Didn’t expect Scotland to win but according to the BBC rugby correspondent, the last penalty given to Australia was highly dubious. Shame. Still, the rugby lads seem to have done very well. Good on them.
It’s a huge game in the borders, where every kid plays the game.

The replay shows the penalty was dubious but the big issue is why the referee didn’t check with the video ref as it was a game changing decision in the last minute of a world cup quarter final
BBC national weather talking about England again rather than the whole country. According to them, it has been cloudy for the past few days. No doon here, hen. It has been beautiful.
Have to be honest and did expect to get sparked, so well played our boys. Left the tournament fighting, like the Welsh….the Irish ran out of players and the English were just shite.
How’s that for a summary from a non rugby fan?

I admire the rugger players and their attitude but could never understand anybody wanting to throw a ball rather than kick it, maybe rugby fans think kicking a ball into a net is just as daft

I was gutted with the last Australian penalty, and I don’t even like rugby so for the people who do like it must have been a lot worse, without knowing too much I thought Australia would run over the top of Scotland but again my knowledge is considerably less than football and that isn’t even that good…. Glorious failure ? I caught the interview with one of the players after the game, the guy was visibly upset, at one point I thought he was going to snap at the stupid questions he was expected to answer, don’t think I have ever spoke/typed about rugby in my life but I bet Alan Muir played rugby at his school, he certainly didn’t play fitba

My surprise….. BBC commentator said we should have had 2 penalties.
What is the Stars on
Angel Gabriel
My understanding of the offence that led to the award of the Australian penalty was as follows.
The ball was played forward by a Scottish player ( bounced off his shoulder I think at the line out) it was then caught and held by another Scottish player who was ahead of the player who propelled the ball forward and was therefore in an offside position. This was deemed to be deliberate offside resulting in a penalty. Had the player not caught the ball ( had it for example just bounced off him) it would have been deemed accidental offside punishable by a scrum to Australia rather than a penalty.
However he caught it so deemed deliberate.
Now that said I know nothing about rugby
Gerryfaethebrig on
Doc
You are correct the gut was called Laidlaw, for those guys getting to a semi-final then anything could happen….
WITS
Also knowing heehaw about rugby you have called the penalty correct but seemingly the experts think a contentious decision should have been referred to the “video-cam” as from an outsider looking in that was never intentional

You need to watch it again, as it was the Oz player that last touched it before the Scottish player caught it. To difficult to call and very surprising that it did not go to the Video Ref due to the importance of the incident.
Just as I was saying yesterday that rugby was years ahead in refereeing :-)

The 2 clear missed penalties , plus other blunders by yesterdays officials .At least 2clear wrong
off-sides called but thankfully Celtc still prevailed.
So now is the right time to put in a strong protest!
Put the officials in the spot-light and make it harder for them to give these deliberate wrong calls .
In the Broonie incident the mib started to point towards the spot then realised what he was doing and stopped stooped himself.
Ronnie needs to wise up and realise what we are up against.
Mowbry had a take it on the chin attitude and it did him no good at all.

Hi fella – Hail Hail
RD isny the problem, he’s probably already wise enough by now anyway having been schooled by Johnny Collins and, John Kennedy amongst others.
No, Ronny and big Tony Mowbray arent the problem…the folk who brought them in are the problem.
The mindset being occupied at the top of the club was clearly spelt out by DD recently and, has been spelt out by him on a few other times over the recent period.
If, by nature your a rebellious Tim like…
Neil Lennon
Roy Keane
Johnny Collins
Big Mark McGhee…
then, by nature you’ll rebel against any cheating of the team in hoops, especially if you are the manager of that team and, your future could depend on you, making a stand against that cheating by calling it out but, when you have signed up to a dont-rock-the-boat-confidentiallity-agreement then, you’ve effctively sold your soul to all the devils in hell…just like, the Celtic board of directors.
A lot of Celtic supporters seem to find difficulty in absorbing that fact.
In fact, it’s a worrying amount of Celtic supporters who dont seem to get this…very worrying.
This could get as messy as 2010 before, a lot of Celtic supporters actually realise that their Jelly & ice cream period of domination was, no more than a charmed existence.
Sad, but true.

Scotland rugby fans have been advised to become Celtic fans so they can get used to having dodgy refereeing decisions against them
There was nothing dodgy about the penalty awarded to Australia. The rules were fairly applied.
Feel sorry for Scotland, at least they gave it a good shot.
Argentina blew ireland away, well done to them
Been told there is a Irish bar IN Molde. Googled with no success any bhoys know the name/address of it.

Evening all.
Having attended a school where rugby was never mentioned I ain’t got scooby regarding the egg chasing rules.
Having a weakness regarding a punt and being easily led I lumped on the Aussies.
No shame rugby is not on my moral compass.
However. After watching my 4/11 Aussie/ Aussie half time full time hitting the stank amongst others ,the game became enjoyable.
Can anyone explain what mis demeanour occurred that warrants a match changing 3 point swing ???
Will look in tomorrow for a reply.
