Nothing will change in Scotland

278

When the texts began to fly in about the penalty at Ibrox last night I had no appetite to watch the incident.  I am 54 years old and have seen it all before.  These things do not enrage me the way they once did, it only serves as a reminder of our position in this land.  Get angry, if that’s your thing, but do not kid yourself, nothing will change until we escape the Shoddy Sanctum of Scotland.  Still, we are a well run professional operation and our peers are clowns, so we enjoy frequent upsides.

Celtic were sensational at Easter Road.  The speed the ball was passed between our front four made them unliveable.  It was reminiscent of the destruction of Dundee and the League Cup game against Hearts earlier this season.

Tom Rogic’s frame is not that of a classic dribbler, but he is so fleet of foot and mind that he slipped through defenders as though they were statues.  He found willing runners in Kyogo, Mikey Johnston and Jota.  All Hibs could do is kick and stamp, to the injury of Tom, Kyogo and Callum McGregor.  Hopefully all three are fit for Saturday.  A more protective referee would have helped, by I refer you to the earlier Shoddy Sanctum.

For all the delightful passing, Hibs scored and broke through twice more.  Joe Hart was there to keep the game comfortable; such a change from last season’s debacles.

Some context: we started October six points adrift, without an away in the league win since February and with visits to Aberdeen, Motherwell and Hibs pending.  Despite everything, we have closed that gap to two points.  You really must believe us, we’re going to win the league!

Scott Brown, ha!  How many times has he owned Ibrox?  Still doing it, the only surprise was he didn’t have shades on when he headed that goal.

  1. Having read Brian Wilson’s piece in the guardian about the late , Walter Smith, nothing this board of ours does now would surprise me.

Wilson and his like need effing chased. For a Celtic Director to demonstrate such ignorance of both footballing and corporate law by peddling pish about rangers being demoted as a punishment is simply disgraceful.

  2. I have had many spats on social forums with Brian Wilson over Independence however having witnessed first had the abuse he has taken from the ignorant and great unwashed around the directors box at Ibrox (pies and other projectiles as well as verbal) I will cut him slack on a mistake he may have made in his summation of Walter Smiths (he actually has a surname) life.

Brian’s crime for these guys was as a Protestant from such a strong anti catholic stronghold as he came from that he was the ultimate traitor in their eyes by being a director of Celtic. Never mind writing an official history of the club.

  3. What is far more important and actually relevant is the transport to and from Parkhead tomorrow.

Transport is a nightmare at the best of times, but with road closures, demonstrations and flooding it will be exasperated.

I would wager that this is more of a priority for attending supporters.

HH. PS : Cop 26 is causing vehicle emissions to rocket. No coherent thought or planning evident.

I was hospitalised after being attacked by hun fans whilst leaving Ibrox. Joe Craig scored the winner.

I think that trumps the pies thrown at Brian Wilson.

But I don’t talk complete pish about the huns history.

Nothing more to say on this issue,

  5. An Dun,

Once you chase Brian Wilson, just who would you like as our replacement director

    Someone from PIF perhaps ?

It’s perfectly understandable. The cult hate him with a passion because he tells the truth about them. The thing about the huns in his obit for Walter Smith was the version of history that Celtic have bought into. It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.

That’s exactly the point for me!

Why is he even mentioning events from 2012 in an obituary for Walter Smith, who left Rangers in 2011?

Absolutely ZERO relevance to the subject!

What about a politician from the SNP?

Maybe one of the ones who campaigned against their Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012, the legislation they introduced to target Celtic fans and to ‘even up the score’.

No doubt the cult supporters on here will provide us with a list of suitable candidates, because for the life of me I can’t think of a single SNP candidate who would fit the bill.

He’s not daft, he knows the score re “rangers”/Sevco.

Wilson, like the rest of the board and former players like Lambert/Bonner/Commons/Walker/Nicholas and the rest know exactly what they are doing.re the “Old Firm” and the death of Rangers.

BIG JIMMY, the very first time I sat in the cinema to watch Lord of the Rings and the first orc appeared on screen I immediately said “Alex Rae” and burst out laughing. I thought I had said it into myself, but the guy in front turned to me and gave me a big, big grin!

  13. Pretty much everything has been said about the Brian Wilson situation. I will only add that if an historian cannot get his facts right (especially regarding an historical event that he had lived through and witnessed) then that historian cannot be trusted!

  14. Point of order.

Demotion is the opposite of promotion. In football terms it refers to moving down a league (or more). It may also be synonymous with relegation except that relegation is “earned” by league position, whereas demotion infers being moved down the league(s) regardless of final position in the league.

It does not mean moving down a position (or more) within the same league.

A points deduction due to entering administration can result in loss of league position, unless the team is already enough points ahead of the next team.

It can also cause a team to be relegated if the points deduction causes that team to finish low enough in their league.

Demotion cannot refer to two different teams at the same time.

  15. I think, and it will not be the first time, by a country mile, that he has been misquoted, and for him to come out and rebuke would cause him, and his family untold horrors, only my opinion folks, not fact, por cierto

Can’t argue with one word of that sir , we are still attending in huge numbers due to our love for the club , each and everyone of us can see what’s going on and being allowed to go on . We are paying into a stacked deck . Imho our custodians are trying to pull the wool over our eyes ,they need the new club , you only needed to listen to our absent landlords interview on the golf course fulsome in praise of that mob across the city , would have made you puke what a scunner of a guy . yet the choice is ours to make do we pack in following our club , or do what most of us are doing and bite the bullet and continue to follow what we were born into knowing full well the sixty thousand that manage to get into Celtic park and the hundred of thousands worldwide are doing so under the total control of that Irishman . We will be champions again this season if HE wants us to be , that’s our dilema .HH

  17. Couldn’t help but notice that on the adjacent page to Brian Wilson’s obituary of Walter Smith in the Guardian was one of that great Canadian humorist and satirist Mort Sahl. In the light of the former it seems apropos to pararphrase the latter…..

“Walter Smith couldn’t tell a lie, David Murray couldn’t tell the truth,

and Brian Wilson couldn’t tell the difference”

I copied and pasted the quote as given by the St. Anthony twitter page. Their excerpt from the obituary was in quotation marks and so I assume that they copied it word form word from the obituary form The Guardian. I am not a spokesman for the St. Anthony twitter account but it seems to me that there was no mis quoting. I have not seen the original, published piece but I’m sure it is easy to verify if he was misquoted or not. To date more than 24 hours later no one has yet to prove that he was misquoted etc.

  19. Until now, I had nothing but respect for Brian Wilson. I enjoyed his history of Celtic. I do believe he is a genuine supporter but in his obituary in the Guardian (hasn’t that newspaper history in suppressing stuff about Res 12?), he seems to have unnecessarily spouted a misleading version of events surrounding the death of the team who played out of Ibrox. Imo, he was parroting (again unnecessarily) the Board’s position. Whether he would have been safe giving a proper reflection of events is another matter altogether. That is a question so many Celtic men in the media sheer away from, imo.

Seems to me the continuation myth … and our club’s “apparent” general, public acceptance of the revisionism …. rankles and grates chunks of our support to this day?

I bear absolutely no ill will to Brian Wilson.

To be honest, he hasn’t really crossed my mind this millennium.

(Last millennium, I thought he wasn’t a bad lad. Maybe he still is)

    On this particular issue? …..

Walter Smith (RIP) wasn’t the Rangers manager when they were liquidated.

    He wasn’t a factor.

And a wee while after they were formed, he temporarily joined Sevco.

Why Brian Wilson chose to reference these events in an otherwise fitting tribute to a competitor is beyond me.

  24. Interesting debate re Brian Wilson, quite timely as the AGM in only a couple of weeks away. As the club consumes a huge part of our lives, it is only human nature that we will talk night and day between the 90 minutes of the actual stuff on the pitch.

From the Instutute of Directors, the role of the non-executive directors :

“Essentially the non-executive director’s (NED) role is to provide a creative contribution to the board by providing independent oversight and constructive challenge to the executive directors.”

Can we say that Tom Allison, Ian Bankier, DD, Sharon Brown, and Brian Wilson all do the above ? TBH, I have absolutely no idea. From the outside looking in, and with apologies to Sharon, it appears to be a cozy gentleman’s club. Get the club tie and blazer, attend seven formal board meeting a year ( with DD sending his representative on earth).

Perhaps it’s time for some fresh talent. The want-a-ways have left the pitch, the NED-a-ways need to leave the boardroom.
