O’Neills’ achievements

888

Delighted for Martin O’Neill on taking Ireland into the last 16 of the Euros. Since his salad days ended at Celtic, Martin’s had more downs than ups as a manager. I felt the game had moved on from him, even during his five years at Celtic, the game tactically moved away from him, but he’s one of a number of managers of small nations who have overachieved.

I’m not buying Roy Keane’s tears, though. Reaching the last 16 of the Euros is a great achievement, but he disparaged Mick McCarthy’s achievement with Ireland in going out of the 2002 World Cup in the last 16 to Spain on penalties.  Maybe it’s time for some humility from Roy.

If anything, Michael O’Neill’s achievements with the north has been even greater. Michael was mentioned as a possible Celtic manager before Brendan’s appointment, but the point was made to me, whatever he achieved in qualifying, he could be embarrassed in all three Euros games. Now he needs to beat Wales for a place in the quarter finals.

The group stages have been a delight. Some big tactical lessons for underdogs, and for teams who face 10 men behind the ball every week. If you don’t make defensive mistakes you can win any game, possession and territorial advantage is a mirage of influence.

Dude, basically my comment is above @ 10:03.

The Scottish Thing was terrible for even CQN, never mind any other platform used by Celts and Non Celts.

It is a no goer anyway when that price of oil is likely to stay where it is…… For Years.

  3. I see the level of political debate on CQN has risen to its customary level of utter mince, amidst the predictable displays of mutual ego-massaging.

  4. Wee Alex saying that as Scottish voters were in the “remain ” majority, Scotland should be able to stay.

    Bless!

  5. Are there any informed thoughts on what the implications of the limits on movement of labour are for Celtic?

Any restrictions on the numbers of eu based players are bound to have an instant effect on the standard of our team compared to those in the eu. The overall standard of Scottish club football will drop and the advantage we have over other teams in the spl that we enjoy because of finances will decrease

    Or am I panicking unnecessarily?

Some clubs in Scotland have anticipated the referendum result and invested heavily in the pensions and retirement fund industry, shoring up a host of players that may be potentially affected by the freedom of movement and labour within the EU

Tragical History tour I would imagine.

  19. BMCUWP you have a very low opinion on the ability of Scots to provide their own economy. Do you think that The livelihood of Scotland is dependent on Westmonster bankers. Scotland has strong real economy. Hydro electric , forestry, more single malts than New Zealand dairy industry, tourism, agriculture, fisheries. Do we rely on the Etonians Bank of England or the other way round. Scotland has more natural advantages than Norway, Denmark or Sweden. No reason we could not be another Northern economy, if we wanted. Damn sure we could pay out old peoples pensions and educate our young. Scotland voted to stay in a United Kingdom that was part of a United Europe. Now that has changed it us not unreasonable to ask the question what Union do Scots want to be part of. What have the better togethers to fear if they are confident nothing has changed. I recall a few nasty anti Scottish comments from Boris the animal.

  20. Bobby as we can see lies wil be told to convince Scotland to go independent. After all Farage has already said the old build a new hospital every day thing was wrong (didn’t take him long)
