Kieran’s premature deadline

300

There is no doubt Kieran Tierney wants to represent Scotland against England at Hampden in 11 days’ time, it will be an occasion to relist for any professional athlete, but this will be a game to far for many after an exhausting season. For Kieran, who suffered a facial injury on Saturday, it is a premature deadline on his recovery roadmap.

Right now, all the player can do is make the right noises and rest. By the middle of next week, he should have an idea what discomfort he is likely to experience at Hampden. Gum shields and masks can help, but a size 5 (or worse) in an injured face is not to be trivialised.

GMS is off and Henderson will be very lucky to find a spot on our bench…

I’m guessing we’ll be looking for a striker at least…

  2. Starry plough.

If we do ( buy a striker) would that not simply mean that we would have two of them outwith the starting eleven each week ?

  3. !!Bada Bing!! on

Bitton will go, Sviatchenko possibly, i have a feeling we will sell Simunovic….

  4. Jim, As you know a good season this year does nor mean a good season next year. Players do lose form, a bad knock can affect them or they could pick up a long term injury.

The other issue is if some EPL Club comes calling waving their cheque books it can turn player’s heads. If a player wants to go, if the money being offered is good, it would be hard for the Club to say no.

I think the time to strengthen is when you are strong. Also lads who do OK in SPFL can be found wanting in European games.

I see 8 or so leaving the panel, maybe 3 buys & a couple of promotions for the like of Ralston, Aitchison & Mikey Johnston.

  5. Bada,

I get that feeling re Jozo as well. Not sure why.

I think Bitton is a player but lacks consistency and that is not as acceptable in a midfielder as it would be in the notoriously fickle nature of wing play.

Svietchenko , I feel, is good for games against the more robust teams we come up against !

    Corkcelt,

I certainly take your point but , as we don`t know who is going to lose form/ be injured, we cannot really plan for it. I felt the general opinion was that we should be buying `quality` and I am not certain that we will gamble on, say, a 10 million pound full-back to replace Lustig , for example.

Anyway, Brendan has show himself to be a superb Manager so far so I will leave it to him!

    Cheerio for now,

  7. The subject of who goes, who stays and who comes in is the standard debate for the close season.

to a large extent it’s a bit of a silly game but without football it’s either that or politics.

  8. Henderson, GMS, O’Connell, Touré, Bitton, Bailly, Ciftci will go.

    Izzy might go.

    De Vries might go.

That’s quite a lot of players already.

I don’t think many more will be allowed to leave.

    True dat neebs.

And today’s news regarding Lord Livingston combines the two…

Which politicians will be leaving and joining? :)

  10. Good list David, you could add Scott Allan & Janko to it as well, with Paddy, Efe & Kris “already gone” that would be a fairly seismic change OK.

However while it’s simple with the guys out of contract it could be difficult with the likes of Ciftci & Allan.

Henderson would be snapped up if we were prepared to let him go, in 3years time we will be looking to buy him back.

Aye that’s what she told me too!

I know there’s a huge love for Griff in the support and I might get hammered for this, I don’t think his all round game is good enough for Europe, he misplaces too many passes, okay against domestic opposition like Caley and Sevco, hammered in Europe.

Ah’m away on the tram to see what other transfer nuggets I can pick up:))

BR will trim the squad for sure as much as possible and quality he’ll always be on the look out for. If Paddy doesn’t come back I would be on the look out for another under the radar Scott Sinclair type signing!

Absolutely, so in no time at all we’ve managed to reel off half the squad! High turn over of players isn’t healthy.

But as you say in your previous post, we are being a little bit silly to try to guess what will happen.

    That link from The Scotsman.

I thought Madden didn’t even give a foul. Am i wrong?

That clown is going on about red card/ yellow card, what about no card/ no foul.

Incidentally the foul on Leigh just before the K.T. incident, that’s a ridiculous decision not to give a foul.

Madden is hopeless, he refs like a nethanderal anything goes, particularly if they have green and white hoops on.

    Hail Hail

I get what you are saying about Griffiths though. Moussa has the more all round package.

None of the players that started on Saturday will be allowed to leave with the exception of Roberts. We will definitely add one centre halve and one winger who can play as a striker type player if we can get one like that. Kouassi will be expected to step up next season. Ralston and Johnston will do preseason with the first team and thereafter we can assess if they will have a part to play. Would expect Ryan Christie to return also. As much as I would like Paddy to stay, we do have a great squad anyway. Two genuine quality additions would leave us looking quite formidable.

  16. We definitely need another striker when you consider we played about half a dozen games during the season without a recognised striker when both Dembele and Griffiths were out injured. We managed to get away with that in SPFL games but wouldn’t be able to get away with that in Europe.

The issue is keeping a 3rd striker happy, it’s hard enough keeping a second striker happy in a team that plays on up top.

  18. Just read the interview with Paul 67th and all I can say is “naughty naughty” Paul 67th for claiming you galvanized the support in 08. If I recall correctly it was Martin42 who began the “stand up for the Champions” campaign. :-)
