No one offered Celtic job yet

1032

Roy Keane is due at a press conference in Dublin this afternoon and he is sure to be asked about Daily Mail reports this afternoon that he is set to be appointed Celtic manager as early as tomorrow.

It’s pretty clear Celtic have spoken to Keane but NO ONE HAS THE JOB YET, the Club are still speaking to a number of candidates.

We’re going to remain hostages to news reports for a while. The sooner things are sorted the better.

If you missed it earlier………

So with the official club statement declaring the club are working through candidates……… Does that mean RK has said, ‘Thanks, but no….’?

  5. So does the club statement mean “You lot know nothing”. Or maybe “There are names you lot don’t even have yet”

Or is it just a “Leave us alone. We will tell you when there is something happening”

    vhman,

There wasn’t a Celtic supporter around at the time, who didn’t crave Jock’s return to Celtic as Manager.

He arrived on my 21st birthday.

    Some present, eh?

Personally, I have no favourite candidate for the job.

It is only after a man has been in the job that you can judge his merit.

Anything else is just prejudicial verbal flatulence! : > )

“Whenever the new man is appointed, it will be Celtic who make the announcement, possibly to the AIM”.

    An interesting point.

It’s strange there was no AIM announcement when Neil left.

    An oversight perhaps?

Getting the Republic gig, gave Roy Keane the chance to get his managerial, as opposed to his media, career back on the road, moreso in teaming up with Martin O’Neil. That job, like Gordon Strachan’s combines the two areas, and is bringing out the best of WGS. That said I wouldn’t mind seeing a match between Strachan and McGhee on one side and O’Neil and Keane on the other. At Celtic Park.

Let us have a high profile on SSN when we quality out of the Champions league group in December.

I am not interested in being on SSN in the close season.

    =================================================

You miss the point. SSN is not my point.

    Profile; That is the point.

As a brand profiling exercise Roy Keane is the best we can get – DD is not a billionaire through luck.

Keane puts Celtic on everyone’s lips, globally. The names Roy Keane and Glasgow Celtic, synonymous, means interest EVERYWHERE.

This will not be a footballing appointment, it will be primarily a marketing appointment.

    Tom molach,

I thought the same thing when Neil left. Strange.

  14. eddieinkirkmichael on

Not convinced a decision has been made yet but for me only 3 in the running Keane, Petrescu and McKay.

DD has made his choice so I think Keane may be favourite but will he take it?

I’d prefer Petrescu but I don’t think what I want counts TBH ;)

thunder road- good post but do you think Keane will accept players on an accountant’s say so ? HH

    —————————-

I do not know what involvement PL, JP or NL had in the signing of players.

Maybe THE final word was PL,s?

IF there is to be no change in that trio apart from who replaces NL, then i imagine that same policy will continue, unless our new manager demands more of the say so.

Like i said…..i think Keane would know the score before he signs on the dotted line.

I think these things maybe have a wee honeymoon period as well though and once that ink is dry…..and especially if things are not working out as hoped(champs league qualification)…..then the new manager might want to review that set-up!

Hopefully that wont be when it becomes an issue though!

!!Bada Bing!!……would you like Roy Keane to be our new manager….and if not…..who would you prefer?

The way had runs CFC provides us with evidence of that every day …..

  17. I would still be very surprised if Roy Keane is appointed.

I am certain that he will make demands of the PLC in terms of budget that they would be unwilling to accept.

If they cave in and agree then it is a big slap in the face for Neil.

Interesting times but one thing is for sure Roy will not accept 2nd best and demand the funds he feels he needs!

The Roy Keane effect – story beginning to dominate SSN; perhaps the biggest plus in appointing him – we become big news again despite the southern indifference to scottish football.

    —————————————-

That is undoubtedly true, Roy Keane will bring us exposure, but I would doubt if it was a major factor, more a bonus ball.

  19. Well if the breaking RK news tells us anything;

    1) DD let’s the world (and his dug) know he’s calling the shots!

    2) He maximises CFC profile (on the coat-tails of the WC bandwagon).

    3) He slaps down the SPFL Championship hype.

    4) He replaces Lenny with another candidate that will ‘circle the wagons’ fan-wise.

    5) He gives PL’s Marketing Dept a timely S/tkt boost.

Now if memory serves me correct – this would be in line with his oft quoted ‘5 year plan’ strategy (using the mathematical equation: 1xBTM+4xNL=5).

Will be interesting to check the ‘olde’ share price tomorrow morning.

DD is a wealthy man through judgement.

Knowing when to hold them, knowing when to fold them.

He is the same as many on here, he likes a punt and backs his hunches.

The only difference is that get is better at it than the bookies’ sponsors who reside here.

Maybe that is the problem; good old fashioned jealousy and begrudgery.

    It’s an Irish thing!!

  23. !!Bada Bing!! on

thunder road- thanks for reply,Keane next to Larsson is the moneyspinner, i don’t think any of them are the right fit just now.A foriegn coach who can coach a team to play in different styles was my utopian thought,so Yakin would have been my choice. Clarke or Mackay would have been fine by me too.Excellent CQN’r Praecepta pointed out Laudrup always has a release clause, which would be a worry. On the whole,i think time is right for a change,i am glad it is now and not somebody trying to get NL 2 days before a CLQ.HH

    Hi Sandman

I have lived through high profile appointments at Celtic and other clubs. There was a club which plied its trade around Glasgow and got all the brand profile it wanted from the press. Fat lot of good it did it the end.

Give me a solid football tactician who will take us forward, one step at a time if necessary. If Keane is appointed, I will give him the benefit of my huge doubt but I would not expect longevity.
