Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

ANy reason why you would single me out on an article in the Scotsman?

Can’t be because my opinion differs from you is it? I’m just asking, because I have no say on any newspaper in this or any other country, but I do have an opinion of my own, that’s ok in here last time I looked?

It’s easy when you know how :-)

Neither of us are going to change the camp we are in, tho it’s a tad different for me cos I can see both sides of the argument and skip to whatever camp I see is right at the time, you, like a fair few others are entrenched in the board can do and say not wrong camp, as is your right.

I still reckon you are going to have serious probs reconciling things when the board let the sfa and the huns away with years of cheating and corruption.

But I’m sure you will find a way not to blame the board :-)

  3. Without Dedryck at the back we could be vulnerable at set pieces on Wednesday, Scandinavian sides always seem to be strong there. Also his goals helped out at crucial times last year. Maybe Olivier will step up to that challenge.

  4. Embdy got a reliable way of watching live the final round of The Open given that I don’t have Sky?

  5. Starry,

Thanks for your comments. Apologies for the typos, but pesky hotel Wi-Fi and pesky fone are the culprits.

Class status was worth a mention as it is very relevant. Political ideology is ultimately based on class. Rightly or wrongly.

Anyway class was again referenced yesterday. Indeed CQN was described as a middle class blog.

If that is true, then it’ll be a first for me. I’ll need to celebrate with a champagne cocktail.

  6. I see the board are using the MSM to continue their desire to divide and conquer the Celtic support. All dome. I’m order to defend cheating and corruption.

    Classy move Peter.

  7. !!Bada Bing!! @ 12:18 pm,

Think NewCo were aware of this possibility.

That’s why Sevco Scotland Ltd became RIFC PLC, the holding Company for The Rangers FC Ltd.

I’m sure the SFA/SPFL will have another jolly wheeze up there sleeves if this comes to pass.

In the best “Scotland needs a Strong Rangers” tradition.

They’ll not get away with it again…

Living in Europe you rarely hear mention of class or religion, very refreshing if somewhat dull for this pleb:))

I don’t know if I could ever live in Scotland again after living in peace for so many years.

As an aside I was amazed at how my blood boiled in the games against Linfield.

    Progres not perfection I reckon!

  9. Any transfer or football rumours, Celtic supporters argue with one another, not healthy,The Green Brigade thing ,will sort it’s self out,

  10. As far as I’m concerned the Green Brigade will have to toe the law be or will end up being banned permanently by the Club and we will all be losers.

However, the most spurious aspect mentioned amongst possible consequences is the withdrawal of a Safety Certificate by Glasgow City Council. What a joke. Has anyone forgotten that Sevco seem to have one of these despite the precarious state of the roofs of three stands. Why are we no longer discussing this? Does anyone really think GCC want to get involved in any of this? Someone may start shining a torch on their activities and particularly the granting of safety certificates to other parties.

AT -if Sky want to replace that fud McCann with someone intelligent, they could do a lot worse than having Kris Commons as a pundit, although i don’t think he would take the King’s shilling and dog us.

I suggested a while back that MASH may have offloaded his shares for a good reason and that reason may be Craig Whyte and his claim against the assets. If Craig is successful i assume all shares in the current company would be worthless.

Ntcham or Armstrong on Wednesday? it’s Armstrong for me, it will be interesting to see what Brendan decides.

  18. Bada

I agree and we have just had two weeks of Wimbledon, for someone who does not like Tennis a waste of licence money.

So if CW is succesful what is in liquidation if it was not his company who bought RFC for a nicker?

Armstrong. Ntcham still not 100% fit yet.

I have already posted that CFC are the only club in Scotland to have questioned the football authorities on re opening the Nimmo smith enquiry, not one other club has, so I’d say the chances are slim, prob. Very slim, unless there is a sudden surge from other clubs, time will tell, and then of course if it is only us then it’ll be PL fault?

Don’t bother asking I know the answer already, and that includes all the other fifth columnists, keep it in your pants till it’s time. :))

Should have said Sevco Scotland Ltd became The Rangers FC Ltd and RIFC PLC was formed as the holding Company. Making TRFG Ltd a wholly owned subsidiary…

That would presume we stay with a 343. Could happen as I’m not sure Rodgers trusts Sviatchencko, but I also think he’ll be a bit more cautious and revert to his preferred 4231. Ntcham has shown some encouraging signs, but Armstrong has been sensational and is a proven commodity so would expect him to start.

Celtic will wait until the game is sold out before announcing TV coverage. I suspect they’ll go Celtic TV again but after the calamity last week they had better be confident they have fixed whatever issues they had.
