Media fast and loose with Neil Lennon comments

906

The annual raft of idle speculation unsettling Celtic’s playing and managerial resources is well underway.  One newspaper headline today proclaimed, “Celtic boss wants Canaries to approach him”, based on Neil Lennon when talking about moving to England saying, “There has been no offer, there has been no concrete phone call or anything like that, so I haven’t really had a decision to make on it”.  Countless others have followed in a similar theme.

Neil Lennon has not really hidden the fact that he would like to manage in the FA Premier League one day, but none of the journos with pages to fill have any notion on his thoughts of dropping a division in England.  In the real world, Neil is showing no reticence in pursuing team development plans for next season.  We’ll be involved in Champions League football two months from tomorrow, the manager is busy on the matters in hand.

Best wishes to John Brown for his inspired attempts to take down Newco Rangers.  More power to you, John, I hope you have any many lemmings lined up as possible.  Some months ago the plotters had a notion that they would starve Newco shareholders into handing over the club for zilch, or £1 less than Rangers were sold to a liquidation expert for.  It remains possible that Sevco will starve, but notions that there will be an outcome for the plotters which is more desirable than an existence under the current crew are fading by the day.

Don’t forget, we’ve Tommy Gemmell, live on the blog, on Friday between 13:00 and 16:00.  He’ll be here to chat and answer your questions.

Issue 20 of CQN Magazine, CQLisboN, is out and enjoying great reviews. Click here to read for FREE.

The football will be better on ITV 4 but if commentary is your bag, then Alba wins hands down.

Sorry for the delay but I was washing down the skirting boards to ready them for painting. A hen-pecked husband’s work is never done.

    Anyways:-

“We will spend £4-5 million on 3 duffers, rather than buy one of quality.”

Only if you assume that Finbogasson was ever going for only £5m (and if so, why did No-One buy him at that price?). Spurs bid £10m for a dud Soldado, Cardiff payed £9m for a Danish dud, Norwich bought Van Wolfswinkel for £9m and he scored wan goal.

Of course our scouts could be completely rubbish to explain the failure to recommend and sign but you’ld have to believe that all clubs employ rubbish scouts because he wasn’t bought last summer, nor in the Jan window, by anyone.

Burghbhoy, there’s no many of our exmanagers moved to top epl clubs in recent years.

To be honest if I were an undecided and saw that video from earlier it would make me a firm YES.

The chance to get rid of Simon Cowell and his ilk from my TV screens would be a major motivating factor and then I remembered, I get his mug on Slovak TV as well. YES THEY SHOW THAT BLOODY X Factor here as well (US Version though).

Katie Hopkins never allowed on my screen ever again regardless of a vote either way could swing me to vote NO. And if they told me I could never see Doctor Who ever again I might have something to think about (but that is what the internet is for).

    I wish.

But, if our Top Scorer, who we wanted to keep, can be tempted away, then we could lose our manager easily to a West Brom, West Ham, Newcastle, Fulham or, even, Norwich.

Neil will get paid more and will get less hassle. he won’t get more glory but, maybe, as a young manager, he fancies his chances of doing well and using the likes of Norwich as a springboard to better things.

Yes – same as last year. We will find out on 23rd June who we play in Q2. then we have Q3 (these home games are scheduled for Murrayfield) and finally the ‘Play Off’ round

Unfortunately, if we have to rely on STV to make and create programmes, it will be wall to wall Taggart which, apart from Brond, was the only successful or acclaimed show they have produced in 70 years.

BBC Scotland, at least, have a successful Comedy Unit but little else.

Thankfully, TV is global and we can already choose what to watch and what to avoid. Voting Yes will give no more or less freedom to do so.

  13. Geordie and Embramike

    Thank you.

I suppose the upside is that should we successfully complete the six games, we will be more ready for the SPFL beginning than our rivals. Cue early fixtures against other SPFL teams who will also have played qualifiers!

SFTB- I hear what you say but the average shelf life down there seems to be less than 9 months or less-if he was to go and say things didnt work out well in terms of results for him and indeed any new manager[for a variety of reasons] it could be over by xmas for him and then what ?-labelled EPL failure?-then again you will reply it could work out very well for him-{i think I am now are into if my aunty had thingmyjigs kinda debate here:)

Though I do feel the odds are stacked against the new incoming managers at lower level clubs whose owners seem to press the panic button very early indeed HH

I can maybe just maybe understand Hooper’s decision to go to Norwich…..more money, in the EPL, he’s English and wanted to improve his chances of a cap ( in his opinion)

But Lenny….. He’s one of us, a supporter, Norwich ain’t even in the top flight. If that’s the extent of his ambition then he’s selling himself short and disrespecting my club .

I don’t think he would do that to us but he would seriously damage his reputation with me if he did

Yes, that’s the case. We go in at the second qualifying round and it’ll be that way for a few years unless we win it sometime.

National co-efficients peg Scotland at 25th place now and we have to reach 14th-16th to enter at the third qualifying round and only have to play two ties to reach the group stage.

Talking about CL qualifying, it looks very lokely that Debrecen will win the Hungarian League (3 pts clear with much better GD and 2 games to go).

Neil’s reputation was riding high last year and has been dented a little this year. He is loved here and, if he stays, will be supported BUT….

I cannot criticise him if he takes himself away from the hassle and venom he faced down up here. He owes us nothing now as he has repaid us both in his own suffering and our club’s success under his guidance.

I hope he stays but I’d understand if he left. The short shelf life risks are well rewarded and most “failed” managers get two or three chances with clubs. Anyway, just as Motorbike riders are all aware of the horrendous accident stats, they cope by believing it will happen to someone else. Similarly, a confident manager always believes he will be the exception to the short shelf life rule.

dont want you treating me differently to anyone else..

  26. My friends in Celtic,

Ins and outs at Parkhead remains to be seen.

Regardless : Where are our players coming through our youth system? Since 2007 we have had first class facilities. Have we had a return on our investment?

IMO investment in first class facilities should equate to at least some first team players, not occasional glimpsing appearances.

To outline what we are competing against, Cardiff received 62 million for last season. In a nutshell that is why we are struggling to compete in financial terms, we can never match this. Until we hopefully join the club we need to bring our own players through. If England can take 18 year olds to Rio then surely we can play them in the SPL.

Maybe a sightseeing trip to Southampton would be money well spent.

    HH, always in Celtic.

PS : People saying the English don’t need or want us in their league are the same people advocating a monetary union when the same criteria applies.

    Both can be negotiated.

A complaint has been lodged with White Star Coaches of Glasgow regarding the conduct of one of their drivers on Sunday at Bridgeton Cross as the bus was driving through on route to Parkhead.

The driver of the bus in question was waving around a celtic top about & shouting out the bus orange bastards, Following a call to the company we have been informed this is not the first time the driver has acted in this manner however the company is refusing to take any action and have denied receiving any other complaints regarding this incident which is untrue.
