On signing from domestic rivals

816

There are limits to how far we can recruit from our domestic market and continue to prosper.  Martin O’Neill preferred to sign players his teams had faced, which meant Hibs and St Johnstone being plundered, eventually leading to decline.  Gordon Strachan enjoyed watching Hibs all his life; it showed in his Celtic signings.

Rumour has it when Jock Stein signed Willie Wallace from Hearts in 1966 his timing was determined by the need to deny a rival Wallace’ signature.  Neil Lennon should find it easy to compete with the likes of Derby County, if he is motivated to do so.

Enjoy the fantastic clips of Willie Wallace below from the 1960s.  You’ll have seen many before but the clip of him beating three Celtic defenders before scoring was new to me.  It might have been the goal which convinced Jock to move.

A Jock idea to keep the Hoops unbroken by putting the numbers on the pants?

He was a marvel Jock, he really was. There is something truly special about the Hoops.

    oglach,

You seem to be mixing up goals per game with games per goal.

From the games played and goals scored figures that you provided the goals per game stats would be:

    Hooper: 0.70 goals per game

    Stokes: 0.53 goals per game

Both very good returns and it has to be said that Stokes has provided the assist for Hooper for a few of these goals. I would love to see them both stay as they are a very effective pairing up front.

still a great pairing and considering his recent lack of fitness due to injury’s all the more remarkable?

    Been playing catch-up this morning.

If you bought the car through an HP agreement, inform the Finance Co. about the problem, and tell them that you are withholding payment until either the faut is rectified, or the car returned.

Not so sure what your rights are if you paid cash, but the vehicle must be of “merchantable quality” commensurate with age and mileage, i.e., the younger and lower mileage the car is, the higher the expectation level should be.

Good luck, and let me know how you got on.
