Leverkusen win would crack door open for Celtic

328

Real Betis are home to Bayer Leverkusen tonight, both having six points from two games in the Europa League group also containing Celtic and Ferencvaros.  If we can all agree that Leverkusen occupy a universe far beyond Celtic right now, catching Betis is the only realistic prospect Celtic have of qualifying for the knock out stage.

That 4-3 defeat in Seville still rankles; we played very well and deserved to go two goals ahead, before a familiar crumble.  A point, or more, was possible.  So too is a win against Betis in Glasgow, although other results are also a realistic outcome.

If Leverkusen win tonight and Celtic can beat Ferencvaros in Budapest, second place in the group could come down to what we can do against Betis in Glasgow.  Of course, there is a case to be made that third place and the Europa Conference, is a better prospect that facing a Champions League dropout team in the first Europa knock out.  It is also a lot more likely.

  1. Usual pro hun Scottish crap on BBC website again tonight. Richard Wilson really is another level of bigoted bitter editors. Hiding away and controlling his minimum wage scribes on there.

Por Cierto youve kind of read my mind there. Overheard a proper horrible hun say he wouldnt pay the price today. Desperation id say

  3. Let me get this straight. Dixie misses our first penalty against Inter back in 72.

    Celtic lose 5 – 4

Some on here think we only took four penalties…….

  4. The cameras missed Celtic’s final penalty by Murdoch and viewers thought the score was 5-3 on penalties.

If Brondby can score , I’ll be interested to see if Rob McLean has the same kind of screaming orgasm he had when Sevco scored .

Have you got a link to that article?

  7. Commentary team have two looks at Roofe goal and think it’s a terrible decision by ‘incompetent’ VAR official. They haven’t a clue. I thought it was a goal after seeing the action replay. Defender’s heel was playing ref onside.

  8. that was as blatant as an offside you will ever see – unless I don’t understand the rules. Morelos header when roof is a yard offside (clearly) – keeper saves and the ball falls to roof to tap in. Offside – I don’t get it!

  9. As I made that post they acknowledged their error. They had the action replay and two VAR looks at it and still couldn’t see that it was onside and yet they accuse the officials of incompetence. Money for old rope.

    …………..

Look at the defender’s trailing foot. It is nearer the goal than Roofe.

Craigan doesn’t know the bliddy rules. Thinks Roofe is a yard offside when keeper saves the ball. It applies from when Morelos heads the ball and that puts Roofe just onside. Calling the VAR official names and ridiculing VAR. This clown gets paid good money as a pundit. You’d think he’d know the rules.

  12. Just enjoying a wee glass of Bowmore 12 year old Islay single malt.

A lot of strange comments continuing re Celtic v Inter penalty shoot-out. Having watched the video earlier, it is clear that when Inter scored their 5th penalty to make it 5-3, the entire Inter team, including their keeper, ran to the corner in wild celebration.

There was no 5th Celtic penalty. Can’t even begin to understand why people think there was.

It’s about £45 a bottle and about as much as I can afford, now and again.

    Wonderful!

  17. Tom. Its in the match reports. On the Celtic wiki. Murdoch took a penalty into empty net. I take it in them days you had to take 5 each to complete the match.
