Nerves jangle a week ahead of Europe

890

You and I have been through a few close seasons together, so  it’s no surprise we have this uncomfortable feeling as we look ahead to (hopefully) four hugely important Champions League qualifiers while contemplating how ring-rusty Celtic have looked preseason.  These games really don’t matter, of course, they are there to allow us to experiment and build fitness for the real challenges ahead, but you would rather we were turning teams over 4-0 than being on the receiving end.  Evidence, perhaps, that the experiments were leading somewhere.

Lots of coverage today of the fall-out from Friday’s meeting between the SFA and Sevco, some of it informed.  Huge issues clearly still remain before they will be granted permission to join the SFA but they would not be helped by their prospective manager, Ally McCoist, walking away this week.   Sevco have not sold many season tickets but if McCoist goes their chances of doing to will become increasingly scarce. Friday’s comment from McCoist sounded like a scene-setter for a resignation letter.

Great in depth post, thanks so much.

I have absolutely no idea who Ken Mure is, but I am comforted by your trusted assessment the the right man for the job is in place, which makes this long, drawn out process, a bit more bearable knowing that no stone will be left unturned.

I hope that Alex Thompson will excercise a wee bit of restraint, possibly turning his attentions on the “Dual contracts” issue or possibly a wee holiday…He does deserve it , he has been immense in all of this.

I would like to thank you too, for all your efforts throughout. You too have been absolutely first class.

I take your point. However no-one on the blog can catergorically state they know what Celtics plans are for the remainder of the transfer window, (which has about 6 weeks left to run) in all likelihood NL has been identifying targets at CB since Fojuts move became unworkable and having rid the squad of deadwood there should be cash to spend .

The main point of my earlier post was that some on the site had me recalling the biscuit tin mentality of the old board “They’ll be no panic buying…just panic”. Don’t panic mate.

While I don’t think the squad is good enough to get into group stage I’m confident they’ll beat HJK and we’ll see what happens after that.

The warning regarding Hercules and the Hydra is duly noted— and presumably given because when Hercules chopped of the heads of the Hydra, two more heads would appear in the place of the one that was chopped off?

However, there were some that did not believe that Hercules deserved any great credit for his fight with the Hydra, and the writer and traveller Pausanius virtually dismissed the dreaded Hydra as no more than a “Big Water Snake” of little consequence.

Given the existence of what until recently might have been described as a big Water Snake– or should that be “Walter” snake– which now appears to have many heads and factions after it has been laid low and slaughtered by its own misdeeds– I wonder if in future Celtic Football Fans could be described as doing the ” Pausan” ius as opposed to the alledged Posnan?

Either way, the big snake is dead!

re: all this talk regatding bangura…i heard a worrying story on him from an ex-celt at rge week-end, seemingly we forgot to re-new his work permit and as such we need to start all over again and due to injury no longer meets the criteria, maybe rubbish, but the player was adamant…

I am not convinced that we should be experimenting anything in a match against the Dutch Champions. But this is what happens when you do not have the players you know you need, Ledley plays left back, Wanyama centre back or even full back, etc etc etc. Both those players are midfield players. We would all agree that we had, maybe even still have, too many players on the books, but not enough quality in defence or attack. Not not any, just not enough. Even so, since then, Cha is gone, Mark Wilson too, as well as Darren O’Dea, Glen Loovens and Dan Majstorovic. That is five players light no matter how you look at it, and while you could class it good housekeeping, only time will tell whether it is good management or not. Couple of injuries at the back, and there will be a few SPL forwards that will give us problems, never mind Champions Leagues opponents. The Battered Bunnett calculated that there is potentially 25 million euros available just for playing in the group stage of the CL, and there would also be a chance of dropping down into the Europa League. That has got to worth investing in a couple of players beforehand isn’t it?

Maybe just a sign that they have not moved with the times, and there are much better Celtic sites around.

  14. Ragers are buying St Mirren,Brian kennedy is the new saviour, Ally wull hiv a watchest the size of Russia, they will play in the SPL, they will sign lots of pure brilliant playurs, the will play in the Champions League too and get to the final where they will play Barcelona winning on penalties to being the big cup back to Ibrox and they wull huv mullions and mullions of money tae spend next year so they wull…

  16. What happened to Dundee’s invitation to join the SPL on 16/07/12, –

are they still terrified to update the fixtures list due yon ‘social unrest’?

  17. The rumour is that St Mirren will rent Ibrox, and allow Rangers to play at Love Street.

    Get it?

  18. With the current state of finances in general; for punters and clubs, how wise is it of Celtic to raise kids’ season tickets from £50 to £129? I take the view that someone at Celtic Park has badly misjudged the potential impact of such a hike in admission price.

As I understand at this time, Dundee FC has yet to be formally notified of their SPL status. However remote the chances; the SPL may yet be contested by only 11 clubs. In any event, with the product in question being diluted; would it not be best if that every effort at Celtic Park is made to attract the future life blood of the club?

Whatever the logic is behind the increase in kids ST; I would urge the bean counters to revert to the lower pricing so to encourage future audience participation in the numbers accustomed to in recent years.
