Steven Mouyokolo’s last two permanent contracts were for clubs playing Premier League football in England but after joining Hull City as a 22-year-old and making 21 appearances in their relegation season, his move to Wolves bombed amid a multitude of injuries. The player has made four appearances for Wolves and four for Sochaux in the last three years.
He no longer has the profile which would be considered in the English Premier League; which is why he’s pitched up in Scotland. If his knee passes a medical this week, he’ll become the latest 6’3” defender on the Celtic books, competition for Kelvin, Virgil, Charlie, Efe and the rest.
Competition is good but Steven’s chances of edging out the competition to become a first team regular must be considered slight with his injury record, whether he passes the medical or not. It’s more likely he’ll follow the path of Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe, although Champions League football and a Cup Final winner is not a bad return.

Rhinoair fly to Santander from Embra.for tuppence return (plus £80 per case) if you book early.
Lovely drive along the coast past Bilbao to the wonderful city of Donostia, where among other unique aspects, they play football on the ’50 pitches’ that is the beach when the tide’s out.
Highly recommended.
dixiebhoy – did you name them after the Coronation Street character?
Sorry, couldn’t resist.
Incidentally, Albion Rovers` Goalkeeper is the son of a CQNer who played at Aberdour.
So best of luck to young Matthew when they play Sevco .

The WiFi at asbestos dome IS “ground breaking. ”
When they came to install it, a bit of the roof fell off.
Talking of northern Spain…. Can anyone recommend any good hotels, restaurants and bar in Bilbao? Thinking of going for a few days in September. Always heard very good reports from others that have been.

The doumbe cup final reminds me of my mate who sent his wife into back jean joel perrier doumbe at 50s. He always backed defenders to score first.. She got to the bookies and couldnt remember his name so told the cashier it was the one with the big long name. That’ll be vennegoor of hesseliink suggested the cashier. Must be said jim’s wife and stuck on the fiver. One of these days they are bound to start talking again.

Hail Hail to the Dixie twins and their parents.
San Sebastian
Fab city which in years passed was ignored by many holiday makers and visitors as either too Spanish or too Basque — both phrases being a euphemism for “no one spoke English!”
I think it is a great area myself with one of the highlights being if you can find a game of pelota to watch — officially the fastest ball sport in the world.
See here!

In the olden days ( 80’s ) things could get a wee bit tasty if the natives got restless and started attacking the Guarda Civil and I remember getting caught up in a bit of a skirmish with Andy Walker’s brother in law when we were there.
We were sitting in a bar when we were told to suddenly get down and the next thing the windows were shot in with rubber bullets which had been aimed at protesters who were setting benches and other things on fire in the square outside.
Hairy stuff!!!
The beach at Fuenterrabia which is just over the Spanish border from France is also spectacular and of course once you cross into France ( if you go that way ) St Jean De Luz is a great place to visit.
They are also Basques. I once asked a French Basque what the difference was between a French Basque and a Spanish Basque?
He said ” None! I am merely French for tax purposes — but everyone either side of the border knows that they are Basque!”
Oh and they all believe that they can ride a bicycle up and down a mountain better than anyone else on the planet — they just don’t boast about it!
I asked about Miguel Indurain ( 5 times tour de France winner ) and how proud were the Basques were of his achievements?
One guy told me ” Yes it is great. He lives in a village outside of Pamplona — but he is not the best cyclist in his street let alone the village!!!”
Hard to beat the Basques in terms of their identity and crazy way of looking at things.
For every Celtic coaching tour we will make two coach tours.

Ever decreasing circles.
In the early 70s our next-door neighbours, a Scot and his Belfast wife, and once proud of displaying their colours on the 12th, headed off for the certainties of being a white man in South Africa.
Then one of the neighbours across from us, young, single, workshy and tired of his life as a part-time RUC reservist, followed suit.
The Scot and his wife, to the their enormous credit, turned up one evening about 5 years later and brought presents and apologised for being the bigots they were before they left and how they had treated my father, in particular.
The reservist was back in a year too.
Seems Israel is the only show in town these days.

Hows young bunnet?
Is it just me, or is the idea of hosting the Youth Olympic Games in Medellin, Columbia, a little incongruous?
surprised celtic are giving the bhoy steven a contract but he must have done well.
was on interactive site today counting season ticket sales to date, deducted away end and several rows of seats from top tier (up to six rows in corner) still reckon we have sold 50,000 +
cant help but think celtic agreed to change of euro tie from home to away to sell more season tickets.
that’s what happens when your on annual leave, unwell and stuck in our bed (LOL)
when celtic knock down London road school, build the new superstore and museum, café etc… and develop the envois of the stadium (1st phase of celtic triangle) who thinks the servo will bring the bulldozers in to knock down their very own listed building?

stayed around Biscarosse on the French coast and haven’t travelled towards Spain at all.
Yesterday went to Arcachon and the bay of Arcachon which was lovely– could cope with a small pied a terre there.
Day before yesterday I wandered into Bordeaux and bumped into folk I know within 5 minutes.
As with all these places I keep looking out for a Celtic bar to watch the games in — just advance retirement planning you understand.
Bordeaux was fruitful with two good Irish Pubs spotted and checked lol.
5 Zombies sitting round a table at lunch in our shared break area.
I dont know them, they dont know me.
First time I have really heard the high level brilliance of their discussions.
I was at the coffee machine.
Aye, we sold 28,000 season tickets, and the deadline is coming up.
Aye but they will extend the deadline, its the holidays in tit.
Aye, how much
mines was 320, but if you go to a game on its ain its 15 quid.
did you see that someone said we are losing money , each month
canny be, thats rubbish
and thats why bocannegra and goyan are going
ah canny see, 45,000 there every week paying £15 each, thats a lot of money.
and the share issue had money in the bank.
allright boys, how much do you think it cost to run a big football club with a massive stadium, and the overheads that brings on simple things like maintainence, and compliance and making it safe, and then the utilities, and the cost of actually employing people to sell tickets and merchandise, and then to pay the players, and Murray Park,
em ? aye but surely there is enough money to cover all that, must be,
maybe not if you do some sums, and then whatabout your directors and the board , over a million a year,
and what about your manager, 700k a year.
to be honest with you guys, your a 2nd division club paying out Celtic style wages, without the fanbase or comercial income to cover it ………………
em, says the biggest red faced muppet
“who asked you anyway, see when rangers get back, and we huv to play the celtic, well we are only given you the same amount of tickets , as other fans get, so you will only have a few hunner in the corner of the broomloan, and see how that works eh”
to be fair, ……………. mate …………… i dont know if the celtic fans will take up those tickets, your a new club, with no history , so its not like there is a rivalry, for us its the same as playing arbroath , or the new gretna ”
anyways, i was only trying to help you understand the finances a bit ………… do you like the new bus ?
hehehehhehe,
they were not happy at all, i think my cards will be marked .
hehhehehe

Perhaps yes, but not as much as sports brands becoming eco-evangelists and then sponsoring FIFA to hold the World Cup in Qatar with air conditioned stadia as it’s too hot to hold a World Cup in Qatar.

He’s doing fine, thanks. Pain free and has a full range of movement in the ankle again.
Despite a set back a couple of weeks ago, the Surgeon formally discharged him this morning, happy with his joinery and what not. Rehab pathway now stretches out for the next 5 months or so, provided he does what the physio tells him to.
Biggest issue is the ligaments now, not the bones. There’s maybe another 3 months of healing before they can take dynamic loading, following which he can start training hard again.
Interestingly, while clearly the leg muscles have atrophied, he’s lost a fair bit of core strength too over the past 4 months, and this needs to be addressed before he starts pushing the leg work.
Altogether, it’s summertime, school’s out, and he’s able to walk the streets with his pals watching the girls go by. That’s first base for a 16 year old I suppose.

Quite right too.
Another fairly non English speaking part of Spain used to be the Costa Tropical directly South of Granada where lots of Spanish went on holiday but few English speakers — as they all headed to the Costa Del Sol.
There will be more English speakers there now but I used to love the way the “Brits” didn’t fancy it because it was too “foreign”!
Great area with fabulous food and a big moor tradition and influence.
Arcachon, Bastille celebrations, first time I ever got disgracefully pished. Bar and restaurant owners stacked crates of wine in the pavement outside their premises.
Come on! What’s a young Scots fella to do? Couldn’t smell a drink for a week without getting the boak.
If you like long walks on empty beaches, drive round to the Cap opposite the town where the beach is about 5 miles long and pretty much deserted most of the time.
