I concur with SQUIRE DANAHER, your (anyone’s) argument loses potency when you resort to that kind of language, which comes over as abuse for the sake of abuse. And …. using nicknames can seem humorous, but again your reader may be at a loss regarding your references so thus your argument is weakened.
BTW I personally am in general agreement with your original point about child- referencing (I think!?)

We had always said that we’d steer clear of that element.

I don’t think we’re disagreeing much here.
I do think though that your “big mooth bullies” term doesn’t necessarily equate to swearing. Plenty of erudite characters on here do not swear and could nonetheless be accused of, shall we say, forceful behaviour.

I saw Tyrannosaurus Rex live at Motherwell Town Hall in 1969. It was a late night (after pub) gig enjoyed by an audience of 50 or so.
Marc and Steve Took sat cross-legged on stage and performed for 2 hours.
Next time I saw them was in the Greens Playhouse. Obviously not the same vibe.

First concert I went to was Chuck Berry at Newcastle city hall (i think) early seventies,brilliant,then a few months later at the same venue,Slade supported by the Sensational Alex Harvey Band,what a day lol.
I had a look at the `Boys and Girls` background. As far as I can see, ONE headteacher included it in an overall opinion on bullying and sexism in schools.
On the `boys and girls` bit:
“Sarah Hewitt-Clarkson says the greeting is a ‘slightly strange way of dividing a group of people’ – instead suggesting ‘good morning everyone’ because it is more inclusive.”

I only know of boys or girls attending primary schools, please enlighten me if you know of anyone else I’ve missed.
Re PC speech.
As a contractor, I was chastised 3 years ago at work for using the term ‘guys’ when talking to a mixed gender team.
While fuming at being publicly reprimanded, I recognised it as being an authority power-play by a middle manager trying to justify their right-on and responsible credentials.
The team insisted that the term ‘guys’ was totally fine by them and not to bother with the PC police.
Either strange days or I’m just too long in the tooth for it.

Whenever I hear anyone using the term `guys` to address either females or a mixed group, I tend to think: Well, there is someone easily influenced.

PS I am not oblivious to the likelihood that growing up in Glasgow, our use of the term `guy` was probably American influenced (unless the Americans copied us :-) ).
