International break gives Brendan valuable scouting opportunity

303

Remember when Celtic couldn’t keep a clean sheet? Saturday’s 3-0 win against Inverness was our sixth domestic shut out since Craig Gordon returned to the team after Dorus de Vries injured himself attempting to stop that incredible goal Kilmarnock scored on 24 September.

To put that into some kind of perspective, it took the 20 domestic games before that run started to collate six clean sheets, stretching back to Morton’s visit on 6 March. The longest domestic clean sheet run we achieved last season was three games. Say what you like about the goals from Moussa and Scott Sinclair – and we’ve been spectacularly impressive in attack – but this is a runaway championship because of Celtic’s defensive record.

And what a runaway it is. Remember when we were told we needed the competition we’d see this season? Aberdeen started with a poor five games and we discover there’s not competition at all. There is no competition worthy of the name, just scintillating football, and the stands are fuller than they’ve been in years. We’ll take a look at the rest of the league later in the week.

Brendan Rodgers will spend the international break scouting footballers, his team isn’t finished by a long shot. Usual caveats apply, January is a difficult month, etc., no guarantees targets will want to come, or be available, in January or the summer, but a lot of plans are underway right now for next season’s Champions League.  There are absolutely no detectable plans for dealing with the domestic challenge.

In case you haven’t noticed, we’re in November, winter is upon us and for many, a time of crisis looms. Watch this message from Brendan and the players – they are speaking to you and me.

TURKEYBHOY, just looked at their fixtures:

    Dundee home

    Thistle away

    Hearts away

    Aberdeen home

    Hearts home

    Hamilton away

    ICT home

    St J away

I would expect them to drop somewhere between 8 and 12 points in those games so we could have a massive lead (with a game in hand still) when we pump them again.

    Cheers dude!

  3. I know this will make me seem greedy but I wish we had managed to get at least another three goals v ICT. They deserved a trouncing for their “style ” of play.

They then had cheek to complain about one player not getting a foul and another being injured.i think it was Brian rice who was berating the referree at the end.

Referee was absolutely hopeless by the way. Apart from wrong decisions and non decisions he also got in the way of players during game.

“Hey, Paul – Dave here. Just looking for a catch-up on what’s been happening since I last jetted in. Tell me, what happened to the ‘Going For 55’ mugs?”.

“Oh – they’re still turning up Dave. For now anyway”.

“No no – not them. I meant the actual mugs. The coffee mugs.”

“Oh I see. Sorry. Been marking them down, but I think we still have a couple of thousand left.”

“What do you think we should do with them?”

“Well I guess we could try and flog them off at 20p. Either that or shove them in the cupboard and get them out again for next season.”

“Next season??? Splutter. Hmmmm. Do you reckon we would get away with making it a 55 points thing? That’s still a decent achievement for a four year old club playing its first season in the top league.”

“Yeah, but Dave, remember we’re supposed to still be the same club.”

    “Same club as who?”

    “Err same Rangers, Dave.”

“Oh aye that’s right, of course. Otherwise we wouldn’t have the other mugs, would we? Ha ha.

I know, I know. Same club since 1882, holding company died and all that. blah-di-blah.”

    “1872, Dave.”

“Yeah yeah. Whatever. Come on Paul – it’s guff anyway. What does it matter if it’s accurate guff or inaccurate guff?”

“Well actually Jim says it’s really important we try to…”

“Okay, okay. Jim says. Is there nobody else around there that can make decisions?

    “Erm, not really, no.”

“Anyway, why did we get so many in the first place?”

“Not sure Dave. I think we thought we’d be challenging all season and we’d keep selling them.”

“Crikey – did we really? I thought I told everybody top two. There was a bit of a clue there. Do people not take me on my word?”

    Silence.

    “Paul?”.

“Yeah, course they do Dave. But Jim thought we’d sell more season tickets if it looked like we were going to be challenging. And we needed the season ticket money to pay the bills.”

“Bills? What bills do we pay?”

    “Err, well…. Jim’s?…..”

    “Ah, right.

Could we not give a few out to some journos in exchange for pro-Rangers stories?”

“Well we don’t really need incentives for that, do we? Anyway, those guys all bought one at full price.”

“20p then, you reckon? Sigh. Let’s go with that then.”

  6. PS, I meant to add that I also enjoy the obvious love of Celtic on here fro most posters.

I respect those who may crictise sometimes the manner in which our club is run by the board etc, as I have did over the years long before I was aware of this fans site . However, it is obvious to me that there are some who never seem to have a good word to say about the running of Celtic, which is rather annoying IMO ?

As the old saying goes, ” you can’t please all of the people all of the time” ?

Many times for decades, I have watched a Celtic game which some fans along side me appear to be watching a completely different game ?

As for the workings behind the scenes, I too get very frustrated on occasions in relation as to whether the Celtic board are making the right decisions over certain matters and ongoing events.

The ” issue” if you like on whether Celtic FC should be more active in highlighting the ” honest mistakes” by the MIB from one season to another, is an issue that I would wish Celtic to address more sterniously in the public domain ? Who cares if we are viewed as being”Paranoid” even more than we are already, as the club and the Celtic fans are being cheated every other week IMO.

On that ” Paranoid” theme, it is highly amusing especially for older Celtic fans like myself, who are witnessing the management and fans of the Dead club on a daily basis, screaming and stamping their feet at the so called unfair manner in which their club is treated on and off the pitch.

This paranoia from Sevco FC and their fans is simply something that I thought I would never witness, mainly due to the fact that in all my long lifetime, oldco and now Newco literally get away with murder !

Until four years ago, as many older Celtic fans may agree, that so called football club really had it there own way for decade after decade. Because of that fact, they were hardly ever accused of being paranoid, as most matters went their way.

It still happens, as I strongly believe that they were NOT punished for their crimes in 2012.

As I have often said to friends since a lot of their financial cheating came to light, ” If that had been Celtic FC cheating the taxman etc, that club and their fans would have been screaming for those Fenian rebels to be locked up in the tower for TREASON” !

I can still hear them now, demanding that Celtic FC be wiped off the face of the earth, for our crimes against her feckin Majesty !

As for the Celtic boards view of Sevco etc, whilst I appreciate that perhaps Celtic are in a difficult position when it comes to oldco & Sevco matters, and are fearful of being seen as instigating further investigations especially when it comes to stripping that mob of league titles and cups, I live in hope that perhaps one day that day WILL come ?

Don’t let there be any Celtic fans under any illusions, if we had did what they done, I have no doubt whatsoever that the establishment would have had us punished as much as possible !

When Celtic were on our knees in the 1990s, I don’t recall much sympathy from the establishment, the bank or indeed from oldco, when we almost went bust !From their fans that I knew at that time, they were ready to celebrate the complete demise of Celtic FC.

So if we win all our games (perfectly reasonable expectation) then we would be on 55 points when we play them.

Too good to be true?…..but then again, wouldn’t it marvellous Happy Days Are Here Again!

  8. Between March 27th and April 30th 1909, Celtic had to play 14 games. Goal posts didn’t shift back then, they danced to the tune. 35 days 14 games. These days the goalposts just try to get out of the way.

If we get into the Europa League we will have got there by pulling out one, maybe two, truly exceptional results in the games coming up against truly exceptional teams, on top of what we have achieved already against Gladbach and Man City.

“Sneaking” does not come into it in any way.

VFR, ” poster Bhoy” ? In yer dreams mate ! Lol.

I have had a bit of a tough time recently, and although I’ve still been reading the posts on here, I have been having to attend to certain legal matters ( ongoing) !

Living alone, with one or two health problems, I can be guilty of feeling a wee bit sorry for myself now and again, and shy away from folk etc ?

Just a wee idea, IF Celtic winning at their midden means we have 55 points, wouldn’t it be great if we only accepted 55 tickets beforehand meaning that they would still have to pay the costs of police and stewards etc, but would be denied the full month if away ticket money from Celtic fans ?

    Just a thought.

    Hail, Hail Bhoys and ghirls.

Barcelona and Brazil footballer Neymar should face trial for fraud, a Spanish judge has said, months after the case was dismissed.

The case was reopened on Monday, brought by investment fund DIS, which claims it was short-changed during Neymar’s 2013 move to Barcelona.

The fund formerly owned the transfer rights to the 24-year-old.

The charges – which are denied by the accused, including Neymar and his parents – were dropped in July.

Judge Jose de la Mata was ordered to reopen the case in September by Spain’s Supreme Court.

DIS, which was entitled to 40% of Neymar’s transfer from Brazilian club Santos, claims it received a smaller compensation than it should have because part of the transfer fee was allegedly concealed.

As well as the footballer, whose full name is Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, and his parents, the former and current club presidents, Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu and the club itself stand accused of involvement, according to Spanish news agency EFE.

Since moving to the Nou Camp, Neymar has won two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, the Champions League, the European Super Cup, the Spanish Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

He signed a new five-year contract with Barcelona in October.

Barcelona have already been told to pay a fine of 5.5m euros ($6.1m; £4.7m) because of tax irregularities in Neymar’s transfer.

Prosecutors now have 10 days to formalise their request for a trial.

  18. On the previous thread someone suggested that Dallas junior is a Celtic supporter.

I have no clue or do i care if this is true.

The continual favoring and pandering to the present and previous huns by our football authorities sets the tone for referees.

It is a chosen and seems quite lucrative career so referees understand how to further themselves in this environment.

A country that also has a historical pro protestant and anti catholic bent is also an indicator of how a subjective decision will be perceived.

The mssm and their pandering to the society that is their customer also have an impact.

Their exaggeration of any decision in Celtics favour and downplaying of blatant calls against allows the ref an understanding of whats the better career path.

While there are signs of bias the art of self preservation is in play.

  19. VFR – looking at that fixture list the funniest thing for us is that they could drop points/lose in any of them. There are no easy games for them in the SPL.

And it would be kinda funny if we were on 52 points going in to the game against them – Celtic going for 55!

    They just get more ridiculous.

Broonie is still correct – our closest rivals are Aberdeen. Hearts will be kicking themselves with their inconsistent form. St Johnstone are capable of a good run. The Sevco could finish anywhere from 3rd to 5th in my opinion. 2nd would be a massive achievement- seriously. But the dons are not stamping their authority as yet on the rest of the league.
