Improvements clear two weeks on from home Astra game

2373

It’s a bit frustrating being so close to qualification for the knock out stages last night before a momentary lapse cost us late in the game, but there were plenty of positives.  60 minutes into last month’s game at Celtic Park against Astra, taking four points from them looked very ambitious.  We played considerably better last night in the corresponding home game, or in the home game against Dinamo Zagreb.

Celtic are functioning better in midfield, while defensively they’re also looking solid.  We acknowledged some weeks ago that without Guidetti or Commons we would struggle to create and execute chances, and so it proved.

With Anthony Stokes also out the picture, Leigh Griffiths got the nod to replace Stefan Scepovic and instantly brought some drive to the forward line.  He was unfortunate that his ‘goal’ was disallowed for a debatable infringement, but he just brings the kind of purpose inside the box that we didn’t have until his arrival.

We’re now four games unbeaten in this competition, and we’re improving.  The evidence suggests that Salzburg have also improved since we took a point from them on match day one.  Last night’s result in Zagreb was impressive, but Salzburg will face their stiffest test of the group at Celtic Park.

Still fancy our chances of winning the group.

The classic defence – “It wasn’t me! ”

A police officer has appeared in court accused of stealing almost £53,000 in cash that belonged to the Northern Ireland Court Service.

PC Bryan Thomas Stronge, whose address was given as C/O Tennent Street police station, west Belfast, pleaded not guilty at Belfast Crown Court.

He denied stealing money that was to have been transferred to the Northern Ireland Court Service.

The theft was alleged to have taken place between 2009 and 2012.

The police officer’s barrister told the court: “My client denies taking the money. My client is saying: ‘It wasn’t me’.

“Where the money went to, well that’s a mystery,” the barrister added.

The defence team has employed a forensic accountant to examine a large number of documents in the case.

The barrister said the accountant would examine “how the money was processed at Antrim Road PSNI station before going to the court service”.

The judge a trial date had been set for 16 March, 2015 and the hearing was expected to last up to two weeks.

PC Stronge, 52, was released on continuing bail to await the start of his trial.

A man and a woman were sitting beside each other in the first class section of an airplane.

The woman sneezed, took out a tissue, gently wiped her nose, then visibly shuddered for ten to fifteen seconds.

The man went back to his reading. A few minutes later, the woman sneezed again, took a tissue, wiped her nose, then shuddered violently once more.

Assuming that the woman might have a cold, the man was still curious about the shuddering. A few more minutes passed when the woman sneezed yet again.

As before, she took a tissue, wiped her nose, her body shaking ever >more than before.

Unable to restrain his curiosity, the man turned to the woman and said, “I couldn’t help but notice that you’ve sneezed three times, wiped your nose and then shuddered violently. Are you OK?”

“I am sorry if I disturbed you, I have a very rare medical condition; whenever I sneeze I have an orgasm.”

The man, more than a bit embarrassed, was still curious. “I have never heard of that condition before” he said. “Are you taking anything for it?”

The woman nodded, ” Yay Pepper.”

Even better one – “It’s not me!”

A man who robbed a hairdresser at which he was a regular customer has been jailed for six years for the raid and for another at a Co-op shop.

Jailed alongside Stephen Brown, 29, for their part in the robbery of the Co-Op store were Jonathan Briers, 31, and 36-year-old Robert Black.

Briers was jailed for five years and Black for three and a half years.

The shop, at Ballysillan Road in north Belfast, was robbed in January of last year.

The court had earlier heard that while Black remained outside the shop as look-out, Brown and Briers, with their faces covered and carrying 10-inch knives, went into the shop and demanded money.

Prosecuting lawyer David McClean said staff handed over cash from the till, but one of the men later threatened to cut a duty manager’s throat and repeated the threat to a customer who had challenged them as they left.

The trio were arrested within hours of the incident when police received information about their whereabouts.

Officers raided a property and, uncovered the cash and a knife hidden in clothing belonging to Briers.

    ‘It’s not me’

The lawyer told the court of further incidents involving Brown six months later when, again masked and carrying a large knife, he robbed £120 from Silk Hair Design on the Ballyclare Road in Glengormley, tried to rob a Mace store on the Glebe Road and also stole a lottery scratchcard from there.

Mr McClean said that in relation to the hair salon, despite the fact that his face was covered, staff recognised Brown as he was a regular customer and had had his hair cut there two weeks earlier.

One of the hairdressers told him he would be caught and that “we know who you are” but he replied “it’s not me” and made off with the cash.

While Briers, from Cherryhill Road in Dundonald and Black, from Lendrick Street in Belfast pleaded guilty to a single count of robbery Brown, from Susan Street, also in Belfast, pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery, one attempted robbery and a further charge of theft.

In jailing the trio, Judge Gordon Kerr QC ordered Brown and Black to serve half their sentences in custody and half on supervised licence while Briers was ordered to spend two years in jail and three on licence.

Tend to agree. I get the impression he thinks that if we keep up the same (high?) tempo throughout the game, and keep pressing, we will control the whole 90 mins and not offer an opportunity for the other side to gain a foothold. But we don’t seem able to do this. The players appeared tired in the 2nd half last night. So in fact it appears to be counter-productive.

Re. Res,12 I admire the guys involved with this, but not sure what final outcome is hoped for.

Accountability, regardless of what emerges. Sending a message to SFA that supporters determined to get answers have the avenue through their clubs AGM process the means of getting answers they could not get before. Better than that would be putting accountability in easier reach of supporters at large than it is at present, an overseeing Ombudsman for example

Are the findings going to be presented to the S.F.A. Yes

and what if they simply ignore it, as they know they broke the rules by giving oldco. a license to play in Europe. What leverage can be used against them, I doubt the S.M.S.M. would be interested as it involves their favourites. Please excuse my ignorance. Good luck with it anyway.

Thanks for the support. That possibility of ignoring us exists, but one avenue would be to by pass the SFA and take papers to UEFA saying SFA refuse to answer but UEFA have the power to get answers. It would help if Celtic were to support this action if it is needed. Keeping the issue domestic is a form of leverage on SFA. We do not actually know if they know they broke the rules. They do not know what we think we know. They might have a satisfactory explanation and if so should provide it in their interests.

Extremely frustrated at this point, he shows the picture to the third blonde and in a very testy voice asks, “Now think hard before giving me a stupid answer. This is your suspect, how would you recognize him??”

Old Firm Game Will Make Or Break New Regime

So we finally got it. An old firm game. It’s not just any old firm game though, it’s one that has been anticipated since Sunday 29th April 2012 when the hoops dominated a team that were on the way down to the root of Scottish football. But it’s not just the time gap that makes this game probably the most important ever, it is also a semi-final which could lead to Ronny Deila and his side wining at least one domestic cup this season.

When the news came through that Celtic would be meeting Rangers at the end of January or the start of February in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden, every hoops fan would have been jumping with joy and quite rightly so, the players were jumping for joy in the dressing room after the win over Inverness at Paradise. It has now become the game of the season and the very prospect of having it just on the horizon makes you realise just how much you have missed it.

Both sides will go into the game with little old firm experience, although six of the players who featured that day in April 2012 are still in the Celtic squad. The January transfer window will be important in order for Ronny to strengthen the squad with the derby game in mind, it does have that much importance on the season and for the fans.

The fact that we will most likely have European football after Christmas also adds a different dimension to this season, which almost no one would have seen coming a few months ago. When Celtic were knocked out the Champions League and had a poor run of form at the start of the season it felt like this season would drag in and be very frustrating, but if the team can make us proud by getting out of the Europa League group stage and getting a victory at the national stadium against our rivals then this season will be a very successful one for a manger still adapting to Celtic Life.

The build-up and hype to this game will be intense and that’s what we love about the old firm derby. We already have a war or words on our hands with the Championship club not believing that the one and only John Guidetti will sink the boot into them (which we all know is a certainty).

It is only just beginning of a story that will dominate the season form here on in, the fans live and breathe these games, the depravation over the last two and a half years is exactly the flammable material that will ignite the world’s biggest and most fearsome rivalry back into life.

Eldest son thinks a little and replies:

    – Why not? Imagine what I could do with that money. So yes, I would sleep with him

On the wording I would remove the words that say Dundee were not promoted on sporting merit. Dundee supporters could argue they got second place on sporting merit and that would just deflect from the statement. Removing just those words still makes your point.

Having read it and seen the response that any mention that they are a different club generates from their extreme elements I think we could be accused of pouring petrol on an event we would rather not take place because the circumstances in which it is doing so is combustible enough already.

What sickens me is the desire of our media to ignore what amounts to totally unacceptable behaviour to in effect line their own pockets, the reinstatement of the bigot pound to provide financial impetus to Scottish Football.

Maintaining or promoting the same club myth is a manifestation of the above not the underlying motivation.

I would rather an advert addressed the behaviour and motivation of our smsm in using sectarianism to sell papers and attract listeners to the cost of Scottish Society as a whole. We could use what they have ignored since CF first started leaks 16 months ago as evidence of their motivation. The hard evidence that supports the narrative are all there.

We will never stop TRFC supporters believing what they want to believe but we can put our media in the court of public opinion and get a trial started.

I’ll post next some notes after attending a Conference in Edinburgh on Sectarianism before the OB bill a couple of years back that touch on the media role.
