Media fast and loose with Neil Lennon comments

906

The annual raft of idle speculation unsettling Celtic’s playing and managerial resources is well underway.  One newspaper headline today proclaimed, “Celtic boss wants Canaries to approach him”, based on Neil Lennon when talking about moving to England saying, “There has been no offer, there has been no concrete phone call or anything like that, so I haven’t really had a decision to make on it”.  Countless others have followed in a similar theme.

Neil Lennon has not really hidden the fact that he would like to manage in the FA Premier League one day, but none of the journos with pages to fill have any notion on his thoughts of dropping a division in England.  In the real world, Neil is showing no reticence in pursuing team development plans for next season.  We’ll be involved in Champions League football two months from tomorrow, the manager is busy on the matters in hand.

Best wishes to John Brown for his inspired attempts to take down Newco Rangers.  More power to you, John, I hope you have any many lemmings lined up as possible.  Some months ago the plotters had a notion that they would starve Newco shareholders into handing over the club for zilch, or £1 less than Rangers were sold to a liquidation expert for.  It remains possible that Sevco will starve, but notions that there will be an outcome for the plotters which is more desirable than an existence under the current crew are fading by the day.

Don’t forget, we’ve Tommy Gemmell, live on the blog, on Friday between 13:00 and 16:00.  He’ll be here to chat and answer your questions.

Issue 20 of CQN Magazine, CQLisboN, is out and enjoying great reviews. Click here to read for FREE.

  1. The thought of Gary Hooper returning would excite me , but sadly I think he has his eye on one of the London clubs which is fair enough, obviously money will drive his decision which is his prerogative, most of us in our work would do the same, the only problem for Gary Hooper would be fading even further out the England set up, unless he gets some form and manages a move to one of the big clubs in England

    Peace be with you

  2. A lot of empty seats for a european final

Linking successful Celtic managers with minnows is an old game.

We play in a bankrupt league but thrive on CL scraps, and nobody knows more than Scottish MSM orcs

    that Celtic are a phenomena.

Neil Lennons choice of words to the press are not important.

I’m sure you have very good opinions on Celtic, I’ll make sure I’m looking out for them.

    Good post.

Pity about the vagueness of target.

For the record when I offer an opinion, either tonight or any other time, I am neither petulant nor anxious.

    That said,good night.

Thank you, I will try, not sure my opinions are always the best, but I do enjoy offering them on Celtic.

Brian McClair still one of the greatest Celtic strikers in my lifetime, there is an opinion that might not go down well, but he was top goalscorer in each of his 4 seasons.

    Pretty good in my book

  9. Good evening friends.

Anyone else planning on switching to and fro between tonight’s games –

ITV4 – Sevilla v Benfica (Europa Cup Final)

Alba – Cowdenbeath v Dunfermline (Championship play off, first leg)

All 4 teams to score with Benfica and Cowdenbeath to win (it was a “free” £2 bet…)

If or rather when Neil does eventually leave I would hope we go for 1 of the following Paul Hartley, Ian Murray or Jackie Mac.

Jackie would be the fav if Neil was to leave now but I actually think in a year the other 2 might be better chioces. PH is proving to be an excellent manager and next year his team Dundee may just be a surprise in the SPFL.

Ian Murray at Dumbarton though, for me, is showing that you can play great football with little or no resources. No mean achievement for any team but for a team such as Dumbarton this is incredible. Lowest budjet in the league and they finished 5th, most observers were full of praise for his adventurous style of play and I think he really could be the next really great Scottish talent. I just we don’t overlook him as he is managing in a lower league.

He was a great striker .

Just behind Larsson and McAvennie for me.

As an Irishman why would you vote for the independence of a country that has done so much to deny the Irish nation the very same privilege. As an Irishman who has lived under British occupation all my life I fervently hope that the evil twins remain joined together forever with an ever increasing festering hatred of each other as they squabble over the dwindling dregs of the UKs merge resources. Call it Poetic justice, call it whatever you want. My vote, if I had one, would be nay, nay and thrice times nay. Unlike the Murphys I am Bitter .

Long long time lurking but had to break the curfew your post had me intrigued as well as noting that someone claimed they were proud to be a ‘cybernat Fenian’ . Scots Nats equating themselves to Fenians – aye right about as much a Fenian as the Duke of Edinburgh.

  13. As a practicing Catholic I want to be charitable but I notice that a certain Islam Feruz is starting for Chelsea under 21 V M. Utd under 21. Cannot stand either team and certainly wish Mr Feruz a tough old night – at times it is hard to be a Catholic.

  14. In fact lookin at the empty seats it seems europe could do with a strong celtic…

I actually never thought of Paul Hartley, that could be a good shout, but for me I would hope it would be wee Jackie if he keeps up his current managerial progress.

As for Ian Murray, he has done well with Dumbarton and they seem to be getting great results against bigger clubs, but I’m going to show myself up here, he played for Rangers, and I don’t know how comfortable I would be having him being manager of Celtic, I know that sounds pretty narrow minded, that’s not to take away from the man’s managerial ability, which I think is not in question, and should be the the number 1 priority when choosing a manager.

    Peace be with you

  17. The sea the sea the beautiful sea, long may you flow between England and me, god help the poor Scots they’ll never be free but Irelands surrounded by water

  18. eddieinkirkmichael.

Paul Hartley is not just proving to be an excellent manager, by all accounts he is also a fine person.

When my daughter was the mascot the Celtic Ghirls looking after her stated that he was one of the most popular players and that his “buy in ” to our off field activities was exemplary and far exceeded the call of duty.

    HH, always in Celtic.

Your correct sir, he would be behind Larsson but for me Brian McClair would be ahead of McAvennie, just the fact he did it over a longer period, also some of his overall play was probably better.

    Good chatting

I read this thread with interest. A reasonable analysis of the huns current situation followed by a reasonable discussion, albeit missing the obvious option of forced insolvency if season tickets don’t sell:
