No one offered Celtic job yet

1032

Roy Keane is due at a press conference in Dublin this afternoon and he is sure to be asked about Daily Mail reports this afternoon that he is set to be appointed Celtic manager as early as tomorrow.

It’s pretty clear Celtic have spoken to Keane but NO ONE HAS THE JOB YET, the Club are still speaking to a number of candidates.

We’re going to remain hostages to news reports for a while. The sooner things are sorted the better.

If you missed it earlier………

  1. LennyBhoy, if Keane gets the gig there will be a fair few extra ST’s sold.

I think Petrescu and Malky will do well if either gets the job.

    Hmmmmmm.

If it was in my gift, Petrescu. I think we would see a sea change in how we play.

But I’m not going to grumble if any one of those is appointed, tomorrow preferably.

I wonder if any other candidates, unknown to all so far.

    An interesting day ahead.

The way had runs CFC provides us with evidence of that every day …..

    ===================================

    Yup.

And it appears we’re about to see the technique in action –

appointing a new manager, grabbing all the headlines, and not having to provide aforesaid witha vast budget; parlay has been had, code is understood, Roy as figurehead, will do what he must with what the Pirate Chief allocates.

With Stevie Clarke or Petrescu in as coach for day-to-day evolution on-field?

  3. PaddyPower have

    Keane at 1/8

but Pope Francis has drifted to 1500/1

Amazing considering Mowbray is quoted at 300/1

Now if I was a betting man I’d bet Pope Francis is a better manager than Mowbray!

After seeing St Martins body language in that press conference there’s only one outcome.

He looked resigned to the fact he is looking for an assistant manager.

  5. I would imagine that Roy Keane will only take the job if he is guaranteed a sizeable transfer kitty. This could work out well as long as the money is well spent. The Keane name could still attract decent players I hope.

    ………….

I was around at the time but no memories, so I bow to yir superior erm years ok knowledge :>)

I’d say though if Jock was a candidate now, some CQN’ers would be dead against, it’s the way of the blog innit.

    HH

    ********

Yea, Big Jock was the exception.

Remember, for a generation, Kelly/ Mc.Grory were in charge and we only had two before them in our history, so it was big news.

Jock ticked most of the known boxes, except of course the one that he burst open.

But, you are correct, if it was now, too many personal agendas would come into play, plus egos and there would be naysayers.

    PS.

” Nice” men don’t make great managers.

  7. JJ

“The Celtic statement is a haven of sanity in a maelstrom of uninformed conjecture.”

Can’t be. I was assured earlier that Celtic are behind all the rumour making in order to soften us up.

All the guys on here posting their rumours, including MadMitch with his Mick McCarthy rumour, are obviously just Peter Lawwell spinning their stuff. Don’t know why I never saw through it earlier.

  8. Of you are a Celtic player, youth through to an experienced Pro and you hear Roy Keane is likely to be your next Manager would you get any sleep tonight!?!

  9. Hrvatski Jim

If Keane is appointed, I will give him the benefit of my huge doubt but I would not expect longevity.

    ===================

As I speculated above, I reckon on a full-time coach (‘assistant manager’)taking care of the first team daily dutires.

Keano as emperor. A.N.other as Doctore to take care of the Ludus.

  10. IF,I say IF,RK gets the job at Dermotts say so,it could be a good thing.I would imagine one of the pre-requisites from RK would be a decent transfer kitty for the CL.A concerted push to keep our top players a bit longer.I cant see him uprooting his family, taking on the Celtic job, with the previous restraints, and policies.

For some of the anti RK mob, just what exactly did Moyes do at Everton in 10 years. You dont want RK,yet many advocating Paul Hartley,Jackie Mac.

One thing about RK.He is respected throughout the football world. His reputation is bombproof. He has the stature in the game.

  11. SFTB

    My mistake 0:-)

Anyway, BBC3 calls. ” England`s worst ever football side.” Should be a laugh. Wonder how that kind of programme would play out in Scotland !!

  12. I take back what I said this morning (Moyes and McClair). We are all allowed to be wrong.

    Keane & McClair.

  13. Any bookies offering a price on Lenny as next ROI assistant manager?

    Worth a punt!

  14. Stringer Bell on

It doesn’t take an awful lot of money to move the odds in a new manager book, coupe of hundred quid sets every bookie in a spin.

That said, the post that has registered with me was the one above, re MON’s presser. Never saw it, did he indicate Keane was joe the toff?

  15. Keane’s name is in the hat, nothing more and nothing less, We all have our favourites and our prejudices’s but as Tiny Tim said earlier we are all Celtic Supporters. We follow the team regardless of who is in the starting line up or who is the Manager. Whoever gets the job should be given a fair bit of time to make his mark and be judged on what he does at and for Celtic. Whoever gets the job will have my full support and best wishes.

  16. Surprised that we never discuss that billionaire …. Yes a billionaire in the region of $2,000,000,000 about 64 years worth of seconds … Not that much less than the owner of Chelsea (This is not your average multimillionaire) runs the club it a relatively small time way

Tbh the desire to play in the epl is not backed up.

Like everyone else I will back rk if he gets the role but we should be competing for the very best of what is available in every department. I’m not saying he should throw all his cash away but …..

tom molach- was Brian McClair the guy you posted about ? And is he in the frame as RK assistant, if he gets the job ? HH

  22. Stringer – just watched the presser.

He’s had an informal ‘chat’, presumably the others have too…….

  23. ‘the disappointment with Roy’s departure will be felt by everyone’

This is what MoN said at the presser earlier.

Another poster, IGI I think, posted earlier today that he had info that the new Celtic assistant manager would be a former Celtic player currently coaching in England.

Brian McClair would tick both of those boxes……

  25. Evening all,

Davie Moyes has won hee-haw. He is a football loser. No thanks. He also refers to himself in the third person which ensures that he cannot surely be a candidate.

Malky Mackay doesn’t get my juices flowing(not that they should flow though) but Keane does moisten up places which shouldn’t be moistened, this is because of his charisma and personality. The man is dynamite. Just like George Galloway used to be. The league will be garbage so we need an entertainer as well as a football tactician. However, if Roy won’t move his fearsome brood up to Paradise then he ought not to be considered. We need full commitment.

It is difficult to believe that one or two on here don’t like Keane because he is arrogant. What boulderdash. Keane is entitled to be arrogant for goodness sake – wouldn’t you be if you achieved what he did? Remember Aiden’s inept performance at Old Trafford when he looked like a little lost boy? Had he been pumped with arrogance and belief, he may well have made an impression but sadly he had neither. Winners need a streak of arrogance.

  26. IMO the only thing that will prevent Roy Keane being next Celtic manager is if David Moyes says yes to the job.
