Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

Patience and fortitude required, I get this image of Regan standing before a dam popping with leaks and no enough fingers to plug them, his sneaky snidey words and behaviours will come back to haunt him.

Murray will be planning his escape route right now I would imagine, can’t ever see him sticking his hands up, I can however see him dobbing (sic) others in..

    The shit runs deep..

  2. My friends in Celtic,

Personally I thought the statement from the GB was unnecessary confrontational and ill judged. Assuming that many /most of them are university educated / graduates then they have achieved a very high standard, and presumably must be intelligent.

In that assumption they have in simple terms declared future conflict. A battle for the hearts and minds revolving around the moral compass of what it is to be Celtic.

    Very disappointing.

For years and years Celtic supporters in general avoided the trends of Ultras and casuals. We were predominantly a working class support who were spontaneous in our actions.

That has changed, times have changed. We now have a middle class section of our support thinking they can act as they want and damn the consequences.

They are not the conscious of Celtic, the middle class PLC are not the conscious of Celtic.

Where in all this, is the voice of the ordinary working Celtic supporter?

As I have stated many times, I love the atmosphere the GB bring. But do they love political ideology more than Celtic?

    Hail Hail.

  3. We are living in interesting times and those interesting times have now made it to G44.

Some people need to make a decision — what are you / what is more important to you?

    1) Football “ultra” — M+S sorry John Lewis revolutionary / middle class ego tripper / member of the 6 year common room at St Als / self selecting uber fan?

    2) CFC supporter — Supporting the team is the main event / explaining to PL the advantage of having a growth agenda has its place / making the most of the levers available to develop a progressive mindset with positive actions also comes into play.

Old enough to remember the last supporters fad.

Young enough to remember the change in mindset that was forced upon the easily led when they had to be escorted out of Easter Road to save them from hard lesson that was about to be taught to them by the mainstream support.

    We have been here before.

Just this time we are dealing with a spoiled 21st century faux libertarian attitude rather than the collective anti Thatcher times of the late 80’s.

Oh dear, oh dear. I see that Celtic have previously used that triangle image surrounding a pic of one of our former players from the occupied six, and within an official publication as well. Looks like the GB are being condemned at least partially for something Celtic had already done.

  5. GP @ 12.07

Well said — the spontaneous working class angle is probably what defines us.

People of a certain vintage might have white collar careers but you only become middle income never middle class.

Unfortunately the children of the middle income become middle class if they are not taught history by experience rather than history by academic tutorial.

I believe the Celtic View carries a statement that the content of the CV’s is not the Clubs view or opinion.

    I believe.

    ===================================================================

The marvellous thing about their statement is that they confirm what some of us have been accusing them all for years.

They admit to being political entryists who use Celtic to promote their political ideology.

And they don`t give a damn about the consequences for Celtic .

If they did , they wouldn`t be repeat offenders.

That`s their prime objective and if that damages Celtic , and it does , they don`t care.

    They just don`t care.

I take it you mean conscience and not conscious yes??

The voice of the ordinary supporter would that be the sell out of season tickets this season, is that not a statement from the ordinary supporter?

The CSA, The Celtic Trust, CQN, Kerrydale St, E-Tims, The Celtic blog?? There’s a million voices of the Celtic support.

A middle class section of the support?? Is that the new ” oh those casual wee neds” of some years back??

A post based on an assumption which may or not be true is not going very far in my opinion..

What has the class of the supporter got to do with anything apart from showing you have a chip one way or another toward one section of the support.

Our enemies don’t have to divide and conquer us everybody is already running about with huge chips on the shoulders:((

  14. TONYDONNELLY67 @ 12:02 PM,

“Question was that £250,000 fine to oldco by Nimmo ever paid? I don’t recall it?”

Yes it was. Initially Sevco said it wasn’t their debt it was Oldco’s. According to the SPL Commission’s findings they were correct.

The SPFL & SFA said it was Sevco’s, I believe that this was to give the illusion that Rangers FC had been punished.

Of course £250,000 was a pittance in reality for the wrongdoing.

Sevco said they would fight the fine and take it to Arbitration.

Then the CofS found in favour of HMRC in the BTC.

They found the logic in the SPFL and SFA’S argument and paid it.

As I said, giving the illusion that the Club were punished for the EBT scandal.

    STARRY PLOUGH @ 12:07 PM,

Yes that’s quite a graphic image and quite right. It’s indicative of the way the SFA were so quick to come out with their statement that they weren’t doing any Reviews.

Of course, this showed they had not taken legal advice from the Law Lords Decision or had read the Judgement.

From the Res12 to SFA LNS Inquiry to The Five way Agreement to SPL LNS Commission and beyond. There are huge question marks about the SFA’S Governance of Rangers. Up to and including their failure to review. Especially in light of the Scotland needs a Strong Rangers statements.

Just an aside, as we are talking about David Murray’s duping…

Two things that Craig Whyte said he was duped about didn’t come out in Court, I believe they weren’t that relevant and CW didn’t give evidence in question.

    1. Craig Whyte believed that Rangers had guaranteed European Football, he thought that if they failed to qualify for the UCL they went straight into Europa League.

    2. He thought that MIH were going to press forward with the BTC and that Rangers Contingent Liability in that regard would have been cleared up. The case was supposed to be heard in November 2012, MIH asked for an adjournment.

Of course CW should have done due diligence in all these regards and as far as the Purchase Agreement was concerned he signed over responsibly for the Tax Case to MIH.

But it’s just another indication of the way Murray operated, he certainly didn’t safeguard the future of the Club, far from it.

He and his Board need to be a big part of any REVIEW.

  17. Celtic supporters including the GB are choirboys in comparison to many others. Uefa know this. The sanctions are a routine slap on the wrist. BAMBOO wrote.

Indeed they are.The more hysterical GB haters on here are stoking up the rhetoric of”Ground closures”.

Utter drivel, but dont let anything get in their way of having a go at other Celtic fans.

The word “Ultras”,seems to be lost on them.As does the fantastic worldwide acclaim,Celtic as a club got for the GB,Palestinian appeal. The work they do collecting for Food Banks. The work they do organizing the Football Tournaments for homeless.

You will notice where the team heads to at the end of games.Where KT headed to so he could get a “Selfie”with them. The players love them. The only ones who dont seem to be the old codgers brigade.

A powerful and pertinent speech. She still has the fire.

  19. I am astonished that the concerns of Celtic from the last Hearts game where they said there were flares fire appliances called and a dangerous situation that it was not addressed then if it was so much of a concern, to not do so has endangered everyone who has been at a game since.

This smacks to me of a botched disciplinary hearing where the person who is being disciplined has additional items introduced to convict, do Celtic really know how to handle this, it does not look like it to me?

Season books are bought and whether you like it or not have conditions attached that you must follow, if you dont intend to follow the conditions dont buy a ticket or a season book.

I say again this is poor from Celtic leaving a dangerous situation unaddressed until now, and that will be Hawthorn who is responsible,if fans are being banned what is happening to a guy whose job is safety and security for all who enter the stadium.
