Jullien early return unlikely. Bolton sign off CVA

516

I doubt that Christopher Jullien was included in our Europa League squad is an indication that he will appear in a Celtic shirt near you anytime soon.  The final group game is three months away, a timeframe that is more likely for Chris to be ready for European action.

The player was a crucial addition to the team that won our ninth successive title, performing memorably heroics in that season’s Europa League group.  His goal in the League Cup Final that season resulted in one of the sweetest Hampden moments in a clutch of several in recent seasons.  You will recall, though, that his early season form in the summers of 2019 and 2020 was far from his best.  He is a player who takes a month longer to get up to match fitness than others.

Having not kicked a ball since December, the work required to get him back to his peak will be considerable.  It will do him no favours to force him into a level of competition he is not ready for.

I was delighted to hear Bolton Wanderers agreed a CVA with creditors two years after going into administration.  Chairwoman Sharon Brittan said; “After a very challenging two years we are absolutely delighted to confirm that the Club has reached agreement with its unsecured creditors.

“This ensures that we have met our obligations, satisfied the EFL requirements and are therefore free of any embargoes and penalties.”

Bolton faced a number of winding-up orders but clung to survival long enough to meet creditors’ requirements.  It is remarkable how few football clubs actually go to the wall, most fans find a way to pay creditors and keep their linage intact.

Some people disagree with you and have friends in high places.

Watch what you say on a public forum about the subject, though.

Could you enlighten us – maybe by use of names as opposed to abuse – as to whose bidding you think SA Somerville is acting on?

  3. GALLAGHER

I concur with SQUIRE DANAHER, your (anyone’s) argument loses potency when you resort to that kind of language, which comes over as abuse for the sake of abuse. And …. using nicknames can seem humorous, but again your reader may be at a loss regarding your references so thus your argument is weakened.

BTW I personally am in general agreement with your original point about child- referencing (I think!?)

  4. “Squire”

The point we were discussing was swearing I think.

There are smaller fringe sites where that is apparently the norm.

We had always said that we’d steer clear of that element.

( the main reason was that the standard of discussions were accessible to the you ng team)

On the point of regulars having lot to say for themselves……..

I’m guessing that’s probably a strong point for a blog?

    Cheers!

    I don’t think we’re disagreeing much here.

I do think though that your “big mooth bullies” term doesn’t necessarily equate to swearing. Plenty of erudite characters on here do not swear and could nonetheless be accused of, shall we say, forceful behaviour.

    I blame international weeks.

    “I blame international weeks”.

100% my good Mhan. Just cannot be bothered with them at all. The only interest I have in them is checking on fitness/injury updates. I just wish the rules allowed us to pull players out of squads without threat of sanctions.

I’d agree that the International weeks don’t help…..

    :)

Again the point I was in discussion around was the point around the ingress of swearies to ThIs Dear Green Place.

We have precious few rules here, which to date have kept Paul’s place where it is.

  8. Sorry but I don’t believe that rubbish about teachers not being allowed to say “Good morning boys and girls.”

Smells to me like the straight bananas and the golliwog made-up garbage from the 1980s.

I saw Tyrannosaurus Rex live at Motherwell Town Hall in 1969. It was a late night (after pub) gig enjoyed by an audience of 50 or so.

Marc and Steve Took sat cross-legged on stage and performed for 2 hours.

Next time I saw them was in the Greens Playhouse. Obviously not the same vibe.

I have to agree with you re ‘Get It On’. One of the best rock songs ever recorded. I still listen to it 50 years on.

  10. First concert I went to was Chuck Berry at Newcastle city hall (i think) early seventies, brilliant, then a few months later at the same venue,Slade supported by the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, what a day lol.

  11. I had a look at the `Boys and Girls` background. As far as I can see, ONE headteacher included it in an overall opinion on bullying and sexism in schools.

On the `boys and girls` bit:

“Sarah Hewitt-Clarkson says the greeting is a ‘slightly strange way of dividing a group of people’ – instead suggesting ‘good morning everyone’ because it is more inclusive.”

    A reasonable point?

Satire is all we have left or am I guilty of thought crime?

The things I could tell you but I’d join Craig Murray in Saughton, dontcha know.

    Just scroll by…..

  13. HOT SMOKED on 9TH SEPTEMBER 2021 11:23 AM

    Fair enough.

But as Tom McLaughlin suggests there are always some right wing media zoomers looking for a “straight bananas” angle.

I wonder what happened to the straight bananas guy?

  14. Tom McLaughlin

Verbally from someone who used to say “good morning boys & girls” until told otherwise.

I only know of boys or girls attending primary schools, please enlighten me if you know of anyone else I’ve missed.

  15. Re PC speech.

As a contractor, I was chastised 3 years ago at work for using the term ‘guys’ when talking to a mixed gender team.

While fuming at being publicly reprimanded, I recognised it as being an authority power-play by a middle manager trying to justify their right-on and responsible credentials.

The team insisted that the term ‘guys’ was totally fine by them and not to bother with the PC police.

Either strange days or I’m just too long in the tooth for it.

  16. QUADROPHENIAN on 9TH SEPTEMBER 2021 11:43 AM

Whenever I hear anyone using the term `guys` to address either females or a mixed group, I tend to think: Well, there is someone easily influenced.

    Cheerio for now.

PS I am not oblivious to the likelihood that growing up in Glasgow, our use of the term `guy` was probably American influenced (unless the Americans copied us :-) ).

  17. HOTSMOKED

    Not following you?

If I say ‘guys’ that’s me buttonholed as being easily influenced by American or Scottish culture?

  18. SQIRE DANAHAR

I wonder what happened to the straight bananas guy.
