Ogilvie was born for this moment as SFA to consider expelling Rangers

877

Although Rangers won their case at the Court of Session today, they have the option not to serve the ruling on the SFA that its Judicial Panel’s 12 month ban on player registration is illegal.  Winning the point in law might sound like a victory, but taking the Association to court breaks membership rules of the SFA, rules imposed on all associations by Fifa.

We will find out soon enough the reach of SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, who was one of the recipients of an EBT which precipitated Rangers crisis.

Rangers are deep in Sion territory now.  Either they walk away from this showdown, the SFA expel or suspend them from football, or Fifa will shortly remind the SFA of their duties when a member club takes action in the civil courts.

Campbell Ogilvie was born for this moment; it justifies him holding onto his position all these months despite being “heavily conflicted”, according to his chief executive.  I do not expect this to end well.

Despite an independent judicial panel ruling against Rangers, there is no way the office holders at the SFA will expel Rangers, no matter what they do. They would rather jeopardise the Scotland national team and every other club’s European participation.

  1. Appears today’s court of session activity has had a very positive effect.

UEFA/FIFA now beginning to take notice.

Now the real fun begins :)

    Mate,

Most of us were brought up with a particular bias,be it religious, political even gender.

The great trick, imho, is the constant questioning of the feelings and attitudes we learned as kids.

You are obviously well and truly on that road.

As you say, finding the truth can be very difficult.

I always think that an open mind really helps.

However,as someone once said to me: ” So you can shovel in shit ? ”

  4. How will yesterday’s decision effect today’s vote – if ever there was a case for postponing a decision ! – the SFA and SPL should be fully focussed tomorrow on finding a way of ensuring Scottish football continues as a part of UEFA/FIFA – never mind punishing hypothetical Newcos!

  5. As others have said the first section on Newsnight was a complete joke. Why bring on these so called experts when you would have been just as well getting 2 people out of the nearest pub. The guy from London had clearly just rolled into to the studio and been briefed by a FF poster. The woman was all over the place.

It comes down to this, the Duffers are treating creditors as if they are complete fools. Once they have taken their back handers, there is £5m in the pot. But here look if we liquidated and sold these assets valued at £100m on the balance sheet you would only get £4.5m for them. Honest – trust your Uncle Billy.

Aye right, HMRC will only fall for that if they are got at.

He always seems to play well for Ireland on the international stage, never panics, regardless of the calibre of the opposition players that he face, just quietly goes about his business, other players hit him and he hits them back.Never shouts, complains or argues though.

The neo cons in America have a brilliant way of dealing with facts.

They have no shame, “We will tell you the truth, as and when we decide what it will be, and you will believe it. And when we decide to change what the truth is, we will tell you, and you will believe it”.

That’s true but, let’s face it, it was also true of Soviet Russia from 1917 on. The problem now is that in the West – particularly in the US and UK – extremist free marketeers are in the driving seat. In this country a privileged elite exercises a frightening degree of power and influence over 80% of the population – and that’s the way they want it to stay.

The underlyng rule on which football depends on being inviolate is that “the referee is always right” (even when he is wrong). Eveyone accepts that because if they did not results would be changing after games on a regular basis. It has its faults for sure but it stops chaos.

This is why FIFA wish this principle to stand for the governance of football, but have also put in place an appeals system within the game to satisfy the natural justice requirement to have an appeals process.

The SFA played the game according to the rules of natural justice and Rangers, unsurprisingly want to play the game by their own rules in spite of being covered by and agreeing that football rules.

Whatever the sanction is for not accepting the referee is always right (even when wrong) has now to be applied.

Seriously, I know who he is then, good enough for Ireland, good enough for Celtic.

I remember having an argument with a right good Tim, he told me that paul Lambert wasn’t Celtic class………………….

There were many who said Chris Sutton wasn’t Celtic class, same goes for BBJ, I could go on and on.

Some even said who the eff was Henke.

AoW, just my suspicious mind wondering if all this charade is being stage managed.

    Who’d have thunk it.

I must be wrong ……….. Surely???

  17. Auld Heid – sanctions have to be applied but I believe that the SFA will state that their case will be dealt with, say, on the 16th June, hoping (again) that the decision will be decided without their influence. Can anyone tell me on what basis ANY of the extensions/deadlines have been set? The current incumbents at the SFA don’t do microwave, more burning twigs on a campfire.

I do believe however that this situation might be taken out of their hands if they are not seen to act in a manner that promotes (alleged) FIFA standards.

Noticed that the hun “alegedly” brought the game into disrepute according to bbc scotland tonight, already trying to obfuscate the issues, they were not appealing the decision, they were appealing the punishment.
