Now watch for the Boyd agenda re. postponement of next week’s Aberdeen game to be ramped up.

As Paul wrote a few days ago, the virus, MIBS, media etc. means this season needs to be flawless.

    Today was anything but.

  2. we are all over the place at the back , as a defensive unit we are a mess, you’re having a laugh if you think we have improved.

As Paul wrote a few days ago, the virus, MIBS, media etc. means this season needs to be flawless.

Yeah you are damn tooting, the blogger formerly know as GM.

Too Many Flaws From Start To Finish.

  4. Hunger & attitude missing today and of course a boisterous support, but we knew that. Never go to war without a gun, get it sorted Celtic. Nothing wrong with us being a goal up & shutting up shop instead we have pathetic defending. The result I can live with but not the performance.

  5. Everybody tip toeing around the fact that Eddie was poor and had no intention of mixing it with Works League style defenders,Taylor tidy but no threat,Young James breaking in a new haircut so with the windy conditions he was distracted, and ultimately a waste of a Jersey.

Eddie should have been on as a sub,not a starter,we need to play a team to.handle the opponents and their way of playing

  6. Poor show and 2 points dropped. Personally I do not blame the players, they are too good for these stupid plastic pitches. Only in Scoddland, a joke.

Players of quality do not play well on plastic pitches, fact.

That said, it’s only the second game and we WILL win 10 in a row, guaranteed by me.

Still think we could do with a real creative Modric kinda guy, maybe Karamoko is the bhoy.

    Cheer up

    KINGLuBO

  7. No shape , no urgency , no plan…..teams that work harder than us get a result ….insanity is doing thesma e thing and expecting a different result …we were insane today

  8. good to see the clique backing up each other , but still one or two still to add their tuppence worth of it will be alright night

  9. Not getting too down about the result.

The thing that concerned me was returning to the same formation that didn’t do too

well in the first half against Hamilton.

If you are playing 3 or 4 at the back you have to actually pick players who can play the position properly.

Pick 3 or 4 actual defenders.

Frimpong is a great prospect but in a league of hammer throwers he is no defender.

We need a big Bobo type CH not more forwards

  10. The complacency and entitlement amongst large swathes of the support is not good. Our squad is weaker theres is stronger than last season. Too many players being asked to go to the well again. Even more worrying is this complacency seems to be set inside the club too. This league could be called early again. Club are sleepwalking away from history.

  11. It’ll come down to desire, just like our desire to stop then was greater than their desire to win it. Not quality but desire and desire means grinding out wins on days like today. Or at very least showing some.

  12. Ron67 what do you expect, no 3-5-2 & wait give nonchalant Eddie the ball on his own

to take on about three players @ a time.

Strikers are meant to work off of each other, remember Henke & Sutton, they are

meant to work together, not a lone wolf up front, ffs even Messi the magician finds

it difficult when left on his own.

Fundamentally we lack squad depth and competition. The only part of the park where we are well covered and where competition should be fierce is through the middle: Brown, Ntcham, Soro, McGregor, Christie, Rogic- you can throw in Bitton/Robertson as well should the need arise. However, competition is stymied in this area over Neil’s insistence in playing Broony.

I’m not sure if I would like to learn that Broony was unfit or suffering from an injury today. If he was, that explains his level of performance, but at the same time raises the question of Neil’s judgement in playing an injured player in the area with the greatest depth; if he wasn’t injured, then he should not be starting anytime soon. A lot of people have been advocating for Broony taking a back seat and today further strengthened their position.

You can’t just claim Broony’s ability to drive the team on when we win, you also need to acknowledged it when we draw or lose. I certainly did not see its benefits today and it certainly didn’t outweigh his level of performance.

As for the other areas of the park:

-CB is badly needed. With Jozo gone and Elhamed unlikely to get into double digits in the league, we need a first choice purchased. Bitton was behind Jozo in the pecking order and, as evidenced today, he is behind Elhamed.

-Wingers- we have two senior wingers at the club, JF and ME. Neither have competition for their place. Shved’s Celtic career is over, Dembele is 17- he couldn’t even make it on today when JF was very poor and Mikey is a youth player (yet to complete a full season) who is suffering injury after injury. Even accepting Mikey’s prodigious talent, he managed 21 games last year (was injured during the course of 3 games and subbed off) and will be lucky to hit that total again.

-Strikers- Bayo is just about out the door so down to 3. LG didn’t make a full comeback last year- Lenny said he didn’t have the fitness to play in Europe. He has subsequently returned to training unfit, missed preseason, picked up an injury (I’m sure his lack of fitness didn’t help him) and is now being investigated by the club for an external matter. Are we seriously thinking about relying on LG this year?

Eddy is quality. Klimala is an unknown but looks promising.

While we have a squad of 26, you may as well discount the following due to them being youth players or those so far out in the wilderness that they will not contribute: Hazard, Ralston, Shved, Henderson, Connell, Bayo (now gone). Add in MJ’s injury problems and Neil’s distrust of Boli and Soro and you can see that we are not as well covered as some might think.

While some will gripe, I don’t think the above is an unrealistic appraisal.

  14. AKBW1888

I agree 100% , in this league we should never be playing one man up front , 3 at the back for me also but I do not think we have the quality players in our defence to play this system.

Fundamentally we lack squad depth and competition ……………………..

You are absolutely spot on in your analysis. Not much to add to that.

“but I do not think we have the quality players in our defence to play this system.”

    Spot on.

  17. I’ve been dreading the end of Scott Brown as an influential Celtic player for some time. He’s been an excellent servant and we might not see the likes again for some time.

When BR came in, Brown looked like a man reborn at a time when I thought he was probably past it. Since then, he’s given us an extra few years of sterling performances.

However, he can’t go on forever and plans should’ve been in place for when he starts to slow down.

It pains me to say it but that time is now. He should be used sparingly – rested and sometimes brought on to tighten up a game or close it out.

Problem is, who fits his role? Does Lennon fancy Soro at all? How much longer will Ntcham stay? What’s happened to Rogic?

Looks like Lennon is hoping to milk one more season out of Brown as our main enforcer and this could backfire.

Domestically we should be able to play 3-5-2 I’m not so sure about playing said

system away from home in Europe although we will get more positive results using

said formation domestically for example look @ last Season when we used the

3-5-2 after the Winter break it brought us more positive results

  19. I said at the start of the season that this current squad of players is the poorest we have had in the past 9 seasons and the usual suspects/happy clappers came on to shoot me down as I said previously we have to waken up pronto.

  20. RON67

True. I don’t want to have to rely on Rangers imploding again. And while people demand we throw more money around, I do question the recruitment.

While I won’t jump on the anti-Jullien bandwagon, at £7m can we call this signing a steal? £6m on two left-backs – one looks just about adequate, the other it seems Lennon has seen his mistake in the market.

Shved, Bayo, Soro – who’s signing these players?

Yeah I agree Ron67, it’s about time the Board start to pay back the loyalty the Supporters have

shown over the years being money grabbers is an embarassment full stop.

Now they can’t say that we do not have any money to spend look @ the players who have left

for example KT for 25 Mil & the other players who have gone as well & if you include the money

they got from last Season’s European Run along with this Season’s fully increased Season Card

renewal 52,000 26 Mil one does not have to be a rocket scientist to work out that said Board are

seriously on the fiddle & trying to fob us all off & seriously short changing us all

Alas, 3-5-2 is not practical at the moment because the the wee, jaky ned from Leith (who rips £15-£20k a week from our pockets), can’t get his arse in gear is not an option.

Not to worry, he’s a ‘fans favourite’.

Not a good enough excuse in my eyes. A club our size should be able to play two upfront even if one’s missing.

  26. Fans talking about coaching a tactics from the bench

Today was classic Neil on his own

    He has no experienced support

Jk was the guy who pit the cones out for training

Zero experience in coaching or playing at highest level for long

Lost Damien duff a replaced him with a PL appointment

  27. FAIRHILL BHOY

You may be enjoying that consolation more than you anticipate this season.

  28. not sure about CB’s being more aggressive , I think better coaching in how to set up as a unit , every one of the back 4 following a defensive leader some one on the park taking ownership , shouting screaming organising being streetwise , we imo are all over the place never in a line nobody talking, players doing their own thing, too timid accepting poor defensive play as the normal.

  29. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Oh please, a club ‘our size can’t afford to pay £15/20 grand a week to chancers.
