Mr Green and his invidious meetings

739

Information leaked from Charles Green that he is due to meet Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell today.  I’ve no idea if it’s true (sooo many wrong steers from over there) but, if accurate, it puts our man in an invidious position.  Mr Green appears generous when reviewing the success of meetings.

At his infamous ‘Blood on their hands’ press conference, would-be-pope-of-Ibrox, Brian Kennedy, told us “HMRC will not agree to a CVA until the very last minute”.  Why would they?  We believe Green has offered £8.5m but he has spoken about having raised £20m.  If HMRC are negotiating at all (and I have my doubts) they will want as much of that £20m as possible, and I’m sure they will, as Mr Kennedy suggested, wait until the very last minute before agreeing to anything (they won’t, b.t.w.).

None of this matters to Mr Green, he can say HMRC told him they’ll scrub the debt if he paints the Blue Room pink and no one can contradict him.  He is likely to be looking for some comfort from Mr Lawwell but I am sure he will be told that Celtic are unable to support any measure to parachute a Newco into the SPL (after his CVA fails, which it will).  Mr Green, who is also trying to maintain the support of the backers needed to commit cash by Friday, will almost certainly emerge from the meeting uttering words like “constructive”, “helpful” or maybe even “very positive”.

He is wasting his time.  Words like “sobering”, “alarming” and “downright obstinate” might be closer to the truth.

    Jonnybhoy,

“ The bowler’s Holding, the batsman’s Willey ” occurred when Michael Holding of the West Indies was bowling to Peter Willey of England in a Test match at The Oval in 1976. Johnston claimed not to have noticed saying anything odd during the match, and that he was only alerted to his gaffe by a letter from “a lady” named “Miss Mainpiece”. Barry Johnston says “It was too good a pun to resist…but Brian never actually said that he had spoken the words on air.” However, this is contradicted by an account offered by Henry Blofeld, who claims to have been present at the time.

  2. Have just been catching up and would like to make a point to James Forrest about his chat on unconditional love. I understand that you have listened to the Labour party of late and having listened, have decided to turn your back on them. I’m a bit concerned that you maybe are making a decision on how Celtic have dealt with this situation without really knowing how they have dealt with it. What you wrote was so good but I worry that such a good celtic man as yourself should feel this way . I’d love you to put a bit of faith in PL and trust he’ll do the right thing for us. having said that, I’m a glass half full type of girl and that doesn’t always sit well with everyone.

To Bonty Bouncy boy, whatever you call yourself, I’m not sure whether I need to have a wash to clean myself after reading your comments today or just have my brain scraped for wasting time reading them. Have never felt that wasy reading CQN before.

  3. i have a feeling that all is not good regarding season tickets.thats a few seasons now that there has been a decline of people watching the hoops. why is that, and maybe its time celtic football club came up with a few ideas of there own ,im sure there are plenty of things to change, any ideas

  4. Thems being granted an extension for accounts is superficially disconcerting, but is, I believe, the latest in a long, long game of chicken. By granting an extension it sounds as if they are being helped – what if they are being given enough rope to hand themselves, what if there’s more to come from Mark Daly and others? In short, this is a long game.

Any idea why they have to wait until after the cva decision? Surely if they lose the appeal then that has a significant baring on any £s in the pence deal and their ability to exit administration?

  10. Is there any liklihood that HMRC may agree a cva based on the non payment of paye and nic and then, when they have managed to avoid the newco route, hit them with demands for the big and wee tax case, thereby delaying the inevitable but ensuring that HMRC get some return??

  11. As always I could be wrong, but, doesn’t HMRC’s own regulations mean they cannot do deals on unpaid PAYE or VAT?

Anyone put me right on this?

    Thanks in advance

Personally, we are +1 in the season ticket department in my house. My daughter is now the proud owner of one. The £50 tickets for kids is brilliant. The downside was trying to get her a seat next to me, and I think that is a problem for all families, especially if you are in good seats.

I was in at CP today, and when you see the work going on in and around the stadium, and the way the landscape is changing, I think it will encourage people to come games. Parking at the new Velodrome/ Indoor Arena with the new road leading to the M74 is a big thing for me and a few others who have to arrive early/leave early because of congestion. The new Dalmarnock station upgrade will help as well.

Driving up Springfield Rd, the new houses are being built for the athletes village and should again change the whole face of that particular area. Again, parking spaces will be more available as a result of this. Accessibility is an issue we could do more of as a club to help with on match days.

Somewhere decent to get a pint wouldn’t go amiss either!

Bampot News. New rules In Scottish Football state that any failure to adhere to strict rules would mean strict new rules to be adhered to.!”

  15. Someone correct me If I’m wrong, but why would HMRC negotiate or meet with anyone over the tax bill unless it was either an owner or in this case someone from the administrators? After all they are the ones in charge of the club, not Green, Blue or King o’ the trucks. There has to be some degree of confidentiality.

All this bluster from the MSM is just that and they have been doing it for years, so why even give them the time of day?

Whether Lenny sells Ki or not depends on whether he wants a shot at European success.

Ki is not made for the SPL but in the European arena only Fraser and Sammi are more valuable imo. His touch and passing radar are important ingredients. This is the dilemma facing all Celtic managers., whose first priority must be the SPL – meaning tough, albeit uncultured, players, with attitude in abundance. Next season promises to be different.

Celtic are severely understrength when it comes to competing with European sides. Will the probable lack of challenge next season, however, mean the Celtometer can point to more of the Kis, less of the Browns?

  17. RRC,

I don’t have the text to hand but I think it says not normally or the like rather than never.

But why would they set a precedent that a company can decide not to pay its tax as it should and then be rewarded by having most of the debt written off?

What’s missing from Sardine’s account of their “greatest” moment on Barcelona 1972 ?:

“Then they got a goal, which didn’t put us under a lot of pressure but they scored a good goal with about three minutes to go. It caused a bit of nervousness but I never felt we were ever going to lose the final. On the night we were a better team than them.

“The final whistle went and the fans came on. We were trying to get to the dressing room and the Spanish police came and drew batons and forced them off the pitch. That was the unsavoury part.

“The police were totally out of order. These people were coming on to celebrate with the team and the Spanish police over-reacted and they drew their batons and started to beat them all. We were down in the dressing room, we didn’t see that, we only heard about it.”

What’s also noticeable is the police being “out of order” mantra. Certainly older than Pamplona’s and Villareal’s trials.

Wonder if the have a big manual that they consult when they do-what-they-do ?

  24. So now the deadline of 31st March for providing accounts becomes meaningless – any team not making it can simply say please can we extend to the 15th June – becasue SPL do not “fear or favour” anyone they would have to grant that request – tthe deadline therefore effectively becomes 15th June – until it is extended again!
