Maribor slight favourites

2143

Celtic will face Maribor from Slovenia in the Champions League play-off round.  Maribor, of course, played a critical part in the death of Rangers, when they eliminated Ally MsCoist’s team from Europe a few months after Craig Whyte took over from Sir David Murray.  Having heard the 6-1 aggregate result against Legia, they are already celebrating the draw.

Maribor gave Wigan two hard games in last season’s Europa League, winning their home tie and causing the FA Cup holders more trouble than expected in England.  They progressed to the knock out round before going out 4-3 on aggregate to Sevilla – a feat Celtic would not have been capable of. Right now, they should be slight favourites.

If you missed it, today’s earlier article on Lady Luck, HMRC and money is here.

Join the Celtic Graves Society, Fergus McCann and many more at Kilsyth Cemetery on Saturday, 18 August, to commemorate the final resting place of the great Jimmy Quinn. Full details below or at Celtic Graves.

  1. ACGR,

Was just about to rattle into page14 then caught your post there. I’ll tell you how it works for me. I relax after a coont of a week, settle down, and stick BBC4 on on a Friday night, and think, right I’ll have quick ten minute catch up on the chat on CQN.

You are absolutely right – this all of a sudden becomes 3 hours, followed by a decision to go to bed and skim through the rest for 10 minutes before closing my eyes. Next thing I know is it’s 7am, and I feel the need to say something.

    The rest is history…..:))

I’m very well thanks fella. How are you keeping? Did you beat JJ at the golf today, or did you take it easy on him? :)) I still owe you the price for a hotel room, I haven’t forgotten !

Sipsini, watch out when you next go into you hun infested workplace. I mean it. Watch your back and don’t let the hun scum rile you on any of today’s happenings. They are reaching a new level of hatred I’ve not seen before.

I know you know the score bud, but be extra carefull and pass that onto the young sips too. I know miss sipsini luvs goading huns.

Hail Hail and take good care bruv

  3. We all knew when Gordon signed that big Fraser was off….

Probably more his decision than the boards … But all the best to him .

NOW I suspect this was the plan all along …

    Sell before you buy…

No point in telling world were ready to spend ready cash …

One deal to be done I suspect will be 3

An interesting take. I’m not so sure of that myself, but could be wrong also. Can I ask why you suspect this specifically?

Feck me. It actually all makes sense now. Minty is a fenian with a long term plan – beauty is that he still has them in the sweaty palm of his hand – heh heh. Suckers.

I did read here this morning of the Closet East Coast Huns manager explaining how hthe training schedule is based around playing with ten men to help counter the hun promotion threat – only in Scottish fitbaw, brilliant :))

I really hope Livingston win that league, but I’m afraid they can’t afford the current MIB asking price.

How about calling it a Kingdom, and then I’ll be a King”?

HM: “No, we don’t like that idea Mr Salmond”.

AS: “Empire, and I’ll be Emperor”?

HM: “No. I don’t think so Mr Salmond”.

AS: “OK, so how about calling it a Principality, and then I’ll be a Prince”?

HM: “No, Mr Salmond. May I suggest that we call it a Country?

  12. Acgr,

I’ve experienced it already, from the management…their hurt knows no bounds…their problem is…no huns could fill my boots at my job.

As for the kids, they are well mentored on the way the huns work.

Did you get a kip today?

I’m bright as a button now…wee James! having a few friends up for his birthday tomorrow, I’ve been told to go out as I’m an oldie….:(

  16. the glorious balance sheet on

Ewan Murray of The Guardian says we got a seven figure sum for the hire of Celtic Park for the Commonwealth Games. Lets call it £1 million.

No more £15,000 per week wages for Samaras = £780,000 saved per year.

Fraser Forster sold for £10 million.

Tony Watt sold for £1.2 million.

8 additional European games – £5 million. [rising to £20 million if we qualify for CL group stages].

At worst case scenario we will trouser an additional £18 million over the next 12 months due to European qualification, CW games and player sales completed to date.

If we qualify for the CL this will rise to £33 million.

If – as rumoured – we sell Virgil van Dijk for £7 million then we could be up by as much as £40 million [or £25 million if Maribor eliminate us from the CL].

I think we already have around £12 million cash in the bank after last season`s CL run and player sales [Wilson, Wanyama, Hooper].

There really is no need for Ronny Deila to have to sign players whose careers have stalled on 6 month loan deals or to have to gamble on the fitness of a goalkeeper who has played hardly any football over the last 4 years.

We need better players in key positions of the team. We have the money to invest but do the board have the inclination to do so or is the powder being kept dry for the arrival of the Zombies?

  17. BCW

I can’t comment on rumours, but I agree the performance & body language of some was strange on Wednesday. I put it more down to an acceptance that they were playing out a tie they felt was over. This is possibly more worrying right enough. For me, Stokes doesn’t look fit.

I take your original point in a way, in that some noses might be out of joint with RD’s reportedly more strict regime, but where I’d differ is that I think he’s better to set his stall out early & see how they react. If he tries to suddenly toughen up his approach later they could either see it as contrived or even take it personally as though they’re being picked on. This way they know from the start it’s shape up or ship out.

I like Henderson. Would love to see him given a run. I’d have had him in midfield before Mulgrew tbh, but can only assume RD thought he was a safer option due ti experience. Hope he’s learned otherwise.

  18. Suppose I’d better put a tune to the lyrics!

  22. Bit of a dilemma with the team at the moment for PL – do we trust the manager and replace the whole team, or ditch him in 3 months when things go from bad to worse.

It’s a very very difficult position, but we are only in this sittuation because penny management has led to every decent manager walking away from the club.

To call this great fiscal management is nonsense. If every CL campaign averages at a worth of £20M, we have thrown away 60 by letting the huns do what they do, and then another 20 this year.

The departpure of Lenny and Sammy is crying out that something is wrong. We should have been investing 5-10M in Lenny choosing his own players. This board is about grabbing every penny at the expense of the club while cheating the support like idiots. Who benefits from this money grabbing? The ordinary share-holders or someone who has a bulk stake in the club and has the final say on how it is run?

This is true because some very valuable CQN geniuses have said so.

Oh aye – and we also have the failure of the huns to gain promotion to the SPL to look forward to, and then a sudden improvement in refereeing which will ensure we will have a level playing field next season when trying to gain this invaluable CL £20M.

My head want’s to say it is for the future redevelopment of Parkhead i.e phase 2 of the stadium improvements and the possible start of phase 2 at Lennoxtown with the addition of the youth players full time living quarters/schooling, without the need for another share issue.
