CAFÉ YET. :)))

  22. CELTIC MAC…

That was the goodies killing the baddies, though. That’s ok.The goodies bombs aren’t as evil as the baddies. If you get blown up by the goodies bombs it’s a much easier experience than when the baddies do it.Killing people horribly is a more ethical form of murder than killing them really horribly.

    It’s a disgrace.

Control the media and you control the masses, they think they can do as they please… and they can :(

We are a nation of headline readers.

I’ve got to the age where I can’t effectively fight it so I blank it out as it’s just too stressful.

Terrible admission and I’m ashamed of myself, but us ordinary mortals need leadership and I just don’t see it anywhere.

Corbyn is an honest man but unfortunately not politically astute enough it seems.

Maybe my children will see a revolution where the heightened selfishness inherent in society these days will be curtailed.

Jobo, my wife and I drove through the village earlier today. We got to the roundabout at the junction with Westmains Road.

At the war memorial across from the roundabout , plenty of peepul with orange sashes and the accompanying flute band were performing there.
