No one offered Celtic job yet

1032

Roy Keane is due at a press conference in Dublin this afternoon and he is sure to be asked about Daily Mail reports this afternoon that he is set to be appointed Celtic manager as early as tomorrow.

It’s pretty clear Celtic have spoken to Keane but NO ONE HAS THE JOB YET, the Club are still speaking to a number of candidates.

We’re going to remain hostages to news reports for a while. The sooner things are sorted the better.

If you missed it earlier………

IMO,not a chance of Roy Keane becoming manager.

Unless PL leaves first. I don’t think he will want a manager he can’t control.

    —————————————–

    Spot on.

    —————————————-

Keane is more of a loose cannon than GS and NL but those 2 were no fools and took the job on knowing what their remit was.

IF Keane is to be our new manager, he will know what his is too before he accepts it.

Does that mean he is controlled?

    I don’t think so.

Will he stick to that remit?

    Who knows!

1 thing that a lot of fans have wanted is for the club to not stand for the nonsense from the msm and something tells me Keane wont.

GS had disdain for some of them and NL probably did too but i feel Neil kinda had to be much more diplomatic and less inflammatory because of the hatred that pursued him.

1 thing that our manager will require is an incredibly strong character.

I would say Roy Keane fits the bill.

Does he have too many flaws?

Is he too strong minded/pig headed?

I guess that is part of the chemistry of such men.

If PL controlling the manager means his budget, who signs players…..or offers them contracts……then Keane will know what is on the table before he, or ANY manager takes the job.

Does that mean they are controlled?

    Not to me.

Keano would not be my personal choice but there are potential positives:

    1) He’ ‘ABC‘

    2) His managerial record is not astounding but perhaps not as bad as often described – reasonable job at Sunderland if less so at Ipswich

    3) I thought NFL was a mistake and was badly mistaken

    4) He’s a footballing legend and will still command respect

    5) Another self-assured Irishman (unrepentent fenian?) who will stick it to the bigoted hordes and their pals in the MSSM

If its Roy he is welcome and gets my backing….

    Keano!

  3. So…we have an opportunity to have a new manager…and we will discuss how this process will take shape

    so what

    lets just focus for moment…

how about….the manager will be appointed on merits determined by our bourd….the board we appointed….

they will find a canditate tb

hat will be affordable and football suitable to our means…full stop….nothing anyone else can do about this

yes….we should have had trasparent stategy in place to make sure us “normal” stake holders are inforwmed and educated of moves afoot…..what large company does this?

Get used to it….its the norm nowadays….not right….nor wrong…..just the norm..

yes it generates opinion …but always has done

    how about this

who ever the new manager is….he/she…gets the 100% support of 100% of the support…how unique would that be

we are differrent ..we are celtic…we are one ….like no other..lets wait and see how we are able to adapt to this…then judge and decide if the board got it wrong or right….or the candidate is genuine or not…or the strategy is corrrect or not(dependent on opinion or not)…..wedo do have time on our side….and we are ….no matter what….a very attractive club to be assciated with

just get behind the club for a change….division is easy….lets try that wee bit harder to see if the club can make at least some of our dreams come true….now ….more than any time lately….our club needs us

  4. When Neil decided to leave I wanted Celtic to go for someone with European managerial experience, someone with a proven track record managing a football playing team and who was not necessarily a Celtic fan.

Hopefully It might still happen as nothing has yet been decided –

    Maybe my expectations were unrealistic.

  6. mullet and co 2 on

Roy Keanes main selling point seems to be his hard man persona with the press. If we wanted a PR Rambo why not hire one of those.

Keane would be a fair ground attraction. This is Celtic not some circus act.

Before anyone thinks this is an over reaction … Keane might win the league but so could I.

I’ll say it again, he spent £80 million at Sunderland. That’s 80. He will be lucky to get 8 over two years at Celtic and that’s if he sells first. Mind you if this is a Dermot Desmond vanity project he might loosen the purse strings for Roy but who would Roy go for? Anton Ferdinand? He spent £8m on him before?

If Roy arrives you can rip up the previous 4 years progress. Expect huge compensation and wasted money.

Season tickets will be up as those who enjoy their football waged in debate with journalists and sticking it to the man will turn up en masse.

Following speculation concerning the managers position at Celtic, the club can confirm that it is currently continuing its discussions with a number of excellent candidates.

We will continue this process and select who we regard as the best appointment for Celtic. We will update our supporters as soon as this process is complete

Keane would be a fair ground attraction.

Exactly what DD wants. Keep the profile high on Sky Sports and in England in general.

  14. I just want it to be a bout the fitba’………..for once. at least for a while.

The on-field rather than anything else.

The football, the style of play, the insight, the choice of players. I see that as a segue to a different playing environment.

I want us ‘fishally to move well beyond the scoddish sectarian framework, ( leave the hun agenda to the huns) if it is Roy they’ll still hype the hun thing ‘fishally – whereas not so easy to do if it is Juan Tanamera or somesuch…..

We are bigger than that now.

    HH

  15. If all it took to be a Celtic manager was that they were Irish and a fan, I imagine there would be plenty wanting the job. I don’t think the negatives, which most Irish supporters are even more aware of than we Scots, that Keane exhibits, make for a good manager. Sure, he walked out on the Republic during a World Cup. Nah.

hi long time lurker here, just looking for bit of advice had a phone call a couple of hours ago

from asian sounding lady wanting to buy my dads cfc shares.

was talking about hostile takeover of celtic by somebody she wouldnt name.

anybody got any idea what the scam is? or what`s going on?

ive got know idea how she got my name or phone no, but she was aware that my dad had died, and shares havent been transferred to anybody else(yet)

    HH

there was a similar question asked not long ago and my recollection is that it was spurious

but no concrete proof, however if there was an imminent hostile takeover I confident we have read about it here

    HH

  17. The same could be said for 99% of managers in the EPL, they buy crap for stupid money.

I can’t see the club changing their scouting policy, any manager will have to work under the same constraints as Lenny.

    doc,

As late as 5.45 this evening, RK was out on the pitch in the Aviva Stadium, in training gear, supervising the players.

Whenever the new man is appointed, it will be Celtic who make the announcement, possibly to the AIM, not the candidate.

  22. The Roy Keane effect – story beginning to dominate SSN; perhaps the biggest plus in appointing him – we become big news again despite the southern indifference to scottish football.

  23. ttt

    Maybes he was.

I can’t help wondering tho, why MoN said there was ” disappointment with Roy’s departure will be felt by everyone”

  24. Quite hostile first thoughts in Roy Keane as Manager.

Got to agree with the folks our leader included re courtesy calls.

RK and MO’N we’re talking of the possibility at the weekend – DD would speak to them out of courtesy, whether it goes further than that who knows.

For me it would be a huge job for RK, failure is not an option he’d envisage.

That said unless we get Steve Clarke or some other top quality, European experienced coach it will be an opportunity missed.

Time will tell – hopefully not too long though.

  25. !!Bada Bing!! on

PFayr- some of those you mentioned won’t see the 2nd week of pre-season hopefully.

  26. I need help.

I got a phone call there offering me a 3g football club in glasgow for the price of a pound.

I am suspicious was this not a scam in govan a while back.

But the Yorkshire man on the phone said ut made millions for him and his mates.

I am not interested in being on SSN in the close season.
