Locking down for Celtic, Commons stamina

231

Kilmarnock are having a nightmare start to the season. It’s not so much that they’ve lost both games played, or the manner in which they lost, but every other team in the league has picked up points and either shown glimpses of form, or like Ross County, are feeling really good about their start to the season.

Dundee’s 0-4 humiliation of Kilmarnock on the opening day of the season found some context last night, when, before a TV audience, they played some really good football last night in Scotland’s biggest derby fixture. With this in mind, and aware that the evening’s visit of Celtic could make their four goal skelping by Dundee look modest, Gary Locke is likely to put his team into, erm, lockdown.

The challenge for Celtic tonight is simple: find your scoring touch. Three 2-0 results against Stjarnan, Ross County and Partick Thistle, and a 1-0 and 0-0 against Qarabag are great defensive scores, but only the 1-4 win in Iceland looked like a team who are in free-scoring form.

Kris Commons gave us 88 minutes on Sunday. He must have been exhausted at the end but the experience will have pushed his fitness on considerably. It’s important he uses tonight, and Saturday’s game against Inverness, to balance the requirement to increase stamina without tiring muscles for the Malmo game. Another full shift tonight and a cameo appearance at the weekend sounds like a reasonable compromise.

  1. Ticket sales for next week must be slow….

FROM 12 noon today (Wednesday), Season Ticket holders can buy up to four additional tickets for the upcoming UEFA Champions League play-off match against Malmo FF before they go on general sale tomorrow.

The match takes place a week today, kicking off at 7.45pm in Paradise and a full Celtic Park could make all the difference as the Hoops aim to take a first leg advantage to Sweden the following week.

Season Ticket holders have already snapped up their own tickets in their thousands in the past few days and they now have an exclusive period until 11am tomorrow (Thursday, August 13) to buy up to four additional tickets for friends and family before tickets go on general sale at 12 noon tomorrow.

These additional tickets will be available at general sale prices of £27 for adults, £19 for concessions and £12 for under-13s and can be purchased online at http://www.eticketing.co.uk/celtic, on our sales line on 0871 226 1888* or at the Ticket office.

Season Ticket holders can still take advantage of the discounted ticket price to buy their own ticket but the discounted price will only be available at the Ticket Office. Those tickets, which are priced at £22 for adults, £12 for concessions and £7 for under-13s will not be available online or on our sales line and Season Ticket holders can no longer be guaranteed the option to buy their regular seat.

I suppose it was similar to Miliband appearing alongside the toxic Clegg and Cameron in a Better Together rally. Guilt by association.

    =======================================================================================

Guilt by association? – oh I get it:

Like when the SNP stood shoulder to shoulder with the Church of Scotland in the original “The famines over, it’s time to get to F***”, without the Beach Boys melody?

    or

Like when the SNP stood shoulder to shoulder with Nazi Germany/Hitler, and said the blitz in LONDON was ENGLAND’S problem”, when thousands of Scots were fighting against fascism?

    or

Like when the SNP stood shoulder to should with the Tories to defeat a Labour government and launch the career of Margaret Thatcher?

    or

Like when the SNP stood shoulder to shoulder with the Tories in a coalition in Holyrood?

That’s not guilt by association, that’s a full-blown affair with the forces of Racism/Sectarianism/Fascism and Conservatism.

And you have the stupidity to conflate the setting-aside of political doctrine, in order to save Scotland from a fate worse that Greece, in the face of the most illiterate economic bunch of comedians and liars?

The majority of Scottish people, of course, were NOT conned.

I’m a massive fan of Kris Commons.

Never hides, can pick a pass and his shots on target ratio must be excellent.

He has scored plenty of important goals for us over the years and I think he still has plenty to offer in the SPFL.

I can see where some might doubt him in CL games but I’d always be inclined to have him around.

Commons first goal and 0-3 tonight.

Thanks for your reply re Windows 10.

I left my laptop running for 3 hours to no avail. I’m going to try again at the weekend when I’ll be out for nearly 2 days. My elder son, a software programmer, hates Microsoft and would have me install Linux. We’ll see what happens.

Btw, I’m getting good feedback from some of my pals re the badge you gave me. A pic of Neil Lennon on a United Irishmen CSC badge does the trick in Ayrshire.

  8. Anyone in Scotland who calls the self a Celtic supporter needs to make sure he/she is at the game next week.

I’m expecting Malmo to be big, fit, strong and well organised (maybe not a lot of flair). I’d start with Commons for the home leg.

Two great goals in Dundee last night . Might be worth keeping an eye on Spittal. We don’t need any more midfielders.

Nice to see you posting. I don’t post much these days but still read some of the views on a daily basis. Scroll past more than I read these days, but you are still on my read list…..at least for now:-))

  11. I respect Paul’s opinion re KC, I’m afraid he just isn’t my type of footballer.

I did laugh at Paul’s claim tho that Kris was the only player in our squad who could have scored his goal against Partick, the ball bounced off the defender – KC didn’t control it all!

  12. My friends in Celtic,

We all have stereotypes of various fans supporting differing teams.

Was in the Esquire a wee while ago and there was this typically large supporter of a newish team from across the water. He was telling a tourist from the East ( aw the way from Brigton ) and anybody else who would listen, about how the corrupt city councillors favoured the premier team in Scotland over his discriminated newco.

Totally embarrassing and totally incorrect, but what I learned from his rant and demeanour,is I really must go on a diet to prevent any confusion.

    HH & stereotypecsc.

Almost fell out of my chair when I saw your response.

I’m not a SNP voter or member and would prefer not to get into party politics. I was simply stating that people in Scotland resented Milliband because he positioned himself united with the unpopular Clegg and Cameron.

When Celtic opposed SPL TV with Rangers (IL) we were resented by the rest of the teams by associating ourselves with that mob.
