High-risk philosophy of playing with the high press requires committing the entire team to attack, leaving two center backs who have hardly any game time together with the responsibility to defend our defensive third of the pitch, West Ham reveled in that space as will others, I wish Ange the best of luck he will need it if we are going to continue defending with that strategy
My team for Saturday would see a more balanced approach, I would play a 3-4-3

Lots of positives all over the park, and the improvers still very obvious to all of Timdom.

Notwithstanding that you are correct in pointing out the error. If we had seen the game out we would have a 2 goal lead. As it is we have a 2 goal lead.
And the way we played we could easily have a 4 goal lead if Turnbull, Abada and Kyogo in particular had done better.
I’m more happy winning by scoring more goals than the opposition in a high scoring game than winning 1-0.

I know it’s an optical illusion but doesn’t the white (mostly) away strip make the team look faster and leaner.
Also great for contrast when watching on TV

We brought on 3 subs last night, who on paper were every bit as good as what they were replacing.
But what we got was Eddy being his usual disinterested self. Rogic too slow to move the ball on and getting caught in possession.
Only Christie, who I am not a fan of , contributed anything. Whether Christie wants away or not . You can’t criticise his effort.

If I’m head of la liga, I don’t want to see Messi leave Spain. I suspect this has some way to go yet.
I couldn’t understand why we turned down an interest free multi million pound loan repayable over twenty years, until I read this;
“ New details of the deals show senior management at the clubs are banned from collecting bonuses and above-inflation pay rises until the money is paid back.”
BADA, could you see Messi educing his salary demands even further and further and ending up playing in Paradise, which he described as one of the best football theatres in the world?

Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on
Good morning all.
Bit of a rollercoaster yesterday but enjoyable nonetheless.
Let’s get the negatives out of the way first
(as a courtesy to the troller who has taken up residence – he can scroll past the rest).
Defensive set up (back 7) poor.
I have a sneaky suspicion Ange is partly challenging them to suffer a little while THEY figure it out – rather than compromising his attacking instincts with a tighter formation.
Attack to Defence transition.
Inverted full backs are all wonderful.
But if play breaks down in midfield unexpectedly … we need them to be very fast and fit to get back deep AND wide quickly to get into a defensive set and stop crosses. (Most, not all, of the danger yesterday came from wide positions)
Soro had a poor game. Offered very little protection to an already unstable back four.
Physically we look a bit feeble still. A number of players took standard bangs and got up with that “Mammy, he hit me!” look on their coupons.
Man up. Retaliate first. Collectively get in the ref’s ear.
The positives …..
Gradual increments only but evidence of more trust in Ange’s system. Players are going longer into games before forgetting their drills and reverting to old ways.
Goals out of nothing ( the kind I love).
None of that “bore them to sleep with 60 lateral passes 25-40 yards out” rubbish.
1st – pass, cross, shot, FAST rebound, GOAL
2nd – diagonal run from CB, run, pass, touch, dink, GOAL
3rd – wide guy holds full back deep, onside run, some touches, shot, save, rebound, GOAL
4th – absolutely out of nothing! Low percentage lob forward, cross into an area strongly attacked by Christie. No thinking involved – bang. GOAL.
We’ll score a lot of these this season.
Work to do but promising.
Hail hail

…………………
I was screaming at the telly at that point for us just to hold the ball and retain possession. Just before it Jamesie gave up possession by attempting a first time pass from the wing into their box with the outside of his boot. We keep playing risky passes in the final minutes of games instead of killing the game.
Having said that I am delighted for Ange and the players. We should have scored 8 but to score 4 goals away in Europe is very good. We played some super football but between now and the end of the transfer window, I would spend my money on solid, reliable defenders, 6’ 14.5” tall with a bloody minded attitude. I would then look to strengthen midfield and attack in future windows.

It is very clear that our frontline is now very quick and mobile.
Our midfield is working its socks off.
Neither fullnacks have the physical attributes i.e energy levels or pace to do the job in current system. That is before considering the actual footballing techniques/ skillset required.
Even taking in consideration team shape and style poor positioning at the base of midfield is allowing easy overload out wide I.e. soro is not a natural defensive midfielder who covers gaps left behind by others when the team moves forward, he likes to be more involved. I do like his high energy.
Based on our current signings and the fact I think mccarthy will be able to operate very effectively at the base of the midfield. We still need a leftback, rightback and centreback I’m the door.
That is before anymore players leave I.e. still expect eduard and christie to move on and will need replaced. Think o’connor, connell, henderson, boli and barkas will likely be sold or go on loan too.
Hope the board are listening to Ange, he has not exactly left them in any doubt about his wishes to date.

It would be great if Christie signed an extension. He is (according to articles on Ange) the archetypal Ange player.
Seeing the improvements in CalMac and Christie compared to last season is great. Just shows what competent coaching can do.
Still a huge shopping list imo – 3 additions additions back 4; left winger; one striker (minimum) and another midfielder if we lose Christie.
AngeBall is going to be entertaining, if nothing else!

Not only should Madhun not be allowed anywhere near a hun game, but he should be barred from any contest where his unique style of refereeing would in any way favour the huns, eg by disadvantaging future or existing opponents.
